I personally thought this episode was pretty bad. What basically happened is: They got free, opened the lab and entered it. The end.
I still want to see how they will close the giant door, as it is now open and the gas will enter the lab....

How have you gotten this far into One Piece if you didn't at least somewhat enjoy this episode :/ and you forgot to mention the fact that 4 of the super rookies are probably going to form an alliance (well 3 if you include Kid/Killer together)

Lol. poor Law...You can tell he doesn't like the way the SHs work.
Yeah, that's rather to be expected. Anyone would be surprised how far they got given Luffy's randomness and derping.
rebelakuma said: The power of boobs! Haha. Now, how the hell can they close the shutter? Epic and funny episode though.
Law can easily fix it with his ability. And I still don't understand why that green dragon cannot fly...and what the heck was Caesar Clown trying to do with that cart and apples..
There's two kinds of people you can't win an argument against:
One - Too dumb to tell right from wrong.
Two - Too stubborn to admit they are wrong.
Unfortunately Trafalgar Law hasn't learned the first time that Luffy has his way of dong things. >_< Meanwhile the other supernovas discussing possible alliance means it getting harder to survive all by yourself in the New World alone. ^_^

I was concerned about the opened part of the shutter as well but yeah Law might do something about it. I think the other apple that turned into something was a Devil Fruit, right?
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

well anything can sound bad if you generalize and leave out all the other information..
did a lot happen? no
was it presented well? yes
as far as the door goes, like others said, law could possibly fix it with his ability, others could barricade it, or it just wont be closed - zoro being zoro probably cut before thinking again.

I wanna see how they will do this too, but i think that the episode could have more action... I think that OP could extend to 40 minutes... 20 minutes it's to quick, and shows just little things important... But i like the episode... 4 of 5

If they extend to 40 minutes, the episode will reach the manga in two months, and we gonna have fillers for more than one year (exactly what happens with naruto: 15 fillers, 5 episodes, 15 fillers, bla bla bla...)

Yeah I'm with you on that, Robin is one of my favorite characters. I was so pissed when I saw her time-skip look. Out of all the things to change, he got rid of her sexy bangs. Damn it, oh well she still looks sexy as hell.
This episode was better than the last 10 or so, but its still a 4/5 because of the incredibly slow pacing. Why the hell are they still doing 1 chapter per episode there's enough of a gap between manga/anime for them to not do this. If they need to pad the anime then add a short filler at the end of the arc. I'd prefer something along the the lines of G8 arc instead of this incredibly slow pacing we have been getting since Marineford.

Oda probably doesn't want to insert fillers soon, but the problem is that he is inserting fillers at the arc episodes, which is the biggest shit someone can do. I hate to say that, but Naruto is the kind of fighting shounen that does the best thing: It is better to watch 10 breathtaking episodes and them go for 20 fillers, them watching 50 slow paced episodes with both fillers and content.

I'm not 100% sure but I think Oda has nothing to do with the production of the anime. Its all Toei, so Toei is the one fucking it up. At least its not as bad as the Toriko anime which is unbarable. That said, they wouldn't have to add as much filler as Naruto, I think Studio Perriot overdoes it the put too much padding. One Piece had excellent pacing back during Skypiea/Water7 they only started adding slower pacing and filler mid Ennies Lobby. What they use to do before is add 20 episode filler arcs in between arcs. Which in my opinion works much better than 1 chapter per episode, which dilutes the main content of the series. I don't think Toei is going to change, but It be nice if they went back to that way of releasing episodes.

You are right that Oda has little do to with the Anime. The only thing he does is answer some questions they have and say which Devil Fruits to use. He also goes drinking with the Voice Cast. He is much more involved in the recent movies tough.
It seems you saw Skypia not weekly. Skypia had quite a few 1 Chapter 1 Epsiode Episodes. After Skypia they did a filler arc, inserted filler into a cannon arc and making it painful to watch, did another filler arc after it, brough foxy back for more filler and then moved on to Water 7 with good pace. Tough as they reached Enies Lobby they had to fight with the pacing again, making flashback Episodes and alternative reality shows and going with mostly 1.5 chapter pacing. Then they did another filler arc and then they went with 1.5 chapter pacing during Thriller Park. In the next arc they switched to 1 chapter pace again and never left.
Just got to wonder, if Trav changed all the sea-stone chains with regular chains in case he got caught. How is it that only he got a chain that didn't have seastone yet Smoky, Luffy and Robin did get seastone chains.

I've been looking for a post with these words since I started reading the thread. It still doesn't make sense to me.
But yibis' translation mentions that all the chains were replaced using normal ones (I wish I knew enough Japanese to differentiate singular and plural forms). But even if that were to happen, how could Smoker (Or Tashigi in Smoker's body) not escape by turning into smoke when Law was being mighty to thm after having unchained himself? Or how did Luffy not realize that he wasn't feeling weaker with the chains on?
Been trying to come up with reasonable explanations but just can't :(
Luffy will survive everything somehow, but how he does it is what is the most entertaining.
Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.
It's kind of sad how Luffy and everyone else is like" yay! We're all here!" when Chopper's off hiding in a closet by himself with a bunch of terrible people on the other side of the door. Poor raccoon's been forgotten ):

This was honestly an incredible episode from the very beginning, starting with that great title card. Having Luffy, Law, and Smoker- pirate, warlord, and vice admiral- beside each other looking that good could only be rivaled by the end of the episode when they were seen opening the shutter with the Luffy Moukou playing.
To speak broadly, I would like to compare this part to Fishman Island. Although there were aspects to Fishman Island which I loved, a big contender for why it was one of my least favourite arcs in the end was that the villains and the supporting cast never resonated with me. Conceptually I’m in love with Hordy, his goons were enjoyable, but in the end I do think they are all largely forgettable. For the supporting cast, of course I love seeing Hachi and Jimbei above all else, although I do wish that we had seen more from them(honourable mention to the wonderful flashbacks too). But when it came to Shirahoshi, the princes, King Neptune, Caribou, Decken and anyone I may be forgetting, they were functional but not much beyond that in my eyes.
To contrast that with Punk Hazard, the sheer chaos all of these different parties, nearly all of which I adore coming together is all I could ask for!! From the three main neutral forces colliding as Law, Smoker, Luffy, from the supporting characters that joined them through their shared battles in Brownbeard and Kin’emon and the relationships they’ve formed! From Doflamingo’s fascinating inclusion, and the mystery behind Monet and Vergo and their ties to Law and Smoker... I adore every single one of these forces at play, and episodes like this one show the amount of beautiful chaos that is involved with having so many strong and self-guiding characters that are all interesting in themselves colliding and culminating in this meeting at the laboratory. I'm sure if I haven't already I will go into specifically why I like all of them outside of this paragraph, and if not now, later.
To start with specific discussion on this episode, it started with something I did not expect. A look at some of the other supernovas that make up the worst generation, Kid, Killer, Apoo, and Hawkins, of which are trying to form an alliance. This scene was already a blast, with the Dracula-esque castle that Kid's staying in, and Kid and Killer's distinct looks, but the second they opened that door it got wonderful. Killer and Kid honestly remind me of Crocodile and Daz, Killer in this context being a stoic and loyal follower of an ambitious, cruel and stubborn captain. All of which made for Killer yelling about them forming an alliance as Kid was trying to kill Apoo and Hawkins was leaving pure comedy. Where would Kid be without Killer? This scene also brought up a fascinating concept! Law and Luffy have already made an alliance, this means that three supernova’s are working together on that side, Zoro, Luffy, and Law. Over here, we have an alliance of four, Kid, Killer, Hawkins, and Apoo. The worst generation, some of the most powerful rookies around are creating alliances, this means that we have some serious potential for some crazy gang wars. With both Law and Kid doing this at the same time, I wonder if they have similar intentions. It's great to see everyone again, and as a yakuza lover I always appreciate intricate systems of alliance.
After that, we had the cage scene, one that I need to break up into two sections to talk about. But before the main points, I want to mention a small point about Franky. Franky is incredibly hard to lock down, they put him inside of an iron room and he radical beams the doors open. They chain him up? Well, since he is not a power user he does not have their weaknesses, and therefore he can still use all of his mechanisms while tied up.
Now onto the dynamic of Law and the group he has surrounded himself with. I had already been sold on Law’s relationship with the Straw Hats but this totally sold me on it even further. Law shows just how careful and precise he is, expecting he may be caught one day he replaces the chains with normal ones so that he will still be able to activate his power. In contrast to Luffy’s spontaneity, Law plays the long game, and to go further with that point, he has Franky set the flames below them to be used as a smoke screen! And how do they respond? Luffy completely not in the same wavelength of seriousness dances with happiness and jumps out of the cage risking being seen and ruining the smoke screen to begin with, Law freaks out and Luffy’s allies simply tell Law that's how Luffy is with a smile on their face! Franky calls him young man numerous times, and ends up farting through the sky back to the ship. To make an analogy, it feels as though Law is babysitting some kids, and he is trying to make sure that they go to bed on time and do their homework and all they do is refuse him and act absolutely insane as Law attempts not to strangle them because he needs them, this is his job!! It’s absolutely wonderful to see Law having no control whatsoever over this group of people, they are polar opposites.
The other section that I loved in this scene was between Smoker and Tashigi! Law did his usual scary schtick and made it clear that he may have to kill them. Smoker, stubborn in his ways, says that it's better to die than to work with Law, as if he is focused on the principles of justice rather than the consequences! And Tashigi called him out on that, with great reason she asks what good will it do to die here, that will mean that G-5 dies, those kids probably don't go home, and Vergo gets away with everything. This is great because normally Tashigi gets guidance from Smoker, Smoker is the leader here. To see her influence Smoker and lead him into the right direction made for one of the most memorable moments of their relationship. And right after that we had more of Law’s precision to account for everything in his plans as he gave Smoker a chilling condition for his own survival. Law’s brutality and cold perfectionism make me realize just why people think he’s so hot, lol… He reminds me of one of my favorite characters from Shinjuku Swan, Mako, just not as soulless. The more I see of Law, the more I think of him as one fantastic captain, and speaking of that, I wonder what happened to his crew...
After that great multifaceted scene, we had a fantastic and natural merging of Usopp and Zoro’s groups coming together. Every cut we have to Zoro’s group running from the gas has me break out into laughter. The insanity of Sanji’s love of Nami causing his super speed and a nosebleed while they are expecting to die was glorious and in one moment everyone jumps onto Brownbeard’s back and the dragon even tags along too. Poor Brownbeard had everyone basking in the joy that he was in so much pain he got a speed upgrade!!! This was pretty great too because it led to Zoro and Kin’emon both using their Wano blades to slice through the shutter that no one could dent for so long in one brief instance. It was a strong ending!! Everyone got through this in their own ways and it was so much fun…
Tashigi's reaction towards how Smoker conducted himself in her body was definitely understandable lmao
They didn't show Trafalgar's reaction to what just happened but I can almost see how shocked he was at seeing Luffy's friends cutting down the one shutter that will prevent the gas from getting in and petrifying all of them lmao
when Tashigi became herself again, hot ^_^
Sanji-Nami the auto-erotic savior!!
Smoker : .... why am I doing this with this guys?
cause you're a bro Smoker, a BRO!
sword kino man sword kino
Law still somehow surprised that Luffy doesn't sit still for shit :P Just a good thing he only swapped out his chains. Robin may have realised and gone with it, but Luffy and possibly even Tashigi in Smoker's body would have given the game away themoment they realised it wasn't sea prism.
While futile, the G5 crew would've had a lot more time if they hadn't spent the lat few episodes staying in the same locaiton as the gas got close banging on a door Caesar was obviously never going to open for them. Just lucky that they were let in by Law and the others. One question I do have though is with all the close call running from the gas...how is Franky just able to get all the way back to the burning side without being caught and no one bats an eye?
Now as cool as that teamup entrance was......they now need to stop cheering and run through to the next indoor shutter and that entire room is now exposed thanks to Zoro and Kinemon :P
So kid is forming an alliance. I’d love a kid alliance vs a Luffy/Law alliance and fight. Split the worst generation in half.
Though law might be regretting working with Luffy lol.
Loved the shot of Luffy, Law, and Smooker. I have no idea how this vice admiral and Caesar will be able to fight those 3. Such a cool alliance. Law and smoker are definitely top 5 non straw hats. I’d say those 2, Hawkeye, Shanks, and Whitebeard are my favorite. (Maybe replace dragon with Whitebeard since Whitebeard is dead).
