This episode felt surprisingly normal and relaxed (at most times) even though next episode is the finale.. hmm, that kind of curious me to check next episode how this show going to make closure.

Someone there really knew how to set the mood. I loved the whole "passing of the year festival". The show had very relaxed pacing up to this point, but I have a bad feeling about the finale being rushed.

I like the nuts, it's like Valentine but in snowing season :P
You're giving to the one you love and respect

Reki was forgiven, she shouldn't burden herself anyway
No one really blame it on her (except Midori)
Goodbye to Reki.. soon :(

I really like how the Abandoned Factory Haibane play into things. They're an alternative to the feminine quaintness of Old Home and its peaceful teatimes. They live in a gritty factory, there's a lot of boys, they're rowdy, they have bad manners sometimes, etc. etc. It avoids venerating the atmosphere in Old Home too much, as if kindness between people that a theme of the series required that sort of thing.

Wow, okay, I actually cried. Just a little bit, but still. Between the soundtrack, the fireworks, the meaning behind them, Reki's reaction, and Midori crying...That was too much at once, it got me in 2 seconds. Well I already was starting to get a bit emotional when there was this montage of the Haibane giving the bells to all the characters we've met, so it was to be expected.
Now while I still have some slight issues with this show I definitely see what makes people praise it, I'm considering adding it to my favorites after I watch the last episode.

What an interesting episode.

Some mysteries have been solved. I now know what happened between Reki, Midori and Hyouko, and to some extent the meaning of the pillars has been revealed. I had the realization that they were some sort of tombstones or altars, like in those stories where the sould is imbued into an object.

Anyway, there are some other mysteries that are yet unsolved. Who are the Toga? What's the role of the nimbuses? Why was the wall built in the first place? Who are the Haibane? Why do they have wings? What's the Day of Flight? Etcétera.

Even if I have more questions than answers, I must say I've enjoyed this series. This episode was very good.

There's only one episode remaining.

So, did Reki give Midori a nut offscreen (I doubt it), or was that white nut not only for Hyoko but for Midori as well? In any case, pretty sad, Hyoko basically said goodbye without even seeing Reki with those fireworks (I don't think they were the ones used to "greet" Rakka by the way).

The tradition of handing out those bell nuts feels very similar to Christmas. Not speaking when handing them out almost feels like yet another restriction, but it's harmless and framed positively as a token of the passing of the year; I can feel the appreciation for it. That said, I don't think "Involved Nut" is the best name ever, for a few reasons.

Can they solve all the mistery in just one episode. We still don't know anything about the outside world and Haibane.

The way Hyohko and Midori scrambled to prepare a final farewell gift for Reki despite their reservations with her as soon as they realized she wouldn't be here for long hits hard in a very specific way. Must've been a complicated feeling to receive her bell nut.

Speaking of bell nuts, that little montage of the haibanes handing them out to their friends in town was freakin heartwarming

What a nice reconciliation. :)

The thing about Rakka's name related to nuts, very symbolic.
