The synopsis and artwork would lead you to believe it's a some sort of fantasy adventure or magical girl-esque show, but in truth it's a school comedy which happens to be set in a fantasy world academy, with some non-human student characters thrown in. There's no overarching plot, except that all the students want to graduate. You could even argue for Parody or Gag Humor; many episodes are send-ups of other fiction tropes, e.g. prison escapes, robots with emotions, athletic training montages, etc (one episode parodies both A Hard Day's Night and Flashdance, complete with the actual songs by The Beatles and Irene Cara, not soundalikes). And in every case, they're played for laughs. MAL is strangely staunch about all entries in a franchise having the same tags, but that would be a mistake in this case. Sunshine is a school comedy first and foremost, with fantasy elements and anthro characters. Regarding Shoujo: I think demographic tags are reserved for stuff that is adapted from a manga targeted toward that demographic. If so, then this is an original anime with no manga (as are most of the Jewelpet entries). |
