If I were to marry a Japanese woman and have kids with her then yeah, as long as the name isn't too off the beaten path. Other than that case, it would all depend.

I've always likes unique sounding names, so I wouldn't be opposed to it. It just has to be done tastefully. A middle name would be more probable than a first name.

Though my friend and I were joking about naming all our kids after FMA characters, and mixing characters names around as first and middle names. It was rather painfull ^^ Kimbly, Rose or Maes, Mustang the worst was probably Barry, Hohenheim... lol ouch!

I probably would, but just the nickname. Like, Maria is a fairly common name here and nicknaming her "Mai" doesn't scream blatant anime fan.

pets... why not? No one'll care. My dog is named Shana XD

I wouldn't make it a blatant Japanese name unless my wife/girlfriend was Japanese or something like that, but I like the idea of using subtle anime and game references, like using the name Marisa (from Touhou) when it's actually a semi-common name anyway.

Don't think so...because if i did...when the child grows up and asks you how you come up with my name i'll be like...from that anime:D! the kid would be like omg...and dislike it too.

This is a funny yet interesting post :)

Personally I feel the same way a lot of you do about naming. Naming a child is FAR more different then naming a pet. Too me, it's OK to name your pet a Japanese name because they really don't mind and it's pretty much only you that has to live with it, for example, Akane, Kagome, Migumi, even Sesshomaru.

But I would "dub" my child with a Western-inspired anime name if I was given a choose like Edward (FMA), Faye (Cowboy Bebop), or Victoria (Seras Victoria from Hellsing) then keep the origins of their name my little secret :P

*Don't forget kids are cruel, so why torture your child?*

I think it depends on where you live.If i would live in Germany,I think it would be no problem to name my child Alphonse and call him Al.But it would be a problem to name him Hinamori for example.I guess it just depends on where you live.In my country,Maria is one of the most common names for kids.

An anime character? No. But I have always had plans to name one of my sons Mojo Jojo (as in...evil genius monkey from Powerpuff Girls)

Now all I need is someone to make babies with in the first place...D:

Sure I would :P Whats wrong with childeren called Edward & Alphonse?

But seriously, my parents gave me an arabic/islamic name but I'm a Dutch Christian ;) (well, I call myself Voron, a Polisch name) So why shouldn't I give my kids not a name I would like, such as Ichigo. Sounds good ^_^

I would name him Tomoya, let his mother die, get into a fight with him, screw his arm and treat him as a friend instead of a son.

After that he will be thankful.
After all, he will get a harem as reward. Not bad huh?

It really depends on the actually name; if it sounds to foreign and doesn't fit well with the last name then no I wouldn't name child so, but I see no problem as long you don't tell your child the truth about the origin of the name

My initials are ERR, yah know, that thing that comes up on screen when it can't process something and screws up (as in a shortened version of error)?

You bet it was on purpose :P The first name came from some waitress in Europe that my dad liked...

Would I knowingly name my kid after an anime character (assuming there were no other ties)? No. Nor would I name my kid Jeff or Rachel so that they fit in. I would find a name that I like, maybe there will be a connection to some form of entertainment that I liked, and maybe not.

My dog's name is Ewok xD
edit: Not the poodle in avatar (that's Casey, my sister named her after a teddy bear), the Aussie in my profile is Ewok. His registered name is Samilyn's Chief Chirpa.

I wouldn't name an un-japanese child a japanese name, it dosn't seem right.
Although I'll probably be adopting a Japanese or asian child anyway since I don't plan to have my own~ xD

But if a good name fitted them then i would consider it! :)

Try naming you son name as Alucard
What people will think about this name ????

I wish I'd been given a badass name like that.

I'd like to have two daughters and name them Eve and Shana. Not sure what I'll do if I have a son though.

But either way, all of my kids are getting game or anime names.

I think you'll change your opinion once you get older. Personally I think you'd regret giving your children a name from a cartoon/game/anime... and your wife will more than likely want to share a part in naming your child.
And it might be just me, but I don't think many people would appreciate being named Dracula backwards s:.

If I were to even consider naming my child after an anime character, it would only be Shana from Shakugan no Shana... it is a nice name with a unique ring. It is doubtful that I ever would do so though.

Actually this is a weird thing i was always planning on naming my childern

Girls - Cherise
( after s-CRY-ed's [Scheris] I just dont like the way they spelled it so i spell it like i do Cherise)

or

Seiya
( Black Cat I really like this name cause its a Unique name with a nice ring to it.)

or

Shana
(One of my friends were actually named this and then i found out that it is on an anime shakugan no shana and i figured hey why not it works well in the American Society and its Japenese sounding at the same time.)

Boys - Vaughn
( after various anime like Escaflowne and such.)

or

Train
(I really like the sound of this name im not sure how well it'd work in the American Society but I figured it wouldnt be all that bad.)

or

I was thinking about Light but It probably will sound weird in the American Society.

or

NOTHING cause i wont have anymore kids than just that. lol.

Belink.

I don't see why not, since asian people are often given western names? Not to stereotypalise anyone, but I've met plenty of Chinese Susans and other things. Eeeh...

Shizuru is a nice name, as is Suzumi, and I've already decided that my first daughter will inherit her aunt's first name as her own second name- Saaya.

As long as the name, as a whole, flows... well- there shouldn't really be a problem, right?

No offence to the people who would name there child after anime char

But those kids who names are a little difrent wil get bullied alot.
Even more if they ever find out where the name came from.

And you'll get older you forget about the anime or you find an anime where the name of the main char is better. Stuff like that

but please do not name you kid after an anime char
