This is the first anime i enjoyed watching after my father died. Getting some heals from watching natsume book of friends made me return to animes i guess. I simply love this kind of animes that makes you speechless and think about how beautiful it is written, detailed drawn.

Kyoani <3 I can't be mad at the director for changing the solo result because kyoani made this source so beautiful. Without kyoani this could be a forgotten anime like 3rd class school anime however they give an awesome effort to it.

I don't think i will see another school music anime which can top hibike in terms of drawing and direction for at least 5 years.

I watched this season for my friend who loves this anime and quit watching animes in general. It was so beautiful like you wished it to be my friend <3

Let me give some advice for the ones who love this anime. You need to watch aria francise (aria the animation is the first season of it) asap. It is very similar to hibike however it contains more slice of life elements, calmer atmosphere and gondola instead of music in hibike.

I am so confused. A very unsatisfying ending. To me this feels like a loss for Kumiko. I wanted to see at least some Romance in the end since it was a side plot for the whole series. Did Shuuichi and Kumiko end up together?

So many questions. Why was kumiko backstabbed like this? This made Reina look like a total hypocrite in the end and kind of ruined the character for me completely

I heard that they did not stay true to the source material. How did the story play out in the original?

You know it really feels like a finale when people are about to graduate, they’re talking about the future and whatnot. Moreover, always saying it really is the “last time” :( At the very least, being a series around music, they finally reserved some time for actual “music” through that nationals performance lol. Must say, those flashbacks reminiscing their journey… all of these characters right from the first season was a nice touch. If not gold after this performance, this journey in its entirety wouldn’t have made sense… SO A GOLD! Genuinely glad for them(>﹏<)(>﹏<)

This season has been such a drama fest though, all emotions aside. I still could not make sense out of this whole, “making Mayu in somewhat relevant piece of character out of fucking nowhere”, but yeah, it’s the reason why this season doesn’t have it what the first two season had(not counting the movie.. that sucked lol). Reina had her share of being irritating too, before someone forgets. But yeah, in their own way they kind of stated that Kumiko indeed got “her ending” despite not making the spotlight. In a way, I’m glad this ended. KyoAni should focus on their other incomplete works or new works altogether… we all would want that I mean.

Timeskip Kumiko/10
@Softhenic03 So great to see someone sharing my view on the ending. This show compared to first 2 seasons was neither rewarding nor easygoing drama. Even though it had the best growth arc it was still too much dependent on Kumiko giving up on everything she wanted in first two seasons except doing best for others, cause she is too kind for her own good. But it still did not match with the flow and style of first 2 seasons and stayed too far away from the music and passion and showed ua just drama for most of the episodes.
It had so much condescending, drama, arrogance, crying and gloomy feeling and just to make it worse by not rewarding Kumiko in the end showcasing she cannot become special like Reina which can be achieved even without making her lose cause she had already come to face with reality till then and wanted not to try to run after Reina to become special. I think Novel does not end like this and Kumiko did played with Reina. That's why I am also confused that how come an experienced player who even their sensei can't ignore can be showed to be struggling so much and then make this all about her growth as accepting things she can't do. I clearly don't see this pattern in first 2 seasons. Her growth in those 2 seasons were very complicated and coincidental. But suddenly she is no longer Cinderalla of her own story and she has to accept that. I mean I would have actually accepted this ending only if first 2 seasons did not made her to be special with how lucky and good she was. And it reminds me again that she is one of the most kind characters in whole story, who hurts herself more than others, probably due to what happened with her sister and in middle school.
I am sure follwing the original source ending would have shown her growth in the same way as this does. I mean you changed the whole show for 2 best episodes. I really can't watch season 3 again due to how gloomy and shallow it is and I know that the main character won't be rewarded for her efforts just for the sake of "realistic growth" that people think is true. She did go to nationals and won gold with Reina before, so she always had talent. There's no way she was as pathetic as her audition showed her to be. She might not be genius but she is talented and has done hard work, though her circumstances was not as good as Reina but when they showed how she is not able to make sound without remembering how to focus on her fingers it felt the Anime will show how she will stop focusing on them start playing freely like Asuza and Kumo does. I mean there is not point if the growth from first 2 seasons is just ignored and undermined by 3rd season as superficial, with her giving up on all of her desires. If that's reality then why first two seasons made the story revolve around her as if she was Cinderalla. Clearly this is not the same Sound Euphorium that I was watching even if you say it is drama, it still does not change the fact that it did not stayed true to it's initial emotions and showed us a different reality as if this is a spin off. I mean ending is so well done but changing her climax does not deserve to called growth material when you already showed 11 depressing episodes undermining her talent. No way I can accept that author of this story wanted to end the show like this. I am sure Anime authors were not the same or they forced author to change the ending for Anime.

@Luke_MK Original source did not hinted but we know her childhood friend has always waited for her still gets angry angry for her when she stopped dating. It's open ending but Anime shows the hairclip that teacher Kumiko has, which means they are now finally dating. It is true love afterall it does not mean you need to do romance to keep loving each other. At leaat Kumiko does not seems to have phycial desires in romance. She tries to act like adult who don't care much about love and focus on one thing.
Yeah, original souce rewarded Kumiko, Anime took away her reward to show superficial growth that gave the best episode but it did not stayed true to it's plot and as I think undermines the growth from first 2 seasons.

@Luke_MK Clearly you are right. Season 1 and especially season 2 was the best one out here in my view cause it stayed true to story and plot and gave us a very well deserved growth. Season 3 only undermined all of that and showed us "realistic growth" that in my view does not match with the first 2 seasons.
With how much we were showed that Kumiko had to suffer and stay sad for whole 11 episodes they did not reward her and Anime took that chance to make it one single best emotional episode, while crushing all of the effort done in first 2 seasons. While the ending was good and well made the non rewarding part of this show towards main character feels a bit off after watching 2 seasons that made me think - why I never heard about this Anime before. It's old. But season 3 took away that feeling to - I can never watch it again now that I know how mismatched climax was compared to the previous storyline.
Anime does show hairclip in Kumiko's file after becoming teacher. Even though original source kept the ending open, Anime gave us good ending atleast making her teacher. But sadly Anime depended too much on Kumiko agreeing with everything that Anime writers wants. Clearly that does not show her real self. She was supposed to be real but became too kind as of that result. Ignoring all taunts, forgiving friends even without of them saying sorry, feeling sad or angry but never showing the bad side, giving up on dream to become special like Reina.
I mean rather than this gloomy piece that Anime gives in last 3 episdoes(excluding end credits) I would really prefer the open ending which Original souce gives where Kumiko is rewarded for her efforts. Anime really showed Kumiko as untalented person in 3rd season. I mean I come across many comments and many viewers say that Kumiko does not deserved the soli part and it's realism. Only cause Anime does show her soli part audition doing mistakes. No one would complain. But that is not how this would end. She is experienced player who competed in a good school before and has won auditions many times. I think people thinking someone better than her came who can win audition even without trying cause she can make no mistakes is more unrealistic than it could be.

To me second season was really the best. Kumiko and Asuza relation and Kumiko finding her voice rather than staying away from problems she can she, including making up with her sister and finding her real side , i.e. love for Euphonium was the best one.
Even though season 1 where Kumiko was going with the flow but made a good relation with Reina was best but it can't match the bond and growth she got from season 2.
Sadly season 3 lacks that part. Season 3 only showed how to get her down from the top and then leave her to her kindself.
Good for 1-2 episodes that made people emotional but not good for the previous story. Cause she never freely expressed her emotions to others in season 3 all the emotions were hidden behind her kindness and those emotions only made me as a viewer feel pity and sad for her.
Clearly, if that was the goal of the Anime it should have been made clear from the first season. Rather it kept at making Kumiko run towards being special. She already decided herself that she cannot attain the peakness like Reina but never once it was hinted that she is worse or not good even after she tried something. Rather it was hinted that she was trying to find a way to play Eupho freely, but that part was crushed with dull and problematic season 3 where she never really made a good relation with either her juniors and especially Mayu. It was a bother to see her making those statements for whole season and only to find out even though she is as good as Kumiko she can always do better, plus it was hinted that Kumiko was the one giving her motive to play indirectly.
Compared to Reina and Maya audition where we knew Reina was good because of her family circumstances and hard work, and she was way better than others, but here with Kumiko and Mayu where sensei and others hinted they were almost as good as other, and Kumiko main issue is the uncertain feelings and mistakes that she keeps on doing rather than not being giod at playing solo, so this was forced and rewardless growth . I don't see any reality in this even if it was drama it cleary was decision someone made on a whim because a transfer student who can play better even without asking joins in 3rd year and she plays only Eupho, and will certainly take Kumiko's solo if she joins the club, if this is the kind of reality viewers think is real than that drama tag is nonsense, it should be tagged as real. Plus even though Natsuki was an easy target we knew the never junior was actually better that her. Even she did not keep up with Kumiko. But a transfer student keeps on winning with her newfound motivations and Kumiko becames helpless and kind main character who has grown up and stops trying to become special.
Even original does not did that. Cleary not sure how an experienced player who won gold with Reina before can't do better. Anime also made her Eupho audition with mistakes. I think even if Anime didn't wanted Kumiko to win I would be fine even if Reina becomes selfish to play with Kumiko. Winning gold even after that would be much more better and worth watching. Not that gloomy face Kumiko keeps making the whole season 3, including the last episode. Even teacher Kumiko can't help me get out of how much frustrated I feel. Great job at making us feel frustrated but bad job at losing the whole plot for 2 good episodes that I will not watch again. I hope I never remember this Anime and even if I do I will never watch season 3 drama that depends too much on main character kindness.

I kinda started to like this show in the first season. Sadly the music and performances are boring. Compare them to kono oto tomare where the performances really hook you and are so damn great.
But i especialy liked the connection between kumiko and reina.

I really felt like they would be a great couple.

I dont care for the fact, that they are both girls btw, i just felt like their relationship was great and way too intimate for just friends.

In the end it all went for senseless drama and kumiko being together with the boring dude. I also really didnt like reinas character development.

I really think that this show is rated too high..

What a magnificent performance. I'm so impressed that Kumiko managed to lead her club to winning gold at the Nationals. She was a great club president. Still sad that she didn't get to play the solo though, but it was all for the better maybe...

Seeing Kumiko in the epilogue as a teacher at her old high school (or just an advisor for the orchestra club? idk) makes me so so happy!

Yeah, this was a great season. I think I did prefer how KyoAni took 26 episodes to explore an entire schoolyear instead of doing just 13 for their last schoolyear, but I did like how the pacing felt a bit higher this time around. There was hardly any drama focussing on side characters, and it was really Kumiko that got to shine now. I really loved that. The season was great, but I still felt Naoko Yamada's absence tbh...

Still, Kyoto Animation, you guys are amazing and Hibike Euphonium is another great addition to an already impressive filmography. I'm so glad I got to experience this, and also experience the show actually ending. Hell yeah. Amazing stuff.

I love this show so much, but it's also made me frustated because Kumiko keep losing on her 3rd years and lost her spot for the final duet with Reina. I can't describe it that much with words, but i just love this series. Thanks for the all staff that worked on this series, also i hope KyoAni will give us another great animes in the future!

Also, KITAUJI FAITO! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

We finally made it. We got the gold!

It's funny how Kumiko didn't want anything to do with the concert band at the beginning of the series, but ended up as the teacher advisor for the concert band in the school.

Episode felt rushed (a 40 min ep would have been better).

Cons are that we didn't get to listen to a full Scherzando perfomance and they re-used old footage during Hitotose no Uta performance, such a shame.
Anyway I liked how things went after. They finally won gold and looks like everyone is doing fine! But I really want to know what happened with Mayu, Taki and Kanade.

Also I would like to watch an OVA about Kumiko as a teacher and that new euph girl someday. Please KyoAni, do it!

9/10 for the episode (-1 for Asuka no-show); 8/10 for the season.

My main criticism for S3 is the pacing and the lack of actual music. Reina being a jerk for a few episodes was another minus. The Mayu aspect was a plus over-all, I liked the character and she did provide the main drama thread for the season afterall. Her winning the final solo part was a good twist giving some meat to Kumiko's character development.

Nice emotional wrap-up; even with the Asuka no-show it was the best episode. If they'd gotten Asuka in there somehow I'd given the episode a 10/10 but it is what it is.

Rating the whole franchise:

S1 8/10
S2 9/10
Liz 9/10
Chikai 8/10
S3 8/10

All-in-all a very good run which has provided many epic and unforgettable scenes and in the end that's what I'm ever really hoping for from any franchise. And for that I have to thank Kyoanni and the voice actors/actresses for delivering just that.

@8oomer Kumiko turned out to be one of the best anime characters

Absolutely masterpiece of a show and franchise. Kyoani did amazing...old and new Kyoani. I had faith the newer staff at Kyoani would live up to the expectations but the really did excel. Did I expect Kitauji to win? Of course... the main character always wins in the end but the lessons learned along the way are the important part. They were beautifully expressed to the viewer. A lot of important things were said and I hope everyone watching has learned something from this franchise. I rewatched the scene where Kumiko chose her career path over and over trying to figure out if I missed what it was, but this episode finally revealed it. She just loves the school and band so much. That was something I didn't expect but it makes complete sense when looking at her character. Kumiko is as beautiful as ever, both inside and out.

I hope this series will be passed to do newer anime fans. I know that's unlikely because most people only watch newer anime, but I think Hibike! Euphonium has everything needed to be a "timeless classic". Force your kids to watch this someday.

10/10 for the season, and the franchise.
@Kougeru Kumiko deserves all the love and respect. She became such a great human being. The things she have been through, the things she did for others. She deserved all the success she got. I wish I could see more of her.

“don’t cry because its over, be happy that it happened.” This is the perfect quote to summarize my emotions right now, after years of happiness, pain, regrets, and everything in between, it’s finally over. Shit man, I’m holding back so many tears rn, to call this show a masterpiece is an understatement. I absolutely LOVED time skip kumiko, I always predicted that she would become a teacher, Kitauji is too special for her to let go just yet, and i cant blame her. This is easily my favorite anime series of all time, the life lessons it has taught me has changed me for life, and i cant thank this show enough. I really hope that this isn’t the end (although it most likely is) I would still love a spin-off with kumiko’s new life. But if this is the end, to all the staff and people who worked on this project, thank you, for creating this life changing masterpiece.

For the last time, Kitauji Fighto!!!
