"It's your fault that our lives went off track!"

Kikuhiko just rejected Miyokichi because he simply had the right to, he didn't force her to get laid with Sukeroku. And nobody forced Sukeroku to play a knight in shining armor and follow her, trying desperately to fit the role of a perfect husband for which he most likely wasn't meant.

Geez, how I hate those characters (and those people) who blame others for their own decisions.

Absolutely agree with everything you've said. Myokichi is a horrible character

So this is how it ends...

If only Kikuhiko had stayed with Miyokichi, it would've been a very different series ;-;

So this is what happened... I didn't see that coming. This turned out to be even more tragic than I expected.
Kiku, Sukeroku and Miyokichi all are heartbreaking characters.
Sukeroku tried to dedicate his whole life to make others happy, and this ended up killing him. He's a quite fascinating depiction of a genuinely kind-hearted but flawed person who ruins himself but would literally do anything for those he loves. I really loved his character, even more so with this episode. It's so sad to see how he died.
As for Miyokichi, I must admit I've never come to know if I like her or not as a person, but as a character, she's pretty great. A broken woman who can't get over the loss of the man she loves, goes with another one out of despair, ends up hating him AND hating their children... In the end she really was a toxic influence, but she's also a character I feel for. She never had the chance to be truly happy.
And, Kiku... Poor guy. He dedicated his whole life to his own rakugo, isolating himself from everyone in the process due to being convinced that he's better off alone, only to lose his loved ones for good right when he was coming to realize how wrong he was. He's such a great character as well, I love him too.
When I think about it, it might explain why he took he decided to teach Yotarou (that was his name, right ?) in the first episode, there's a part of him that probably wishes for redemption.

That was a beautiful episode, but also such a tragic one.

Sukeroku doing a FULL PERFORMANCE was such a big death flag. I knew these two were going to die, but forgot how it happened, and watching it again it still hits hard.

The characters are so complex and dynamic, truly. People are hating in Miyokichi, but I think there's so much analysis that can be done with her.
Also the fact that her husband was the only one who knew her real name, speaks alot to their complex relationship. Toxic? Most definitely. But they clung to each other and the dynamic among the three is very interesting.

Ultimately, maybe she did get what she wanted. Revenge on Kiku by removing the two people who meant arguably the most to him.

So that's how Sukeruko died? Even Kikuhiko barely had time to reach for the tramp when she was falling off the railing, yet somehow he ends up catching both of them with the same arm. Sukeroku managed to grab her and fall of the balcony in the same time despite previously being on his knees, despite being in no position to move that quickly.
