It used to be pretty popular in my country, until K-pop started to be so trending in 2016 (BTS and Blackpink era). That's where most of anime fans in my country move to K-pop and never touch anime again.

Japna > China > U.S. > Europe > the rest

That's pretty much it really.

In terms of legal distribution, China is behind USA and Europe though

They dubbed that too.

They've been dubbing Anime into Italian at a mass scale since the early-mid 1970s.

Very true I was there :P (I won't tell you my age though :P)

Don't really understand how can that be the case lol because these two are different forms of media(idk if im being inaccurate but you get what I mean) , looks like they werent real fans, they watched it only to be trendy. It would make sense if they had migrated from jpop to kpop or anime to TV series.

Bilibili is a legal anime distribution website, and it's bigger than western legal distribution anime website like Crunchyroll by a whole landscape. (Netflix counts too but the number of anime they have is quite scarce actually)

And let's face it, SO MANY Americans/ Europeans watch anime on platform that's not legal too because it's so easy to access to those. You can't say that Chinese watch it illegally while U.S. doesn't. They do.

Besides the USA or east Asia I'd say Germany has a lot of anime fans

Pretty sure France is the 2nd manga market in the world after Japan so it has to have a positive influence on the anime popularity there too.

I meant mostly dvd/bd distribution and manga. Piracy of offline media in China is still on a bigger scale than the others. After all, majority of English subs come straight from Chinese.

Japanese creators target mainly the Chinese when it comes to piracy.

I swear Germany has USA beat. They carry manga at shops in the airports. And not just like three titles; a good variety.

Does my airport do that? NO!! D:<

lol

I think America and Asia mostly, don’t know about Europe, maybe France... There a lot of anime’s conventions around the world, but I guess the one in America and Asia got the most attendees... (It’s just what I think, I didn’t saw how many people attend convention but I have heard a lot)

It's actually very popular here in Alaska! People here cosplay like Waterbenders on the Southpole every day even if there are no conventions in sight. I sometimes would cosplay as Olivier Armstrong during night time because of the anime spirit here is well and alive.

When it comes to manga, Germany is definitely better.I've read more titles on German and couldn't find most of them on English.I never saw manga at airports, but boy you can find manga at every other store, especially in big cities.

I only have access to the 2018 data, but I doubt it's not still relevant.

The two biggest markets after Japan are the USA and South Korea.
After that come Taiwan, France, Canada and China.

When grouped, it's Asia first (by a huge margin), Europe second then North America.
The other markets aren't really worth mentioning.

We Indian anime fans signed a petition asking makoto shinkai to release weathering with you in India and he actually listened and it became the first anime film to get released in the country. So yeah,I would say anime is quite popular in India
