One of studio Ghibli's grittiest and best works, only being let down by a kinda shoehorned romance between the characters.

For me, this story's message of morality reigned strong with me. Ashitaka was pretty much the moral compass of the story, often attempting to bring reason to Eboshi, San, and many others, maintaining his goal of remaining unclouded through his journey.

Often in life, we face distractions and misdirection's that seek to cloud our judgement and our morality, it is up to us to stay true to our being and what we stand for.

While I definitely don't see this as a 10, it was a great journey and story to experience, 8/10

I guess Studio Ghibli can do no wrong. Although they are not my preferred style, it is always a fantastic watch.

What a journey this was, with a lot of really imaginative concepts. I'm impressed with the amount of "gore" as well, some scenes were pretty brutal.

I'm sad that the couple didn't stay together, but I'm happy that the monk survived. He was my favorite character in this movie.

it's a masterpiece for visual quality alone
honestly the forest spirit should have just eliminated everyone and realized this experiment has failed and it needs to be restarted. this also applies IRL

I've just finished watching this and I think it's definitely worth the praise that I've heard about it over the years. Solid 10/10 film.

Good movie, I thought the theme of the show was really good but boy, the execution of it was all over the place for me. I'm definitely not the biggest Ghibli fan, but I think this was probably the best out of the few that I've watched thus far. I loved the atmosphere of the show though, the audiovisual got it right!

I was going to go with a solid 6/10 but then scrolling through the internet give me some fresh insights which is urging me to give a 7/10 here. I knew for sure there was a lot of mythological references and I'm glad I went around to check them out.

I’ve seen Princess Mononoke for like the third time now and I just gotta say this is the most action packed Ghibli so far and the animation was fucking TOP TIER man this shit was just eye candy dawg🔥🔥🔥

The gore scenes are great I especially always love the part when Ashitaka shot the arrow and took off that dudes arm will always and forever shock me everytime I see it, or when he takes off a samurai’s heads off get me too like that shit catches anyone off guard I swear😭

And yo Ashitaka is such a kind ass character man bros not afraid to lay his life on the line and risk his life to save others bros a real one man props to him💯

Don’t forget everybody Ashitaka x San 4 ever ik they ain’t get together but if Ashitaka visits San here and there I’m sure they’ll get together❤️

Anyway overall this was a great movie about nature and how it should be preserved I’m guessing the the irontown is now gonna rebuild but leave nature alone as intended since Eboshi fucked up badly screw that one monk tho but hey at least bro let the spirit god get his head back but I guess now they won’t do that bs anymore💀

Another 10/10 for me, this gotta be up top 3 of Ghibli’s greatest movies man this shit is my childhood ong I remember seeing this as a kid and loving it so yeah 10/10 man🫶🏽🥰

The cleverness in this script isn’t in the basic plot, but rather the nuances. It would be extremely easy for a story like this to pick a side (environment vs progress), and spend the time taking an “us vs them” mentality. However, it doesn’t do that.

The main character is constantly torn between both parties. We learn that while Eboshi is the catalyst for the events because of what she is doing, she is also kind and caring for her own people. San is immediately an extremely likable heroine, but it’s also revealed that she’s done her fair share of killing people as well. Everyone is fighting for the sake of their own ideals, and Ashitaka is the idealist who wants the best for everyone.

Rather than take the easy way out at the end, the film doesn’t try to convince you of a “fairy tale ending” - San and Ashitaka are clearly in love by now and don’t deny it, but their feelings on the previous incidents prevent them from truly being together as a couple, so they end up trying to compromise so that both the remains of her forest and the ironworks can both find a way to live in peace - and perhaps their relationship is a window into the lesson the film was trying to teach all along in the first place.

There is no easy answer, and it’s still a debate going on in modern society. Perhaps if more people looked at both sides rather than just their own, the world could find a better degree of peace. The movie doesn’t pretend to know the correct answer. It asks you to decide.

I'm many years late to the party, but after finally watching this movie, I can say that Princess Mononoke is my favorite Studio Ghibli movie I've watched so far. It felt like a more complete version of Nausicaä. The Iron Town looks stunning 28 years later. 90s artstyle goes so far. The message of finding a balance between human expansion and coexisting with nature is positive without ever being preachy.

FAWWKKK beautiful gorgeous sick ass movie. Reminded me a lot of Zelda in some parts. Incredible incredible joy to watch

Love the action and the choreography of the movements of every character on screen. I liked how they use camera work to show important things far away and I love LOVEEEE UGHHHH the demon/god designs in this. The boar in the beginning and FAWK the Forest Spirit had SICK. ASS. designs. Plus loved the little cute forest buddies a lot

Main character was the goat he was THE goat riding his elk and shooting his bow and arrow GAWD reminds me a lot of Zelda with that. The girl was also the goat and I love them both

Totally totally totally totally adored every part of this visually, besides the character designs, I mean most of the scenery is painted so it might be moot to say but every single shot is like a damn painting bruh. I loved the villages and the forest and by GODDDD I loved the inside of the tree near the beginning JESUS Christ. Every part of this was so sick I kept out loud repeating “this is so fucking sick” that’s how sick it was.

Not my favorite ghibili movie but it really is up there. 2 hours long but went by rather fast. Hell fucking yeah
