Definitely the best fight scene so far.

One thing though.... Excalibur?!?!?! From what I remember, that sword belong to a man, that sword was used by King Arthur... does that mean Saber was King Arthur?!?!

I was thinking that too. Saber also said she was never treated as a girl, so maybe she was king Arthur and was treated like a man and remembered as such. but i could be way off i am just guessing :)

I don't see anything exciting about this fight at all. Just a burst of power and light and that was it. Apparently height is advantageous to Sabre as she doesn't have to bother about scorging the earth - she does care about smthing else after all. Diappointing at most!

Yeah, he's being annoying again... Still, the fight was awesome. Saber is awesome.
Oh and this was so much fun: "Shirou, your color is worse than it was a minute ago!". That scene really made me laugh.

Look up who Rider was in her past life and all the pieces will click together: the pegasus, her being blinded, her not being human as she said, and her being the enemy of humans.

When Ilya was shown I was like "OH F*CK!" but she was just there and didn't do anything... I was on edge.

This show could really use some more fast-paced and smoothly animated sword fights in the vein of Kara no Kyoukai or, in recent memory, the final episode of Katanagatari--rather than "I'm charging my attack............BOOM". If I see anything approaching the level of Shiki vs Araya in KnK 5, I'll be satisfied. Oh well, it was still a pretty cool and loaded episode with a really nice reveal at the end. Perhaps Saber is King Arthur reincarnated as a girl?

Sucks for Rider, she just got freakin nuked T.T

I thought she was called rider because of something else...HEHEHEHEHEHE.....

Just kidding. I guess she can summon mythical beasts lol

Saber + Excalibur = Ownage...but surprise surprise it uses up all of her energy. I wonder how Saber will deal with someone who's much stronger than Rider...like Illya's Hercules (why was she there anyways?)

All in all it was an epic episode.

The only beef I have with this is that Rider yelled out Bellerophon...why would she do that? Bellerophon is the guy who rode the horse, which is named Pegasus. Tsk, tsk. /yeah, no one cares

This is the first episode which I didn't have to smash my head against a brickwall because of Shirou's idiocy. I hope they keep this up.

No one will probably read my correction but Bellerophon is actually a harness, briddle and saddle set used to control Pegasus. It's also good to point out Bellerophon is her actual Noble Phantasm and Pegasus is a summoned Phantasmal Beast that Rider can summon and by using Bellerophon she can increase Pegasus' power. Main reason Rider lost is actually not because Rider is weak but because Excalibur is considered the strongest Noble Phantasm on the world (Ea is stronger but Ea is also not from this world).

As another piece of useless trivia, Rider has 3 Noble Phantasm: Bloodfort Andromeda (the bounded field that consumes everyone inside of it), Bellerophon (the briddle used to boost Pegasus' power) and Breaker Gorgon (her blindfold...yes, her blindfold is a Noble Phantasm that works in the same way Tohno Shiki's glasses work).

Either I misunderstood something or Rider knows who Saber is or maybe they even knew each other?
And so Saber's true identity is more or less revelead.
I find it strange that Shinji yelled "my comand seals are burning" when that book burned. Shouldn' comand seals be on hand? There's something strange about the way he orders Rider. Unline other masters, he's a complete coward.

I don't remember Shirou running towards Saber on the roof in the Visual novel, if I remember correctly she decided to use Excalibur almost as soon as he arrived on the roof and she was actually getting beat up a little bit.

Pretty good episode in any event.

I really liked this episode

the fight between Saber and Rider was Epic! Though i liked Rider and I'm kinda sad that shes dead but it had to happen she was evil. I wonder what her real name was. I liked the pegasus and am wondering why she was blindfolded????

The Saber + Shirou moments were adorable though i still am rooting for him and Rin.

Speaking of Rin... now that their common enemy is extinguished... is she going to turn on Shirou and Saber?? I sure hope not.

Because Rider isn't shit. She's a top tier servant.
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

IF she had her true Master(the one Rider really cares about, not that shit Shinji) then Saber would have some trouble. Also if Rider knew about Excalibur she wouldnt give that much free time to Saber.Actually the way Saber is during Fate route Rider could have won if she had continued hitting her without the final attack.

Well,

Or more like this version takes major liberties with adaptation AND with f/zero stuff so whoever wrote this trainwreck adaptation could not be bothered to correctly address it and felt the need to change shit constantly ("har har, kiritsugu's boat sunk in river, let's make it the sea,har har"), especially considering the statements by this anime staff back then.

Also Saber would not speak about Kiritsugu. she hates Kiritsugu.

Your are forgetting this anime was released years before F/Z and that F/Z screw up to make all connections valid (if you were talking about f/z then pardon me). So far this anime adapts the game pretty good (some minor details were changed, yes, but it manages to keeps the same mood well).

...what?
How did exactly a story written by two people, one of them being the writer of FSN,screw up?
Just animating the events doesnt make it a good adaptation. These minor details is what made FSN VN good in the first place.

She doesnt hate Kiritsugu?Seriously? She was willing to talk with him only when she was mad at him or when she was going into honor mode which is basically the same thing.
The only thing that happened differently in FZ is how

The small tidbits that are in each route should have been adapted as they are not as Deen wanted.
How can you even compare a butchered from the first second adaptation to a later made prequel?

You actually mean later created prequel (2006-2007). And how exacly is this F/SN anime (2006, created even before light novels for F/Z were made) butchered, I wonder? Yes, there are some events that wasn't in original VN Fate route (like Shirou meeting Rider at archery range instead of Shinji's house and some early medling with Sakura route) but I don't mind as long as they tell everything needed. In the time this anime was made they simply didn't know whether they would be doing any sequels or other routes so I don't blame them for revealing some infos from other routes. And I already mentioned this elsewhere but original Fate route is easily 30-40 hours long and this anime have to fit everything into 9 hours so it is clear there has to be some shortcuts, compromises and merges (not to mention that writing in some game parts of Fate route was boring sometimes). But then again I insist that up to this point (ep12-13) they animated every significant scene (if not, please provide an example). And watching this few weaks after completing the game I can say they even managed to retain the same mood. So I guess it all depends on personal preferences.

Fate/Zero (which I think is good otherwise to prevent further misunderstanding) on the other hand wasn't written by Kinoko Nasu, he was only consultant for it and Urobuchi Gen did all the work on this light novel (later made into anime) so it was his work to manage all those loose ends from VN and make them fit. I still think that all newcomers should always follow original release dates and watch Fate/Stay Night first cause F/Z spoils way to many things just in its first ep.

Yes that is what I meant.

They knew, simply because the draft for FZ was ready in 2004.They had supervisors and contact with the original author.THEY should have cared to get their facts straight.

As I said simply animating the events isnt enough. The characters arent there. The problem isnt just adding stuff from other routes, like them fighting Rider or Rin vs Shirou. And the mood DEFINITELY isnt there.Maybe you dont care because you know the chars because of the VN ,that you just finished, but that doesnt make the anime good.

Gen made the work based on FSN,Nasuverse rules and info that Nasu gave him.So no it wasnt 100% Gen.

How is that any different from what I said about Kiritsugu and Saber?loll no.Just like Kiritsugu never listened to her she never listened to him either.

I see where you are going here. In the game you can spend literally hours and hours spanning three routes with each character and this time spent creates unique bond that 24-ep anime simply couldn't get you. And I dare to say that this relationship between player and the world is everything for F/SN. So this anime is great thing to watch for players of the game who knows and still remembers all those characters well (e.g. me) and who wants to see them in action but it can be not so good watch for anime-only viewers who never gets enough time to fully understand and grow some feelings for them. And I guess the mood thing depends solely on personal tastes.
On the other hand - Fate/Zero doesn't have the game yet - and therefore it's much easier to accept it and enjoy everything that anime gives you. In a way I would describe F/SN as more traditional whereas F/Z as more mature in its approach.

The approach has nothing to do with it.
FZ as a novel needs about the same time one route needs to be read.Yet the characterization of the chars is in totally different level than the characterization of the FSN chars in the anime of Fate route(no comment about the movie).FZ has a novel. Why is it so different for you? What is the difference between the game and its routes and a linear novel? There is none, since we are talking about ONE of the routes not all of them combined.
There are a lot not so mature series that managed to make the MC,male or female, likeable and understood. In FSN you could just replace Shirou with Kamijou Touma or even worse Kirito who 1)has nothing in common with Shirou and b)lacks a lot as a char compared to Shirou, and still not miss anything(from what the anime showed).

Blame the shitty adaptation that this is.

Servants generally fight at speeds barely noticeable to normal people. "A low regular" Magus can reach the sound barrier(and "above regular" can break it via haxx) and Servants can move at speeds way above that, even though Saber is relatively on "low level" of speeds(to be compared, FSN Lancer has speeds above hypersonic, to the levels that would allow him easily re-enter earth's atmosphere and Rider is way way way faster).

This is the "seriously low" speed according to Servant standards and its them not even trying to actually do anything(the scene is from the upcoming remake)

An average servant fight like Saber VS Rider lasts short enough time for public to not really matter.
