Shounen-ai is 'Boy's Love'. It focuses more on the romantic feelings and not (so much) on the sex. I don't think 'bromance' (the Western term) includes romantic-sexual feelings. It's more an intense friendship. |

Well, the whole yaoi/shonen-ai thing is quite complicated. I myself prefer to watch/read shonen-ai/yaoi because the average mainstream anime (One Piece, SAO, FateStayHetero etc...) don't appeal to me. Don't get me wrong. They might be great shows of their own right. But they aren't interesting for me. Most yaoi/shonen-ai have a good mixture of comedy, romance and drama. So I get the full package of genres with a shonen-ai ( and butt sex). It's just sugoi! |

(stupid google how could you have not alerted me that SafeSearch at that time has't been turned on because of a recent crash so you reset everything?) I'm a male and I can understand that Bara can be horrifying, actually it's quite possibly the extreme end of Yaoi. Bara tends to have allll kinds of smut involved, mpreg...*coughcumcough* inflation, multi-penetration and all sorts. I do like Bara; only when it's tame and has a hint of romance with no rape-y vibes. |

I agree. Most Bara manga are sick. Especially those with old men, too much muscles and there are even manag where the guys are animals. It's disturbing. I often recommended this magaka and will do it again now: SAKIRA is the mistress of 'borderline-yaoi'. Her characters are more muscular and 'manly' than your average yaoi character but not ugly or Schwarzenegger-like. |

I'm a big fan of bromances myself, but in anime they can leave you wondering if there is more to it (for the fujoshi's of course) which makes me not like it as much. there isn't anything gay about having a best friend.... and we lonely Otaku wish we had friends like that :p |

And they're brother, aren't they? So this phenomenon isn't exclusively an anime thing. And haven't seen Supernatural at all. But I think in this show there are even less hints for 'love' between the protagonists. In anime the relationships between two men are usually more suspicious, I guess. |

That is true.... maybe nerd Fandom in general? And yes they are brothers and in the show there was a book written about them accidentally (don't feel like explaining) and it's a running joke of how the female fans ship them and they have stated "but we're brothers" edit 4got to say the "books" that were written is just in the show, not actual books, my bad |

Bi/Gay/Straight/Asex are useful categories. They let you know if there's sexual potential with this person or another. I'm not a fan of all the new genders people come up with, but sexual orientation is useful. It makes perfect sense for a straight women to enjoy (visually) gay sex. It's the people you're attracted to getting it on. I'm a straight male and I enjoy yuri. |
