The first anime I ever finished (not counting Persona 4: the animation, since I was watching that alongside my play through of the game) was Code Geass, and I know I have a minority opinion when I say this, but I do not think highly of that show anymore. I do not want to ramble on about why that is, since it would take hours to explain, but in essence every time I remember it, I remember how much of the series I tried to like while watching, but ultimately despised as time went on. And I am not trying to attack fans of this series. If you like it, more power to you. Everyone's tastes are different, and I want to be that person who respects other's opinions.

Yep. Just about everything I watched on Toonami over 15 years ago I still think of fondly. And beyond that, I still remember the first anime I saw that wasn't on American TV--Slayers. Ah, Slayers. You will forever remain in my heart. It's been almost 14 years now~

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

I can't say I do... SAO was my first anime, and although I found it amazing at the time (oh god) and for a while after, then I finally started to realise that it actually sucked. So, a no from me.

My first anime was Hamtaro and I do get nostalgic about it, but I can't remember exactly which episodes I watched and I didn't watch too many, just the same ones over and over, but I can't actually remember too much about it. I loved the show as a kid, but I doubt I will ever try to actually complete it (200 of the 300 episodes are only licensed in Italian, so that's a bit of a problem). I fairly recently watched Happy Happy Clover which is fairly similar (adapted from a manga from the same magazine and they're both about cute rodents doing cute things) and honestly I think HHC is the better anime.

My first anime when I was actually getting into anime was SAO which I have given a 4/10 to so I can't exactly say I think fondly of it.

My First anime (at least the one that brought me to the world of anime) is Toradora! And I still like it until now, despite not watching it as much as I used to.

Though, my true first anime will be Doraemon, but it didn't got me to the world of anime.

My first anime was either Death Note or Attack on Titan. Yeah I just got into it.

You never had dbz or something on TV in your childhood?

Some people here on MAL make me feel old. I still remember anime on TV before Toonami like anime on Sci-Fi with stuff like Venus Wars, New Adventures of Gigantor, Vampire Hunter D and Lily Cat.

I guess you don't mean anime from the time all cartoons looked the same ,cause like hell I remember what was first. Thw first anime that was distinguished for me from others was Inuyasha, and it still has a special place in my heart.

First anime was pokemon like a lot of people. I would not watch it today but it has nostalgic value.
First "mature" anime was inuyasha back in the days when it aired on adult swim, tried watching it from the beginning like a year ago but ended up dropping it. I still saw the end of final act though.

If you exclude my random viewings of Pokemon and Yugioh before 2007, then my first anime is Dragon Ball in late 2013, which is my all-time favorite series!

Astro Boy was my very first anime, but I haven't heard or thought about it in years. The first anime that I completed on the other hand, has a special place in my kokoro for making me interested enough to reach within the depths of the medium.

Well, there was this kid's show that airs random anime and one of the anime was called Candy...lol when I think about it now, the anime was just an average soap opera...yeah, Kakashi was in that anime.

Ahh yes, Dragon Ball- my mom would watch it with me when I was a kid and my brother and I would watch DBZ religiously on Toonami after school.

I'll probably rewatch DB again for the nostalgia feels.

I don't remember which one was the first one to be honest. I mean was it pokemon? DB? Voltes V? And others that I can't remember the names of?

They showed a hell of a lot of animes when I was young so I don't remember which one was the actual 'first'

I cringe at some old anime though

Nope, the first anime I've watched was Dragon Ball Z. I don't hate it, but I'm not fond of it anymore either. I can almost not believe just how excited I used to be when I watched those lame fights that spanned over tens of episodes

Yes and no.

Depends. One day I can be like, Wow this was amazing, or I didn't notice that as a Kid.

But than there are moments where you feel like, I need something new, The animation is blurred and pixelated, The audio is echoey and not as great.

But than you will revert back to nostalgia mode and be like wow this is brilliant.

Personally I find some shows age better.

Probably was technically Pokemon on Cartoon Network/Boomerang as a kid.

Actually getting into and watching though was Dragon Ball, friend introduced it to me as a kid.

Pokemon I'm not big on anymore, it's something to watch. I might watch 1st gen someday but not anytime soon. Just to see how things started out.

DB, idk... just kinda seems like a filler to see how Goku grew before DBZ kinda to me now. So I don't really have interest so I skipped it this time around and I'm going DBZ > GT > Super (if dub available by the time I finish).

Inuyasha brought me into anime. I never saw the beginning nor the end, I started somewhere in the middle and ended somewhere near the end of the middle.

Looking back I don't remember too much except for me staying up late to watch it on Toonami so I can't really form an opinion on it. However, a different Rumiko show has made it into my favorites named Maison Ikkoku. Perhaps the look of Inuyasha brought me into liking cel animation more than digital. I remember hating when it showed Inuyasha with updated cel animation.

This isn't literally my first anime (that would have been the first pokemon series when i was around 6/7 - but I won't count that because I didn't even know where was such a thing as "anime" back then, I thought it was just like any other cartoon), but [trigger warning] Attack on Titan was my gateway anime for the wider array of anime as a whole.

I thought it was pretty good, and even now I think AoT is indeed overrated, but it's alright for a binge watch, so my thoughts on it haven't really changed. It was later when I watched Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell that really made me stay into anime.

My first one was Senran Kagura (imagine). I'm sure that it being the first one is the reason why I'm fine with/ don't care so much about fan service and loves all 5 games. It has a soft spot for me, something I probably wouldn't even watch if I had seen a different show now.

I wonder what I would be watching if Death Note was the first I watched....

My first anime was probably Doraemon. I don't think that I love it so I am pretty neutral about it.

The first anime that I thought was really "badass" was Saint Seiya but when I bought the boxset years later, I realised that it was pretty repetitive and not very good. I still think that the design was good, but every encounter could be summed up as follows:

Which I suppose is largely how "power up Shonen" works.. but there were just too few "special attacks" to add diversity I guess.

I technically watched Pokémon and Yu-gi-oh as a kid, but didn't know it was anime because of all the 4kids censorship. I see my true first as Cowboy Bebop, so I had a good start and enjoy it still.

No and yes.

No : technically the first anime I saw but just a little was Maya the Bee, and that was before the term anime was even coined in western languages. The only thing I remembered were the main characters, and a feeling that it probably is not really bad or so.
Recently I watched an episode on youtube, and yeah, it was quite OK, not boring - but it never was anything special to me to begin with.

Yes : The first anime I watched that was announced as anime was Cowboy Bebop (in the German MTV dub), in a special midnight anime presentation on TV, maybe 10-12 years ago.
I still hold it highly, and probably always will.
