Poor Luffy. How miserable he was in this episode. His real self is an innocent child, but he's forced to act out of character. All of Luffy's arguments made sense even though he let his emotions get the better of him. It's understandable because his original personality is a child. Telling Usopp to get out and Luffy's other reactions are the usual things that little children do when fighting with their friends. The main value of this episode is that we can see Luffy's other side.

Damn I wasn't expecting so much drama this episode, I thought I was watching Eastenders xD

Seriously though, the way Luffy initially broke the news to Ussop was so blunt.. just casually saying he wanted a new ship. Of course that was going to upset Ussop. But I guess that was needed in order to create all this drama in the writing. Since this show is all about friendship I really hate to see my nakama fight =/

On a side note: I'm wondering if this Franky guy is key to actually help get the Going Merry fixed?? Just a speculation.

And just what the hell is Robin up to?

What an intense episode! I found both Luffy's and Usopp's perspectives to be understandable. However, I felt like Usopp let his emotions get the better of him, though I kind of saw that coming. I'm interested to see how their fight will unfold. I'm hoping it will deepen the bond between the Straw Hats and possibly lead to some character development for Usopp.

I don’t understand the hate for Usopp. He is completely right here. If you consider going merry as a crew member then Luffy giving up on her is totally out of character. They overcame far more impossible odds for other crew members in the past. Luffy not giving up no matter how things seem impossible is like a signature move.

The argument rises from the fact that going merry isn’t actually human and if it should be abandoned at this impossible scenario. Though she is like a crew member to luffy too, she obviously means so much more to Usopp. Maybe the fact that he feels powerless and merry is one way of contributing to the crew or maybe that merry is a connection to his past/lover.

People saying usopp cares more about merry over crew completely missing the point. Merry is the crew for him. Same could be said for luffy when he didn’t abandon his quest to ring the bell that he cares more about bell than the lifes of his crew mates, but he managed to beat that impossible odd. There are tons of examples like this.

Not sure why so many people are complaining about Usopp's abilities and why he stuck with the ship, they're completely missing the point. Usopp KNOWS that he's the weakest member, in a crew with people that either have Devil fruit powers, are freakishly strong, and/or have some ability that directly benefits the crew (navigator, doctor, cook, etc.). They're in the Grand Line, their foes are also becoming increasingly strong. He gets beat up by the Franky family and loses their money to repair the ship, he is ashamed and doesn't feel strong enough. Not only is the Merry his treasure and his reminder of Kaya. But he's also projecting onto the Merry because he's afraid that, like the weakened ship, Luffy will eventually need to get rid of him to achieve his goals.

the indifference shown to Usopp by the tone deaf brawler captain.
"wow that's some nice assortium of ships...ohh usopp u there!! we are picking a new ship from this catalogue ,sorry i have decided that on my own without confronting mere 7 crew mem's" He is so freaging casual about it.It's like bringing a new navigator out of the blue and requesting Nami to take a secondary role .It's infuriating.
If you had polished your speech then things wouldn't have turned this away.It is the disrespect perceived by Usopp in turn for the Going Mary is why he had to leave.
The whole spectacle started off with the so called Captain monkey branching whenever his instincts clicked in and inadequacy to judge the merit of a situation even after being robbed once.
What a travesty ,goddammit .

This escalated quick and I did not expect this in a 1000 years. This is really the first division in the crew or someone challenging Luffy authority. I know Usopp loves the ship, but he did seem to go little overboard. Luffy making a wise decision in my opinion. As great of inventor as Usopp is. He not a trained shipwright.

Either way great episode and character development for Luffy and Usopp. My anxiety and emotions were off the roof with this one. I have no idea how the next episode will play out

I dont get Luffy, it feels out of place for him to hurt his friends in a fit of anger and more so when Usopp if hurt and burdened with guilt.

God all I can say is that it was a masterpiece of an episode. I really wasn’t expecting this tonal shift in this arc I really wasn’t. With Water 7 so far I’ve noticed is just the air of uncertainly, the fact that whether the shipwrights can be trusted or not, the disappearance of Nico Robin with the CP9 guy earlier on, what Franky’s and his goons deal is and now it’s just come to a head with Luffy and Usopp, two friends that we have known since the early days of East Blue are basically now fighting amongst themselves and in a very explosive and realistic way as well. On one hand both sides present good arguments on the other hand it’s very heart wrenching to witness I mean I was probably feeling the same way as Sanji, Nami and Chopper during that whole scene and I don’t think we’ve ever had a time where one of the crew members of the Going Merry actually had a problem with Luffy’s decisions as captain and quite honestly considering how Usopp has a bit of an inferior complex about how he views himself towards the others, I feel like this sort of view has been festering for quite a while and man did he lose his cool here.

While I agree that the both of them had good points, I feel Luffy maybe should have been a bit more tactful about how he was presented with this information and Usopp on the other hand while he’s mad because let’s face it, the Going Merry is about the only thing he has to remind him of his island and Kaya and everyone he’s left behind and has legit reasons to get upset with Luffy, I feel he was a little overblown with how to process the situation. And yet I was still feeling like a wreck during this. The sense of helplessness as the others apart from Zorro all plead for him to either calm down or just come back after Usopp storms out of the quarters was just hard to watch for me. Even poor Chopper was crying his heart out about the situation, the poor thing.

And now Luffy and Usopp are going to fight each other. This arc is certainly going in places I didn’t think was possible. A spectacular episode is all I can say and very emotional as well. Probably the most serious and intense that One Piece has ever been so far for me. Man this was an emotional episode and a lot to process for me.

Some people say this show drags too much, but I would like to point out that one of the best episodes consisted of two of the main characters arguing over a broken boat.
