This is the first time I've cried watching an anime.

And like @flaxman85 said a long time ago, it was so predictable, and yet...

In most cases, the MAL Average Scores don't mean anything, here is a question: were the works made before 2000 all shit?
Why are they so damn scarce in the Top 50? Think about how MAL is quite literally a filtered amount of the Anime fanbase.

Here's a timeline of the Top 15 in which you can check that, almost always, the scores are affected by the freshness, popularity and other factors that have nothing to do with quality.

Damn why they playing with our emotions, ignoring the episode title I actually felt relief seeing Honda stand up like nothing happened... but seeing Goro try to wake up his dad and also what he said to Gibson was just pure depression

The situation makes little sense if you think about it:
1) Gibson was angry at everyone since he wasn't playing well so Honda was convenient hit since we need a plot device, if it was a random player probably we wouldn't care.
2) Honda, the old man and Shigeno were conveniently idiots, it was a HUGE hit on the head, they must have brought him immediately to the hospital during that day. They share the blame too. In fact, how is he still playing after that? Even if he feels good, nobody stopped him.
3) Goro not seeing anything wrong with his dad lying on the floor in a strang position for several minutes didn't help either. Also, I dislike how conveniently Honda's death happens after saying "goodbye" to his son last night. Could happen at any time but nooo he needs to be with his son for the last time.
4) The author put in so much foreshadowing in episode 5 that the reveal becomes clear long before it was intended especially with Honda and the teacher marriage promise. It was so obvious that something terrible was going to happen.
5) I hope they don't try to redeem Gibson after this episode and less a forced change of his personality, he was introduced as a douchebag, don't even try to forced the writing to care about a douchebag. He should be introduced as a normal person or if the scene really was an accident. It doesn't look like an accident in the first place and it makes his possible redeption much less credible.
6) The overly plucky tragedy boy: Goro looks perfectly fine for the most part even after he realized his dad was dead. Yes, he was crying but I found it weird Goro was more emotional episodes ago, remember when he was begging to those men about his dad's job? He should have MORE emotions here since his father literally died in front of him. Its worse since there's an unnecessarily timeskip where he looks fine as ever. It makes the character look bland and skip potential characterization. Also, his mother died due to a similar thing in the head, now his dad died due to something similar too? He's just a kid ffs. Too Bleak, Stopped Caring.

Finally, I dislike the sudden timeskip of 3 years. the pacing is unnecessarily fast.

I'm actually quite frustrated at the specific way this played out, very clearly done purely for drama purposes and in a way that to me kinda destroys any sense of immersion. There's absolutely zero way you could experience something like that in professional sports and NOT be made to receive medical attention afterwards, no matter how much you assure other people that you're fine. I can't even imagine that he'd be allowed to continue playing past that point, they'd probably halt things immediately. I'm not a big sports watcher but I've literally caught glimpses of players getting taken out of play for less when half-watching various sports while family members do. The death itself, I can envision having happened no matter whether Shiegharu recieved medical attention or not. But specifically having him receive NO medical attention, just to go home and die where Gorou will have to spend time around his dead body and not immediately realize he's dead? No way, man. Just feels like poorly written sympathybait, mechanistically driving forward the story in the most dramatic way possible.

In this episode, I couldn't hold back my tears after Garo was left by his mother and now his father too. Garo truly becomes a strong-willed, independent, and resilient character, matured by the circumstances. I started to understand the main character's personality

And the teacher's potential role as a future partner and mother figure for him. I know it must be incredibly painful and devastating, but thankfully she's willing to care for Garo like a mom, even if he's just a ward, and it's better for both of them.

In just one episode, both of them lost two precious figures, how could I possibly hold back my tears? Of course, it was impossible!

I was kind of ready for something like this to happen but man...

--BIG SPOILERS AHEAD--

----

You've been warned.

The dramatic irony is drawn out JUST right. It hurts. It just freaking HURTS to know what's coming, and it slowly builds up. Goro's dad was a fantastic character and I kinda thought something like this was bound to happen but honestly, I didn't expect it to be this intense.

Bravo. I came here for a baseball show, instead all I caught was feels instead of baseballs. In a good way, mind you.
