I used to buy manga a lot before
Tho I don't need a collection anymore since I'll be moving to another country soon and bringing it along with me would be impossible ^^

I buy official merchandise when I can, I've been thinking about stretching out for a DVD but it's just wayyy too much for me, and then just to leave it on a shelf or drawer. At the very least a figure or plush will do more for me than that!

I use official streams when I can(sometime I'll just play the video without watching it haha)

Because people have been mass-brainwashed into believing they have some moral obligation to support people who entered an industry that is not profitable out of their own free will I guess.

But I guess that corps can readily brainwash and deceive people with advertisement campaign is part of capitalism too eh.

I am still waiting for BluRay to be the defacto term for the home release of videos. THAT is the marker of when DVD surpassed VHS and that will be the marker for when(if) BluRay passes DVD.

There is a limit to how much more crystal clear video can be, no matter how much storage capacity a disc has it is a waste just for video.

I don't see that coming into mainstream for 8-10 years. It's going to cost beyond a fortune, also what movie would need that much storage, I can only see this good for is primetime shows and anime. However it would be good for Video games especially if DLC becomes more widespread.

Now that I have a full-time job, I've started buying more manga. I dislike reading scans, so I'm quite happy to buy the books. Though I won't buy just anything, unless I know that it's in my tastes or if it's a series that I've begun reading online and know it's worth the investment. I would love to buy my favourite anime on DVD/Blu-Ray, but that's not possible at the moment. When it is, I will.

True that tho it'll still cost me a lot. And I'll most likely have to pay a huge tax ^^
Besides, I still think that HQ scanlations look better on my 19" monitor than on a small book XD

Since I started watching anime, I've bought a decent amount. I also put in an order for 28 volumes of a series.

I also try to borrow series from my local library if possible, but the selection isn't amazing, so I end up reading online, and watching TV series online as well.

WOW, now I would like to ask you a question...

I mean this in all sincerity and not to poke fun, just out of curiosity, why would you buy dvds of something you could easily download for free and sometimes for the same quality if not better??

I mean you could always download it and burn it on a blank DVD...

Simple, i didnt know i could torrent back than. But even if i did, the computer i had at that time wouldnt have been able to run (or store) the files anyway. (and i'd feel guilty if i got everything i watch for free and not give any support to the people that make/released them)

I try my best to support the industry, but from what I've read the business model in the anime industry in Japan (target few people and make them pay a lot) needs to change in order for it to become stabilised. I really don't know anything about it though, that's just my thoughts about it.

I buy DVDs when I have money, but I barely watch them and simply have them to support the companies (however small) and to be able to rewatch them in the future. I just dislike that the quality of the DVDs you purchase are much worse than fansubs most of the time - the subs are ugly and the translation lacks spice. For example translating Nakama in One Piece to friends, which isn't one hundred percent accurate. I would definitely buy more if they became better - they should be at least as good as fansubs.

Still, I do try my best to support the industry - I buy anime that I like and will probably rewatch in the future. On another note.. I really think copyright laws needs a reform. It's just insane as it is now, it should be milder to people.

Me, I don't re-watch anything , so I would rather borrow.

But, I think there is not many stuff in Poland anyway, so I watch it online.

I download only when I have to.

I hate it when video in mkv stops i nthe midle or cannot be player.

or other stuff like "real player could nto play the content".

why you people download anime?

I takes time, and after you have downloaded it...

Trust me, with a little basic knowledge (maybe some perseverance) and pretty much any non-archaic computer and internet connection, you could set up your PC to play anime like nuts. One can find anything on the internet nowadays so easily it's ridiculous. So if that's your reason for supporting the anime industry, meh.

Where I live even getting a credit card that works online is not so commonplace, not to mention actually hoping to find a manga/anime store nearby. Meaning any attempts to try to act like a decent (westernized) otaku would be unfruitful and pathetic.

However if the situation wasn't like that, buying those nice DVDs and anime figurines in a sane fashion would probably be something I would do instead of what I'm doing now. Why? Well first of all, whether I make a difference as an individual or not is irrelevant - the legal way simply feels nicer compared to googling shady websites, it just makes me feel like I'm dirtying up my computer, and I don't like it when my personal belongings are filthy (in any way). Another plus is that in this way I would be able (at least that's what I think) to "control" my spare time more efficiently by restricting myself of the endless sea of illegal content and eliminating the process of searching for it; this in my opinion is why so many people nowadays find it hard to somehow balance out their everyday lives with these quasi-chores, there's simply too much fun out there to be had at the click of a button. Nice shelves and the pleasure of really owning something are worth noting.

Perhaps I'm just way too OCD and overthinking it but that's the way I am. Although I don't have an enviable social life or career (yet) and spend a lot of time on useless PC-based self-entertainment, I don't like giving up and letting my leisure time go down the drain in an uncontrolled fashion.

EDIT: Too many typos to correct. -_-; How was all this relevant? Eh, I guess I was trying to explain the benefits of not acting the way most of us do. :=]

Nobody buys porn these days especially since it's a shady business and buyers often get targeted for ID theft. Plus many of the stars are slutty whores, honestly would you want to date or marry a porn star.

I've heard that the european box of FMA has some REALLY bad subs. "I'm hungry" is supposed to have been changed to "Sand everywhere". And when Al says "Nii-san", the subs says "Edward". That's... really bad and doesn't encourage you to buy it. I remember having some issues with the Samurai Champloo-box too.

I spend a lot of money on anime and manga, more than I should. It's impossible to walk into my bedroom without seeing some kind of anime/manga related character good. I think I'm trying to get as much out of my money as I can before I have to act responsibly. I go to conventions two or three times a year and spend way too much money at those. I still read manga and watch anime online though, I need some way to waste time at school while the teachers think I'm doing work...
