No. Current era is stagnant and can barely be credited with any creative innovation or artistic bravura. I cannot even draw bold distinctions between 2014 and 2024 productions, for example, aside from the resolution they come with. Sure, I give props as to how the industry grew exponentially as a healthy business but Sequential Art isn't about profitability. It's about storytelling density, engaging the sense of sight and hearing of the spectator in the most smartly evocative way possible. Back in the 2000s, studios were still experimenting with new tools they had at disposal. The advent of digital era was exciting to see. Currently, I am watching "Mononoke" and it was an animated experience with unique visual flair, characteristic of this era. Same went for titles like "Redline" or "Gankutsuou".

I've not watched nearly enough anime from the 2000s and 2020s, to make a judgement call like that.
Let me ask you instead, has an anime powerful enough to usher in a new era come out. Like SAO in 2012 and SNK in 2013 did?

Honestly, I think it’s a mix. On one hand, since 2020, anime has reached new heights with amazing animation, diverse stories, and global accessibility thanks to streaming. There’s definitely a lot of fresh talent and creativity coming out.
On the other hand, some might argue it’s not a full “golden era” because the market feels oversaturated, and not all shows maintain consistent quality. Plus, some classics from earlier decades still hold a special place that’s hard to beat.
So yeah, while there’s a lot to be excited about, it’s also important to keep perspective on both the strengths and the challenges anime faces today.

The golden era is already gone, buddy. :<
@Serafos yeah, i gotta agree//

that time was already gone. but the period is debatable.

some say it was the 80's
i say its the 2000's
some would argue about the isekai boom? ( absolute fools, but sadly... its true )

I'm gonna say absolutely not T^T

I get that every anime era has it's greats and it's generic seasonals that will be forgotten in a year or two... but the generic stuff of the 2020s just looks so much more generic than that of the 2010s and earlier ๐Ÿ’€ it's like we've gone from generic anime looking like people copying a fashion trend to downright clones

The golden era/age of anime was from the start of 2002 till the end of 2016. These 15 years is what brought in more new fans to the medium than any other era before and after.

We had Toonami/Cartoon Network in 2001-2003 bringing in an English-speaking audience in the West.

We then entered the era were every household now has a computer with internet, and with more pirate sites now easily available online and no longer needing them to download via sharing programs, and with more animes now being available though YouTube as well (in a pirate way that is) starting around 2005

The rise of KissAnime and Crunchyroll, and with the rise of YouTube reaction videos to anime episodes starting around 2014.

The vast majority of anime fans today (June 2025) started to become anime fans during this era of 2002-to-2016

Starting in 2017, is when I started to see a decline in anime interest. If I had to make an educated guess, its because now everyone has a smartphone, and since then, the attention span of most people is now fried. So now people can barely sit through a 20-minutes-episode of anime for 3-6 months (10-to-30 episodes)

Qualitatively speaking, the golden era from animes was 2000's

Quantitatively speaking, was 2010's.

Even the golden era (to us) of 2000's anime, or the golden era (to our parents/grandparents) of 70's anime will never compare to even non-golden era of, say, arthouse cinema. Anime is not a "serious" medium, it's like expecting J.K. Rowling to discuss existentialism in Harry Potter books. I say, embrace it and give us more seksi-materia .
You're going down, punk...

Personally I feel that the well has one dry for the most part, though you do occasionally get some serious that find a way to do things differently. It's hard to reinvent the wheel.

First of all how do you define golden era? Media sale? Cultural impact? Anime yearly profit? Quality(kinda subjective so I don't agree on this metric)?Quantity being produced?

Who even watches animes made in the 2020s? They are mostly lousy. Watch some shows from the 2010s or earlier. For good entertainment.

Well since this isn’t the olympics who cares what era of anime fights for second place. The 80’s-90’s are obviously the Platinum era of anime imo. I’m sure that most if not all will disagree but that’s okay.

With the amount of anime coming out every season, it would seem to me at least that current anime is about quantity and not quality.
