Why do people always say that sub is better? And hate dub watchers so often?

I recognize the same JP VA's all the time, but since I don't speak Japanese it ultimately makes no difference, it's a silly comparison.

I do too but not nearly as often. i havent watched a dub in forever so maybe there are new and talented voices out there..
sub is just my preference. i like to watch seasonals so watching subs just became the norm and eventually preferred. i even stream a lot of english movies and shows with subtitles because i am so used to reading as i watch
however, some dubs i really enjoyed over the subs like fmab and ghost stories lol
we all just wanna watch anime so which ever way you wanna do it, do it

It's a matter of preference. I prefer the original Japanese for the simple fact that they put more emotion in their voices (due to better and longer training since, you know, they have schools for voice acting in Japan that are JUST for voice acting) it's just a lyrical quality that English dubs lack. English dub are just... flat. There is little to no emotion in the voices or... a theatrical quality that just sounds ridiculous and doesn't fit the characters. Again, it really comes down to preference. I have nothing against people who like dubs and don't know why people make a big deal of it either way. Someone liking dub over sub isn't going to effect you in any way just as someone liking sub over dub isn't going to effect you in any way if you like the opposite. I admit, that I do prefer dub in Black Clover (because Asta's Japanese VA is soooooooo damn annoying that it's the only way to watch it without dropping it because it's nails on the chalkboard painful to watch it in Japanese) and the dub for Ghost Stories is also superior to the Japanese dub. I also have only watched Ouran High School Host Club in dub, as well lol. So some series do have decent dubs imo. I just generally prefer Japanese over English due to the lyrical quality of Japanese.

Norbert Gastell (german voiceactor of Homper Simpson 1989-2015 RIP)
Once said in an interview: In response to the congratulations that the German version of The Simpsons is more real, more alive than the original: "The German "dub" is not better or worse: The original dub is the original dub. The End".

I find Japanese in the openings very nice, but watching a whole series with subtitles only is very very tiring, so I enjoy it when it's dubbed. But often the "localization" can be bad in the first place.

Vision of Escaflowne for example. One of the first anime I ever watched is unbearable in English I think. Or also the eng. dub of Digimon Adventure. Horrible. Like many anime from the late 90's and early 2000's.
That's why I actually still buy anime, because there I can switch between German, English or Japanese if I want to.

Simple. The original dub is the original. Same goes when watching an English TV show: if you want to experience the original work, you watch it in the original language.
I'm Italian, I enjoy Italian dub quite a bit and sometimes I prefer it to the japanese dub; the English one though, sounds weird to my ears and almost cringey (anime wise, while in TV series and movies it's on the same level).
Best series of all time? Gormiti of course

The reason why I personally first shifted from dubs to subs was because I started to recognize voice actors from one anime in another anime... it made my viewing experience pretty weird because it feels like the same person on screen with a different character design.

Sub however didn't have this problem, all jp voice actors made their characters feel unique, and this might be because of their experience & talent.

Dubs probably evolved from this phase of funimation reusing the same VAs constantly, but when I switched to sub there would be no turning back. Once I got used to subs, they just sounded better than dubs. Also subs are avaliable much faster than dubs, that was my main reason originally.

I think the dub hate is stupid it's all a matter of preference, for Hellsing I watch dub for kill la kill I watch sub.
The biggest benefit to watching sub is it uses the original script which in most cases is better.
But as for as the performance's go if don't speak Japanese how can tell which is better? because anything in Japanese is going to sound good to you.
OK, but the Kill la Kill dub is genuinely great, just for the record.
It probably is admittedly I haven't heard the entire cast, but I tried it and quickly switched back because i preferred the Japanese voice for senketsu, thats not necessarily saying the english actor gave a bad performance but I didn't like the voice they came up with for him.

I mean I believe that 99.9% of all dubs don't come close to the quality of the original VA's. They suck at portraying emotion and feeling natural, but why would you hate people that watch dub? You watch the way you wanna watch lul.

Watching anything in their original language is always better, not just anime. At least this is how I look at it. And I don't hate dub watchers. It's only until recent years that I know people are actually making a fuss over sub and dub, as in, a real arguing.

Honestly, it is not something worth to be fighting over. I mean, I do stand by my opinion that sub is always better but only to this extend. The other party are free to watch in any way they want and I won't have any pointless argument regarding that.

I'm of the opinion that you should just watch what you want. Don't worry about what others think.

But for me, I just can't stand the female VA the give school girls. It really grates me.

People who think Japanese voice acting are inherently better than other languages are cringy weebs.

It completely depends on the voice actors, the best Japanese VA can be as good as the best English VA. But on average, Japanese VA are not as good as English voice actors. I been playing a lot of video games with Japanese dub and most of them don't sound as good as the English version. People only thinks Japanese dubs are good because they don't understand them.

If you're watching anime with western style setting, it's usually better to watch the dub version.

I think people should watch what they want, how they want. That said I prefer sub because I think the (english) dub voices sounds fake and like they're trying to hard.

I think you missed his point entirely. Yes there are stand out people they use way too much but you have variety, far more than dubs.
I may make you feel but I can't make you think.

The original version of an anime will always be better since it has more time and training put into voice acting, however I don't hate dubs and watch quite a few.

Very rarely would there be a high-quality dub better than sub such as FMAB, Fruits basket, mob psycho, etc.
