The police were so stupid that even Tenma came to the same conclusion as Lunge considering that he's a doctor, not a detective. Overall the episode was excellent.

I wasn't expecting lunge (/runge?) to get some cool moments this episode. But for a second, I thought he was actually gonna die but it's not super surprising that he didn't.

So Lunge was suspecting Tenma and Johan are one but I mean there's no way that Tenma is also Johan right?

I don't know why I didn't realise this earlier but detective Lunge is quite the monster himself. If only he wasn't so fixated on Tenma being the culprit and actually investigated Johan, although difficult with all evidence of his existence erased, they would've been much further in the case.

For being an agent, this Lunge dude is astonishingly obtuse. He has taken note of every agonizing detail, other than....the entirety of Tenma's motivation lmao

Yeah, I thought this episode. Who knows... there might be a twist later on.

At this point, Lunge already should know Johan is real. I mean, the criminal psychologist from a couple episodes ago has all the evidence that confirms Johan's existence; there is also Johan's patient record when he was admitted at the hospital as a kid; the deal with General Wolf's whole family being tracked and killed by a person named "Johan"; etc.
Don't get me wrong, I really like Lunge's character but come on, give me some consistency here.

Any decent detective can look for Johan and find traces of his existance. But Runge is so obsessed with the 'feeling' that he did not even bothered to.. If he was a great detective, he would see the innocence of Dr. Tenma just like the retired Police..

I thought Runge would be a smart detective but he coudn't even know that Tenma is innocent although that's obvious, he's only obsessed with Tenma and I don't think he really cares whether Tenma is the murderer or not.

Welp, I made the promise 2 episodes ago that I'd drop this if nothing happened between then and now. Fortunately, something did, in fact, happen this episode, but goddamn if it wasn't something that should have transpired ~10 episodes ago.

I've never seen Lunge as being anything other than crooked, so I haven't had the same falling out with his character that many of the other people in this discussion thread have had. Keep in mind that there's been a pretty massive timeskip between the murder of the board of directors and where the story is currently, so I always thought Lunge's obsession with solving the case was driven by his desire to convict the most immediate suspect for the sake of closing it. It was pretty obvious that the conversation he wanted to have with Tenma this episode was just as loaded as the ones he had with Ziebel.

Regardless, I'm relegating this to permanent shelved territory for the time being. I may come back some time in the future because I don't think there's anything here that stands out as being bad - it's just that so much of it is middling and agonisingly meandering. I wanted Johan this episode, not Cringege

Lunge's kind of a dolt. All of his theories are wrong, and honestly they don't even make sense from a criminal psychology POV. I expected more from that creep.

But at the same time, what IF he saved him just to clear his name? There are so many what if scenarios. Hes an accomplished detective so hes probably already sold on his own stupid theory.

That being said, what a freaking retard he is!
bruh he literally thinks tenma has two personalities - johant the serial killer and tenma the nice doctor.....

Finally. The showdown between Tenma and Lunge. That was great.
But I think it would have been better for Tenma to let Lunge die.
Now the hunt of Tenma continues…

Just wanted to comment saying the Japanese VA for one of the reporters at the very beginning of this episode sounds just like voice for Kenpachi in Bleach lol.

Edit: It is him lmao god that voice is so recognizable

Lunge is getting on my nerves. If you're as smart as you say you are, you will notice by now that Tenma isn't the one committing the crimes. Tenma has an alibi for most of the crimes. And why would a serial killer bother to save you—what's not clicking lunge?

oh my gosh, ending song revealed!!

It's like a filler, but I love the detective's character, so I think it wasn't the bad episode, however it's a little bit unnecessary...

This is such a tense episode, when it comes to sheer intellect, Tenma, Johan, and Lunge are worlds apart when compared to the other wannabe genius.

It's for that reason that whenever Johan or Lunge got screen time, the episode is almost guaranteed to be nuts. Such as this ep, Lunge is so obsessed over catching Tenma, he does not care whether Tenma is the killer, he couldn't care less about the truth about the killer, and he's dead set on capturing Tenma at all costs, enough for him to neglect his own family, career, and health.

This episode made me question both Tenma's and Lunge's credibility in terms of their respective opinions of what has unfolded. Tenma, ofc points to Johan's alternate personality as the real culprit of all the killings, whereas Lunge is persistent in believing that the 'Johan' Tenma is talking about is really just himself. Personally, since we've been with Tenma since the beginning, I'd believe Tenma over Lunger but damn the obsessed detective got several somewhat curious hypotheses.

The answer lays ahead in the future eps...

I thought that Lunge is smart, but he is not.. he is full of himself and stupid...
also that part with him being followed by that murderer was so lame... why and how could he even follow him.. then stab him when Tenma was near... too good plot device for me

I hate it when anime/manga that I enjoyed ends, especially when there could be much longer plot and when I love main heroine :P

I wish I had magic glasses that let me see real world in anime colors ;)

I think at this point Lunge really doesn't care who's wrong or right, he just wants Tenma to confess to being a serial killer and not destroy his record. He's someone who doesn't want to admit fault, doesn't accept blame, or isn't satisfied until everyone says he's right. What a perfect psychopath. It would be great if he met Johan, face to face.

How was he ever a good detective if he had such a one-track mind. He's just a stupid narcissist that has overestimated his intelligence.

Lunge's obsession with Temna makes no goddamn sense. Okay let's say he murdered those 3 docs (even though he has an alibi), why would he start murdering old couples after he got away with the 3 initial murder, which he apparently committed to climb the ranks? Tenma had everything he wanted right?!

Lunge couldn't even find any motive or clue as to why Tenma would murder the thief, who he saved after going to a different hospital while off duty! He basically decided Tenma is behind all unsolved murder in Germany, based on an illogical gut feeling and because his ex fiancé said so.

Why not actually look into whether this Johan guy, Tenma supposedly operated on, actually exists?! Just check his bloody operating records ffs! But no, out of nowhere the braindead detective decides Tenma has a split personality. Again, based on no evidence whatsoever.

On top of that, basically everyone who came in contact with Tenma has nothing but good things to say about him and even goes as far as to protect him from the police. But still Lunge's hardon for Tenma doesn't come down. Just think for a bloody second as to why people would do that!

But nah using a completely unrelated case to lure Tenma seemed like a 4D chess move to him. Even then, just ask yourself, why the bloody fuck would Tenma come to a scene of a murder to investigate!

Even after Tenma saves his life, dorktective doesn't even think "Why did he save me? Even though he is a cold blooded killer." Nah, instead he goes: "chasing after a criminal like Tenma is the most fun I could ever have" *facepalm*

Based on these 22 episodes, Lunge is the worst detective in anime. I have seen unnamed background police officers who are smarter than him. Anyone who thinks Lunge is even slightly intelligent, needs to have their head examined.
