Y'know, as a CGDCT enthusiast, I nearly trigger reading the OP due to his choice of words and just wrote a long-ass rage post but deleted all of it after reading some replies because they calmed me down. There were some good counter-arguments, especially against to those who jumped logic "watching CGDCT = lolicon". MAL still has hope I guess.

And OP, like one of the above posts said, you can't deny you're already enjoying CGDCT when you can appreciate Yuru Yuri, Lucky Star, Girls und Panzer, Gabriel Dropout, Endro and the like. You just need to look for more if you truly want to appreciate the genre. You already have a good start. 'Direction' or 'directionless-ness' have nothing to do with it. You're just talking about their themes (kissing, comedy, tanks, RPG). If you're gonna say it like that, even GochiUsa and K-On have their direction/theme too. Like being waitresses in their cafes and music stuff. You just don't enjoy them as much as the rest, that's all. You can't dismiss the entire CGDCT genre just because you didn't enjoy K-On. Like every other genre, CDGCT too, has its own good shows and bad shows. Now I won't say GochiUsa and K-On are bad (they're peak shows for me too) but even I, dropped that Shield Girl and Koisuru Asteroid last season. Also Gakkou Gurashi and I don't think very highly of New Game either. See what I'm getting at? With your line of thinking, inb4 I'll be opening another thread about how people're enjoying such shows.

If this still doesn't satisfy you, read my following blog post I wrote last year in case of something like this. It's originally aimed for total newbies to the genre or ignorant and narrow-minded people who vomit at the sight of a CGDCT show but I think it came in handy for this thread too.

Here's the blog.

I think I kinda get you OP, in the sense that while I don't judge anyone for enjoying cuteness, I also don't really care for cute shows unless they have other appealing elements, like an interesting plot, or the kind of comedy that I like.

Having said that, I don't think that fans of CGDCT would disagree that a boring, unfunny show with moe characters would still be pretty boring to watch. They just seem to have differing tastes when it comes to those other elements, which is alright.

These are my dragons. You can help raise them by clicking on them!

It's just comfy shit to de-stress to. CGDCT isn't one of my favorites but it's still enjoyable.

Well I love cute things . And noting are cuter then anime girls

They are appealing lovely and often very gay . And if the cute lesbians kiss it result in a cuteness overload ,, YEEEEEEES! Imo the are noting better

Its relaxing to watch them having fun . Its your own piece of heaven. Only me and my lesbians. And anime males are NOT allowed in my heaven,,,, In my book cute girls rules this universe with a iron fist and they are the best. Because they are so damn cute

LOL for some reason when I saw your sentence starting with "in my book", I genuinely thought for a moment you had written a book. No word of a lie, if you wrote a book about your love for yuri, I would read every page.

gotta admire that guy's dedication to his internet persona.

I guess it's something you watch when depressed(?). It's very laid-back, relaxing, heartwarming(?), cute. Ahhh but then I remembered Girls Last Tour, it's not bad tho the ending gave a sad feeling to it.

It is interesting to see males so interested in a bunch of girls life considering you cant really relate to all these girl talk in the anime world. It's pretty much the total opposite in the outside world. Males very much prefer watching with the involvement of males. Twitch, sports, tv shows, and movies are great examples of this. I cant think of anything outside of anime that is primary female focused that is extremely popular to males. Excluding porn that is. Imagine if sex in the city is more popular among males for example. Truly a questionable thing but hey, it's the obsession people have with 2d girls so...

"anything outside of anime that is primary female focused" is probably going to have a lot of catty drama, petty rivalries and an emphasis on romantic or purely physical relationships with men. K-On and shows like it are thankfully free of such things and is entirely focused on good, wholesome fun.

It's one of those types of show I had no idea I would enjoy but then I turned out to really enjoy it.

The closest I can get to describing why I enjoyed it would be to call something like Non Non Biyori (in which there's no real plot to speak of, it's just a glimpse at the daily antics of 4 young girls growing up in a rural town in Japan) the digital equivalent of taking a benzo, or a less severe example, just meditating for 30 minutes.

It's just chill, mellow and if you've ever smiled at a kid fumbling their way through a new experience it has that same vibe to it. There's no tension, no risk, no high stakes, no death, no grief and no misery. It's a hard enjoyment to define, at least for me.

You should watch this video. It gives a glimpse at why so great a series Non Non Biyori is:

I've seen the episode. My original post was different on first writing and this is the scene I was thinking of (Ren-chon and the fish).

I guess I was trying to say that the best examples of CGDCT I've seen are when one of those themes I mentioned was kinda discussed or illustrated, but then the show continues and basically says "Yep, life can be harsh, but hey, it's OK. Right now, it's OK."

surely, it's the same appeal as any other iyashikei anime - that is, the viewer wants to relax and cutesy shows with little plot/drama can satisfy that urge. and then some people also probably jerk off to it: people will jerk off to anything these days.

I mean they are just cute and relaxing to watch, like the fact that nothing bad can happen to the characters and theres like nothing to worry or think about.

idk id find it impossible to only watch shows with heavy themes or like stuff happening every ep cos it would become too much and id get reallyyyy burnt out

then I always get more attached to characters from shows like these than any other types of shows for some reason^^
