Maybe Japan's taste is different than the elitists who are active, but Japan's taste is pretty similar to mine.

It always blows my mind that Tiger & Bunny is as popular as it is, and yet never got its much-needed second season.

I mean, it's a good show and all, but it's not THAT good.

Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.

I don't know the rankings and have never checked them. I don't think they do have very different opinions per say, but then not everyone here is from America, England .etc anyway so they can't be put in the same category. If you asked anybody here to create their own rankings, I doubt any of them would match with the overall rankings. The rankings are an average of everybody's opinions, but don't very well represent them.

The Japanese don’t have the same taste as us because they aren’t us. We don’t even have the same taste as each other. I’m black and other black people don’t have the same tastes as me. Even my fellow black MAL users. Everyone has their own taste.

In general though the differences in taste between Japan and the west is likely rooted in tradition, laws and social norms.
