I recently re-read Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, and I realized just how much I'd love to see the characters get animated.

Or, Good Omens, the collaborative effort between Terry Prachett and Neil Gaiman. It'd work. (Especially because Aziraphale = Fai and Crowley = Kurogane. Srsly.)

So, what are some novels you'd like to see adapted into an anime?

1984 would make a rather interesting anime, what with the cyberpunk, forbidden love, totalitarian government and all.

No.

As far as vampires go, they ought to make adoptions of some of Ann Rice's novels.

Most of Franz Kafka books would make some pretty groovy animes, some stuff from Arthur C. Clarke like Childhood's End and The Sentinel might be interesting but they would probably look better as movies.

A bit of updating (because cyberpunk 1984 would be that much cooler) and that would be awesome.

I'd like to see some of the better fantasy series that are just too long for movies, such as the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind or the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

Shorter series would be good too, Riftwar by Feist or particularly the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks, that has incredible fighting in it already, it'd make a fantastic anime.

For a good mind-fuck anime, why not Hyperion, those books were pretty wild.

1984 was already cyberpunk, what with the ever-present two-way viewscreens, eavesdropping bugs, etc. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to apply the same concept to computers and the internet.

I also vote for A Clockworld Orange, that would be quite epic.

Didn't we had a thread like this just a while ago?

Dante's Divine Comedy
Os Lusíadas (and futuristic, plz)
Saramago's books
Rushdie's books (well, why not? :3)
Watership Down (moe-moe anthropomorphism)
Marquez books
Crime and Punishment (and the sexiest psychopat of the Russian literature)

etc.
etc.

I think pretty much all Western books, even when they are crappy, would do awesome anime. Much more awesome than things taken from their idiot Light Novels. But I guess animators and directors are just as ignorant.

Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. It's got alot that would be interesting to see as anime. Comic misunderstandings and misidentification, It's a slightly dark romantic comedy, a character who has to crossdress for a good reason,A subplot of revenge, etc.

Lois Lowry's The Giver

Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451

H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountain of Madness, Call of Cthulhu, etc.

The Princess Bride

This.

Wheel of Time may be cliche but it has all the elements that would make a good anime. I'd also love to see some Terry Pratchett stuff animated.

Plays totally count for this. I want to see Frank Wedekind's Spring Awakening as an anime. In 70s shoujo style.

Alice in Wonderland

Or for something a little stranger, a take on the Christian Bible could prove interesting, especially if done with a more overt Gnostic-type look at the fall of man. Actually, adaptions of most any mythological sources could prove interesting, now that I think about it.
