Nice cooldown episode from last week! Enjoyed Zepile's voice actor in this adaptation and just the character as a whole. The preview for next week looks pretty intense, can't wait.

Zepile's analysis of Gon I found was spot on and is one of the many things that distinguishes him from other shonen protagonists. A lot of the times, they have some self righteous duty to carry out while Gon doesn't care about that and just wants to explore the huge world he lives in and all of its inahabitants

INB4 "This episode is pointless, slow etc" Whenever Togashi introduces something, there's always a reason and the things we learned this week, such as "side stepping" in particular, will play out in the next couple of episodes

Obviously a step back from last episode but then again thats to be expected since not every episode can be that epic; that said tho it was a good episode and next episode looks intense, seems like they are gonna get captured by the PT

I wish they took their time with this part... oh well, it's still fun (not to mention adorable).
Biggest irritant in the ep--> the debating between that random guy that came out of the back of the store seemingly out of nowhere (who was less random in the manga) and zepile(~♥) felt a bit drone-ish/uninteresting, even though that was one of the things I was looking forward to the most. (BGM there did not help a whole lot.)
and is it just me or did Gon and Killua's (identical) dialogue/noises overlap more than usual this episode?
rest was ok, I definitely think I'll get used to Zepile's voice soon.

Not gonna lie, I was disappointed with this episode.

Of course, I'm not saying that I was expecting the same quality as the previous episode, but at the same time, I have a lot of issues with this episode. -__-

The animation, music placement, and pacing was of lower quality than I expected. And the fact that they altered, omitted, and COMBINED certain scenes just to fit everything into one episode bothered me. For instance, when Zephile was arguing with that bald guy...that shouldn't have happened until later, but because they were going for a condensed pace, they combined the scenes together...(I can't help but laugh at this scene everytime I see it now because it just feels so random to me, especially since I know how things were supposed to go...)

Gah, despite the issuses I have with this episode, I can't hate it completely cause one of my favorite Yorknew moments is in the next episode...so props to Madhouse for that...but that's it.

...Oh wait, never mind. The one scene I acually liked was when Zephile was analyzing or appraising Gon's character. Too bad the music didn't quite fit...

I'm disappointed on how madhouse handled this episode because I really enjoyed this part of the manga. Lot's of stuff were rearranged or just cut out completely... but at least Zepile's analysis of Gon was good.

Not that your points aren't valid but did you really want 2 weeks of Zepile? When people were introduced to him in the manga, they had to read 4 weeks of this which while I love Zepile as a character, it kind of dragged on. This episode streamlines and highlighted the best parts of the 4 chapters in the manga while giving Zepile his spotlight and making him look cool still.

It kind of irritates me when people say this episode was bad just because it condenses/rearranges the way it was presented or it didn't follow the manga panel for panel. I find Madhouse's changes different from the 99 cuts/edits because Nippons changes altered how the audience perceived characters/situations while Madhouse's give the same or close message that the manga does

Though I do admit rewatching the episode, Madhouse re-placement of the bald guy felt out of place. Maybe if they clarified more that he was another customer in the store and not some trader in the back of the store.

I liked the music during Zepile's analysis, it added to Zepile's emotion that he was amazed of Gon's character/personality but it might be just me

Any on notice the Yoshihiro Togashi Dog he uses in the manga near the end ?

On the other hand this was a cute episode !
I had always got confused on this part with the manga and 1999,so i kind of liked how it was layed out.
But it did seem odd as well

I guess this is the breather after the intense battle.

Cant wait to see their confrontation to Nobunaga and Machi.
Looks like Gon and Killua will be cornered by Pakunoda and Phinks instead.

Don't really mind the speed up though many good scenes were lost or rushed and seriously anything revolving Leorio is seeming like a no-go as of late, though because of this next week is gonna kick ass... but seriously the bald guy's placement was pretty random... also Takeuchi and Togashi plushies XD

Fun episode to watch, but I probably enjoy this more than the average viewers as I am also a big fan of Pawn Star (An American reality TV show about pawning and appraising unique rare items)
I am concern that the average viewers might be bored out of their mind and hugely disappointed from last week's epic episode.

The Rabbit doll is Naoki Takeuchi, author of Sailor Moon
Dog doll is Togashi, HxH's writer

I'm sad they didn't show Hiei's doll :(

Zepile's VA is Wing's 1999 version VA

They kept the Question-for-question scene, awesome.
The music was great in this episode. The scene with Zepile's monologue was perfect.
Honestly Idk what you guys are bitching about...

For a breather episode, it's definitely a 5/5...I also like the background weather.

Huh, it wasn't bad. I never really thought these were the most interesting chapters so it's good that they're getting it over with quickly, while still getting the best/important parts in. Zepile's appraisal of Gon was sweet. Poor Leorio though, he keeps getting pushed to the side! ono The appraisal guy just walking out the back of the store was a bit jarring though, it did help shorten things I guess.

Hi Togashi! :D

I'm actually really glad this was shortened because next week is gonna be SO AWESOME. ;A;

Well, I learned a lot about the world of appraisals and hoodwinking this week, but other than that not much happened in this episode. It is nice to see them make more money though, slowly but surely. Next week's episode looks really interesting. I wonder how Gon and Killua will fare against Phantom Troupe members? Kurapika sure as hell did well for himself! Hopefully they've improved as well. Next week should be good!

This part was just 1 episode in the original.
Your argument is invalid.

"So from my POV if you're going to complain that this ep was too slow, or “setup” or filler, you’re really missing out on what makes Togashi such a preposterously great writer. I’ll take as many of these intellectual-psychological diversions as he cares to give up – they’re totally unique and capture the magic of H x H every bit as well as the more flashy battle episodes. They're two sides of the same coin, and equally indispensable to what makes H x H what it is.
"

I like what the reviewer from LIA said. It's not just a show about fights, and this episode is no exception :D

Whoever is watching HxH only for the fights is doing something he shouldn't do, HxH is more than that, its main theme is "Adventure", not like other shounen where they have only battles all over the place (e.g. Bleach), that's what make HxH special, its variety.

This episode was so awesome. Killua is so hilarious around Gon, and Gon's innocent curiosity is refreshing for main shonen anime characters. Auctioning has never been anymore interesting than this and Zepile's another cool addition to the cast, like megane-nee-san was (wing). Leorio still feels useless. Was confused on one thing Why cant nen be used to actually see through the objects? Surely it enables like x-ray vision and they can see the contents of the containers? And did Gon really give away his hunter license, how can he still be a hunter?!

For some reason, I'm honestly way more interested in the whole Greed Island plot than this Phantom Troupe. It just seems way more intriguing at this point in time and like they are slowly continuing to build up so much suspense regarding what it truly is. Are we close to getting to that arc?

Around January, it's the next arc. Some people are quite disappointed seeing that it's so different from YS arc I'm surprised you're actually interested in that more, and in a way I am on the same boat :P

And no, nen can not be used like X-rays, Gyo only helps see aura more clearly as it adds more aura to the eye.

Okay, so let's see. The original Hunter x Hunter ended about the time Kurapika killed Uvogin. Which just happened last week in the new Hunter x Hunter. The old Hunter x Hunter had a phantom troupe opening during this, but due to it ending mid arc, when the OVA picked the series back up it got ANOTHER Phanton Troupe opening. The original HxH had two phanton troupe openings. Also, the first HxH OVA was about 8 episodes, correct? Here we are in the 2011 anime and we're basically at the part where the original HxH anime ended and we STILL have this suckish Depature opening. Also, we are only on episode 48! That means 3 whole more episodes before an opening change! With the pace MADHOUSE is adapting, the Phanton Troupe arc should be pretty much complete by then, not to mention MADHOUSE is gonna have to keep the opening for 26 whole episodes, so having a bunch of Phanton Troupe arc stuff in an opening that is no doubt gonna carry over to the Greed Island arc would be pointless! Basically, what i'm saying is this is bullshit! The original HxH got not 1, but TWO Phanton Troupe openings and we only get what? Half of one? Not even a full one? I'm sorry, but as much as i hate the original HxH and love the new HxH this was a very poor choice by MADHOUSE. They shoulda got a band like Nightmare (Death Note opening 1) or something to do the second opening for HxH. If Departure had only been used for the first 26 episodes of HxH, as much as i hate the song, i'd be perfectly okay with it. I mean, when you think about it even the title itself "Departure" fits the Hunter Exam arc of Hunter x Hunter perfectly. Too keep the same opening for the Heavens Arena and Phantom Troupe arcs though? No....just no. Starting at episode 27 MADHOUSE should have got a completely new band and have the first 45 seconds or so of the 2nd opening focus on Heavens Arena stuff and the next 45 seconds focus on Phantom Troupe stuff. Smh, i'm disappointed in you MADHOUSE. Nice choice in Endings, but horrible HORRIBLE choice in Openings. I was also disappointed that Ending 1 had so much animation in it and Ending 2 had a bunch of moving still frames, but it's something i got used too.

The first series ended after 6 episodes from Kurapika vs Uvogin, after that the first 8-episode OVA came out with a new opening. We'll probably get an opening after 2-4 episodes, which means an opening for ~10 episodes of the phantom troupe, the opening will also be for the first half of Greed Island. Long-running anime's openings are normally this way, go check Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, D.Gray-man, Reborn..etc, every single one of them had a new opening every 25 episodes, it won't change in this one. Ok I agree Departure ver.2 was like a troll, but you're arguing about a 2nd opening for the Ryodan and we will get one after a couple of episodes.

I guess i should probably state how i feel about the actual episode itself. For those of you who don't know, i'm new to Hunter x Hunter, so all this is new too me. I tried watching Hunter x Hunter 4 years ago and was bored out of my mind, only made it 5 episodes in. When the remake was announced i figured i'd give it another try since this IS the creator of Yu Yu Hakushos series and Yu Yu Hakusho is one of my favorite shows. Since then, I've become a HUGE fan of HxH. I'm staying away from the manga though, i don't want the anime to be spoiled for me. ANYYYYYYWAY. How is it possible that Hunter x Hunter can have an episode where practically nothing happens and it STILL be epic?! Seriously, i loved this episode. For those of you who think it was slow, I learned along time ago that Hunter x Hunter is not a fighting show. As the shounen junkie i am that's usually what i'm looking for, fights. Hunter x Hunter is so engagging though that it doesn't need battles, but the battles it does have they foreshadow for a looong time which makes you THAT more jizzmatic when the fight actually DOES come. Yes, everytime i see a fight in HxH the thing i'm looking forward too most is the next fight, but all the stuff that happens in between just grabs me for some reason. Idk why, but i personally thought this was a great episode, especially because it was ONLY one episode. Not 2, or 3 or 4 episodes. So, overall i liked the episode. UNBIASED HXH FANS FTW!!!!

maybe I've been reading to many old negative posts about this on another forum, but I assumed the extreme foreshadowing/hype that Togashi puts in before battles made people feel the battles themselves were anticlimactic.

Not a bad episode, although I really hope it matters in the plot. They just left the guy to do everything.., I don't really get the point of this episode yet..
4/5

There was a point to this episode. Most of what they were talking about relates to the characters and the arc...Zepile's appraisal of Gon actually explains a lot about his character...The explainations of welding, hoodwinking ,and side stepping*HINT* have a lot to do with Gon's and Killua's decisions in this arc.
