Is there any show or cartoon outside of Japan that you feel has enough substance to make an enjoyable anime series or at least movie? I'd love to read your opinions.

• As for my opinion;

1.) Avatar: The last air bender- A mature and slightly gritty remake of this show, perhaps directed by the guys behind Afro Samurai or Michiko e Hatchin.

2.) The walking Dead- Because we all deserve a zombie anime that does not make you question the point of life *cough* hotd...

3.) Tron- Yes.

Give western cartoons a little credit. There are plenty of shallow anime out there (going further, some people might say most anime don't have much depth to begin with).

Back on topic, Jackie Chan Adventures is practically begging for it. I mean they've already got all the moonspeak and strange powers fit for an action-shonen anime. How did Uncle's chant go again?

I definitely agree with Jackie Chan. I would suggest Heroes, Lost, and for some reason Seinfeld.

Oh man, Jackie Chan Adventures was the shit. I can't believe i'd ever use that phrase.

Winx Club practically screams mahou shoujo.

Anyone remember Danny Phantom? I loved that show. ; __; Someone once told me the creator was willing to make a second season, and i was so excited, but only if the fanbase was big enough. Sadly it wasn't... Then i stumbled upon an Anime version of the theme song.
I saw an Anime-style fanart of Xiaolin Shodown, and the idea of an Anime adaptation of that has been with me ever since.

Code Lyoko is another big one as well. It was a little awkward to watch in dub, and the 2D animation wasn't that good either (and their foreheads bothered me), but i loved the show anyway and would love to see it in Anime form.

There was a show on Sci-fi called Chase that i think, if given plot and nice characters, could make a cool Anime.

I don't really watch many live-action shows so i can't really say any others that aren't cartoons.

EDIT: REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA. OMG. I would die. Of happiness.

Shaolin Showdown anyone? and of course Jackie Chan adventures, and the walking dead is freaking awesome.

Never watched Avatar, despite how immensely popular it is. my gosh so many korra cosplays at otakon.i just found the whole show really cliche and kinda dumb >.> got halfway through the movie before i gave up due to the bad acting

TMNT is kinda animeish (especially the 2003 version) though I'm not sure it's originally inspired by anime, it's probably more of an American super hero thing.
Also Ben 10, I never watched it, but it definitely looks like an American attempt to make a shonen anime.
And of course Jackie Chan was great and it looked a lot like a shonen anime.

I'd be interested in seeing some Narnia anime films if they were done by Ghibli.. they just seem to fit well together.
And maybe Twilight.. I bet the anime version of Edward Cullen would be much hotter than RPattz.
That's it really. some of these western cartoons people are naming I don't know if I'd enjoy if they were given japanese anime versions too.

You're never going to see a 1:1 animated adaption of the Walking Dead out of America.

All adaptions have to be live-action because animation is for children, and they will always try to dumb it down for the mainstream.

Making an anime is the only real chance you have at stuff like Harry Potter or Walking Dead getting a proper, animated adaption. Same thing with video game stuff like a 52 episode Mass Effect series or something. Adaptions don't really work that well in the west... unless you want stuff like the old Megaman/Zelda cartoons.

hotd may make us question the point of life but its a damn good anime i'm not saying this because of the boobs and panty shots although that part makes it abit good aswell but back to the point, its good considering the fact that japanese people arent that fanatic about zombie apocalypse so theydont make any but when they do it's always the zombie that lives like normal living human instead of roaming around infecting and devouring people. but then again its just my opinion on it so yeah..

If i'm not mistaken it was a comic (not entirely sure if was a manga) that inspired the TMNT show. The difference was that the comic was gory and brutal but god damn turtles! Let's make a kids show out of this!

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

HOTD is good because it's unique and a breath of fresh air. Pretty much every zombie thing (aside from one offs like Shaun of the Dead) takes itself too seriously and plays out the same way: survivors come together to survive, and find out that, le gasp, humans are more threatening to their survival than the actual zombies are because they start betraying/going crazy/killing/raping each other. HSOD averts that and goes for a more over the top action and fanservice-y approach. Stuff like WD is so by the numbers it's old, bland, and uninteresting.

Game of Thrones would be really interesting to see as an anime. I think that they could do quite a bit with that. There aren't many limits when it comes to anime, so they could probably work closer to the book with it too.

Jackie Chan Adventures, omg yes! I love that show, me and my friends recently did a mini-marathon of it. Still good to this day!

Avatar for a more mature audience would be amazing. I already really like it, and I know it's more of a kids show, but it has a really good story.
I wandered through fiction to look for the truth.

So is half of anime. Korea is like the Mexican of the animation world, he does all the dirty work and everyone else gets the credit.

Huntik: Seekers and Secrets. This was a pretty good cartoon, think it was original Italian, to me this was the best Western cartoon in my childhood, our best national VA's (and there are few good ones) also played in it.

Also Jackie Chan, no explanation needed.

I think these would make great anime, but they should keep the same style of art, and maybe change the stories a little so that its not a recolored rerun.

Heavy Metal or perhaps some other stories from the magazine.

I know right. HOTD is pretty much a good anime and worth to watch if you're a fan of both anime and zombie apocalypse. I dont understand though why do japanese people prefer to make school romance and fantasy anime than to make action zombie ones
