First of all congrats to the Japanese Team. Deserving of the top spot, however, how do you lose to Costa Rica and pull off two of the biggest upsets????

I will never know

When teams go into a game looking down on their opponents, upsets happen.
Saudi Arabia scored their goals in like 5 minutes at the beginning of the second half and then parked the bus, Japan did the same against Spain and Germany.
Japan went into their game with Costa Rica with an extremely different line up than they did when they played Germany knowing that they would play Spain later it would be better to get 3 points against Costa Rica and clinch a position, but no. The manager decided to bench half their original line up.

So, looking down on your opponent is the major reason I guess.

They didn't clinch a position and at one point for 3 minutes they would not have qualified (cause Costa Rica was winning at that point), so it seems kind of risky to do that.

I guess that why both games are at the same time. To avoid teams throwing matches for a preferable knockout stage path.

That was amazing what Japan did in the World Cup, beating two of the world's juggernauts and winning the Group of Death. Japan's team is already great, and it would definitely reach new heights if it adds a striker that has been through it all at Blue Lock.

My man, the refs used Goal-line technology to determine the state of the ball, they didn't see it by their naked eye. When you watch football but do not have any basic knowledge about football, I feel so cringey replying your comment.

Spain opened their legs for the Japanese. They don't like how Leonardo Luna is getting shafted in Blue lock. Just joking, I didn't actually watch the match but I read that there was some controversy over Japan's second goal.

Look at the picture with a view from above that was tagged earlier. The ball wasn't fully out, and I say this as a Spaniard. While Japan may have only done something substantial for 5 minutes of the game, they were scary in offence, so props to them.

P.S. Shame on that other guy for trying to belittle someone because of their English skills when they're trying their best to speak in a language that isn't their mother tongue, just cause they have no better argument.

Not quite. In the first image you have provided, only D is actually out of play. All of the ball has to be beyond all of the line. Only D satisfies that criteria.

In the game however this position was observed.

I've used the goal post and the 6 yard box line as reference to draw the horizon and vertical lines and assumed an isometric view approximation since the camera is much farther away when compared to the distances between the ball and the reference lines (the goalpost and the 6 yrd box line). As you can see the ball has still not fully crossed the goal line. So it falls under category C which means it was still in.

I think i see what people are trying to say; the judgement is made in a birds eyes view not laterally. Thats weird, but if thats soccer, thats that.

Ah dont mind dont mind, I get that the bird eye view is whats considered. You should have come around sooner and then it would have been more impactful to be a dick.

This has been the theme so far in the World Cup, not just the Japanese team. Like Senegal qualifying instead of Ecuador. Germany losing to Japan and drawing with Spain who defeated Costa Rica 7-0 who again defeated Japan. It's just football.๐Ÿ˜‚

if ur not a soccer guy why are u judging without knowing anything about the sport lol. if the ball stays on the line even if its 1mm it counts and if u look at it from a bird’s eye view it’s just barely on the line so it counts.

They never taught you logical thinking, I presume? Coz that was perfectly readable, speaking as someone who doesn't know or speak Wakanda.

Btw, it's "proper use of English", not "a proper use of English". And the E of English should be capital.

Next time, just use Grammarly to avoid embarrassing yourself and looking like a clown.
