What's an anime you thought you'd give a high score at first but ended up giving it a low score? Or something you thought would be low but ended up getting a high score?

It's a 2 part question.

1) An anime in the first couple episodes you thought you'd give it a high score but by the end, you gave it a low score.

2) An anime that at first you thought you'd give a low score but progressively got better and you gave it a high score.

Even though I didn't rate aot a low score, I did think it would be higher.

I don't really have anything I thought would be low but ended up being high.

1. Railgun s3 (9→8), the second part of the season is not that great, and Charlotte(9 or 8→7), because of its rushed ending.

2. Dr.stone s2(8→9), the last two or three episodes made it even better.

1. Darwin's Game. Thought the premise sounded interesting asf and I enjoyed the first few episodes. Towards the end the pacing and character development seemed rushed asf. I had it rated as a 9 the first half but when the series was finished I dropped it to a 6.

2. The Disasterous Life of Saiki K. I didn't think I'd like this primarily because I don't think a majority of comedy anime is actually funny. But this one....oh man. Most of the cast in this anime had me in near tears at some point. I'd say the funniest character for me would be Riki Nendo closely followed by Kaido. I haven't rated either of the seasons lower than a 9, so that should tell you something

1. Just this season with Sabikui Bisco. Fun start, but that's where the compliments end

2. Gal to Dino, especially when the live action scenes first appeared. But by the end of the series, I rated it a 9 XD

1) Serial Experiments Lain. I thought I would give it a 8 or 9 but the anime didn't made sense to me. So I gave it 6.

Hunter x Hunter. I thought it would be great as claimed by the elitists but that anime sucked after Yorknew City Arc. If the pacing had been done well, then I would have liked the show but instead I slept while watching this anime

2) Great Teacher Onizuka. I actually hated it at first but then as I saw more development in this show, I ended up liking it and gave it a 8/10.

surprised that noone mentioned promised neverland yet. s1 raised expectations so high but then what s2 delivered was so far beyond (or rather so far below) anyone's predictions

on the other hand my first impression of nagatoro was not very good. I honestly considered dropping after ep 1. good thing I decided to give ep 2 a chance and the show kind of redeemed the initial impression pretty quickly

1) The Day I Became a God. It was going well, and the thing that was supposed to be the "factor" was coming; in my opinion, it would have been an 8-9... then the ending came.

2) Null Peta. I thought it would be another series of the term "something to watch" and would have a score of 6. The incoming plot twist was amazing, in my opinion. It ended with a score of 8.

1) i expected so much more from the anime Charlotte but the story itself was just boring , would be a 4

2) osomatsu-san. I thought it was going to be your average comedy anime, but It somehow hit my exact spot for humour, I'd prob rate it 9

1. Code Geass - it has so many elements I like but it turned out to just have too much going on and it came across as a mess for me. I gave it a 4.

2. idolish7 - I was expecting a generic trashy anime with pretty boys (which I enjoy from time to time but never expect to be any good) but I actually loved it! I got really invested in the characters and storylines and I can’t wait for the next season! I gave it an 8.

I don't know... maybe something like Paprika? I really thought I would love it and give it a 9/10 or 10/10 because I heard great things about it and I loved Satoshi Kon's other work, Perfect Blue. I just thought it was just 'okay'. 6/10 (it's not really that low, but it doesn't take away the disappointment. I probably should've gone into it with an open mind).

I remember being completely underwhelmed by Ghost In The Shell the first time I watched it (I think I gave it a 4/10) but I recently rewatched it and I liked it way more.

For what I thought I would give a low score but was actually high, probably The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (I didn't get the hype around it until I watched it), Ghost In The Shell 2, Serial Experiments Lain (my sister would always complain how it was a load of utter nonsense), and Kanon.

I thought I'd give Ousama Rankings a higher score but the second half wasn't as good as the first half. It's a shame.

For the anime that I gave higher scores when I thought I'd give it a low score, I have a few in mind. Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz comes to my mind cause with how shitty Wing is, I thought the movie would be the same, but it's a complete banger.
Senki Zesshou Symphogear XV also comes to my mind because the other seasons are just consistent with its tone and story, but XV blows my mind so much that it's not even close.

I wasted all my time in rewatching to the point of my rewatch total is higher than my overall anime total lmao

1). Cowboy Bebop, I like it but I guess I had my expectations too high because it wasn’t THAT good, 7-ish/10. Another one is Princess Mononoke for the same reasons.

2). Honestly, for something I thought I would give a low score, it was Nanbaka, I ended up liking it more than I thought I would and started reading the manga.

Before watching though:
Mob Psycho 100. Ended up giving it a 5 (not terrible imo). I’d seen all the super good parts and expected more from it, but for a lot of it it’s kind of bland, boring, and just an inferior version of One Punch Man.

Ended up liking Devilman Crybaby a lot more because the ending hit like a truck.

Originally thought "Sonny Boy" was going to be good. Even though I didn't rate it till I finished watching it, I thought it was going to be a great Anime. Over all it was extremely boring. It was interesting at 1st but as the story went on I found myself falling asleep several time when binge watching it. Ended up giving it a less than stellar score because of this.

When I 1st started watching "So I'm a Spider, So What?" I thought it was going to be lame considering how rushed the animation looked. After watching a few more episodes I started to enjoy the story finding it entertaining. I still didn't like the way the season ended but over all it was entertaining to finish.

I never gave any filler movie a 10/10, even most canon movies are not worth a 10/10 IMO until recently when I watched the YYH 2018 Two-shots, it was really well made. Thought I'd give it a 9/10 at first but changed my mind into giving it a full score.

I gave AOT and DS a full score as they were few of the first anime I ever watched, but I eventually decreased them to a 7/10 as I watched more deserving anime.

1. Samurai Flamenco. The first 6 or so episodes led me to think it'd be a 7 or 8 series, but then ep 7 hit and it went on a downhill slide to a 4.

2. Shoukoku no Altair. I thought it'd be a 5 or MAYBE a 6 series because of the first few episodes... but it finally hit it's stride and hooked me after episode 5 and it's an 8 in my list.

2. D-Frag at first i just thinking D-Frag was just another Comedy anime like the other ones, but after rewatching it several times then i realize D-Frag was Awesome. [6>9]

1: Kado: The right answer
The ending betrayed what the series was.
A more comonly known show would be Steins;Gate. Liked the first half much more than the second one.

2: Battle spirits Bashin Dan
Half way through, I finally had hopes for the show.

1- Kill la Kill, I really don't like it. I loved it at first but close to the hallfway point I started finding it unbearable and a struggle to watch. And it just got worse, it's a 4 for me, I changed it to a 5 recently for some reason but I'm making it a 4 again. People were comparing it to Lagann back when it realeased, what an insult.

2- Kamichu! I remember specifically texting my ex bf stuff like "sorry babe I wanna finish this show, it's not even good it's like a 5..." and now I have it as a 9. It may lower to an 8 but even that's really good for a show I didn't like at first.

Also Bakemonogatari, I really REALLY hated Senjougahara and didn't like the general tone/ comedy/ writing of the show. But it grew on me, even though I still don't like her I really began feeling like the show had something to it. An 8

1. Haruhi Series, it was one of my friend's favorite anime so it's one of the series I watched when I was new but I think it's not fun at all. I do think Nagato (the best girl in the show) and Haruhi herself are kinda cute lol.

2. Love Live Sunshine, it probably the anime that grew on me the most as the series progressed.

I did not think I would like Kiki's Delivery Service as much as I did. When I watched this, I had already seen a few Ghibli movies and not been very impressed, failing to understand all the hype about them. I was expecting Kiki to be a 5 or 6, but I ended up giving it an 8.

For the thought it'd be high but ended up being low, the obvious answers lie in some of my dropped animes, like Fruits Basket and Little Busters.
For shows that I actually managed to finish, there are lots of shows that turned out to be average, but one show I was excited for was The Way of the Househusband, only to end up heavily dissapointed with the execution of the show. I ended up giving it a 3 whereas I was expecting a 7 or 8.

1) Japan Sinks 2020. The first two episodes were pretty decent, but after that the quality dropped hard.

2) Can't think of anything tbh. Closest thing would be Durarara I guess, which takes like six episodes of buildup before anything really happens, but the early episodes aren't bad.

Komi-san can't communicate: After the first episode it looked like a strong 8-9, but in the end it was a weak 3.

Keijo: It seemed stupid at first and I even considered dropping it with a 2 or 3 but wanted to see the Fate/stay night reference at least. Glad I gave it another chance because it was really fun and entertaining ending at a 10 for me.

Seitokai Yakuindomo. I thought I might be enjoying sexual jokes but I wasn't really.,
Nichijou. I was really expecting 10/10 but I was dissappointed. There were golden moments like deer vs teacher, mio loses it and dog bite but I didn't like that much I thought I would.
Mairimashita! Iruma-kun. I wasn't really expecting anything and in first episodes I thought I'd drop it few episodes later. But I enjoyed very much in the end. I'm glad I didn't drop it.
Log Horizon. I thought it could be one of my favorite shows but it felt pretty lackluster and all the girls likes the mc and wants him to all to herself. (Such a classic.)
Bofuri. I was expecting something interesting and funny but it was just moe with isekai elements blended in.
Magi series as a whole. I really wanted to like this series but didn't click for me. Felt like glorified shounen.

I thought I'd be giving Wonder Egg Priority at least an 8 after the first few episodes, I ended up giving it a 4 and even that was generous. This is the one that really springs to mind for me.

Darwins Game and Darling in the Franxx were both shows I thought would be at least a 7 (probs an 8) early on but I gave them both a 6 in the end. DG lost momentum as it went on and DitF just had a way too out there ending.

On the flip side I nearly dropped Steins;Gate halfway through the first time I watched it but now it's my all time favourite aime.

Both Hinamatsuri and Chuunibyou seemed like the kind of reasonably amusing shows that would get a 6 (maybe scrape a 7 if they were lucky) but I gave them both 9s in the end. S1 of Chuunibyou was particularly impressive for me the way it pivoted halfway through from a cheerful SoL to a show that kept the SoL comedy elements but focused more on an deeper emotional story.
The criteria I use when rating shows is on my profile.
