| Hi guys, I think the title covers it all. I was wondering of any of you is learning (or allready learned!) Japanese since or because you started watching anime. Just to understand anime better, because you are going (or went) to travel to Japan or for your own social development? I'm very curious. I myself just started learning Japanese because I like the language itself. I also considered to do a study for the Japanese language but in the end choose not to (due to the lack of certainty in terms of job guarantees). I'm wondering what your opinion is! ^^ |

| Anime made me want to learn Japanese but I don't really want to bother learning it alone and I don't really know anyone who is interested in learning with me. |

Nope, I can't even learn English to speak / express myself fluently. But it's a good idea to learn a language to understand medium more. In my case probably won't ever happen but I wish good luck to OP. |

I'm wondering when I will master that stage xD |

I created a profile on Memrise (.com) and then you may select the language(s) you want to learn. You can set a goal for yourself how long you want to study each day. I set mine on 15 minutes a day. This mean you are literally learning words for 15 minutes, not al the time in between (so I guess I'm busy for half an hour a day). With my working schedule, my study and sporting hours, this is really easy to combine and still learn the language you want to learn. Also, in Holland you can take home study courses. Never participated tough. I hope this helps you. Maybe @Dandy-san can also help? |

No, never researched it myself. I did went to view day for the Japanese study and they gave a beginner lesson. They told me they first learned all the Hiragana and Katakana characters. Maybe you can start with this too? This is also taught in the beginning at Memrise, by the way. |

| I kinda got idea once... to start learning japanese but then i considered everything- why i need japanese if i wount live in Japan and for traveling to Japan i only need english cuzz english language know everyone ... And to learn japanese only for anime or manga... that is crazy! But not stupid- that is grate to have sucha big determination! But why waste your time if u only ll use this dificult language only for anime and manga... kinda disapointing. But for all those who are learning japanese- HAVE LUCK AND STRONG DETERMINATION! I hope that everyone wount even know that your 1st language is not japanese! (u ll be soo good at it) PS. But for me even if i dont want to learn japanese- watching anime sub or from anime names i learned so far quite a loot words but i doubt i ll be ever able to understand writing and long sentences. :DDD (i know that the same have hapened to a lot of u guys too) |

| はいはい! I started watching anime because I moved away from other Japanese speakers. I prefer anime to normal TV shows because all the words are spoken clearly. Also cause I'm too stupid to read hard novels. Good luck with learning the Chinese characters though, I'm still barely at the N3 level because of it. |

| in the west: "I'm learning Japanese because I like anime" typical response: omg you noob f*** weaaboo go kill yourself. in Japan or with Japanese natives: 日本のアニメが結構好きなんで、日本語を勉強しはじめた。 I started learning Japanese because i like Japanese animation. typical response you'll get from real people: いいね。頑張ってください。 nice! good luck with your studies. ... |

| I'm not smart enough to learn the kanji stuff, though i understand the anime i watch without the subs...btw the more complicated one between eng and jap is definitely former, when it comes to understanding through hearing - the english is on a different frequency =_= it's like eror 404 - my brain simply reject the english >,> ah the question - no, i don't try to learn it anymore, though i once did and failed. |

| I'm slowly learning it and will probably study it too. Here in France making a living out of it is doable with the amount of manga and anime we're importing (and destroying with our dubs). I'm also learning to cook japanese so beware ladies and gentlemen, I think it's a severe case of weeabooism. Might be contagious. |

| Picked it up from Decades of watching anime, So thought might aswell turn it into a useful skill, So decided to learn to read and write hiragana. I already knew a decent amount of Kanji. So either way I saw no downside in learning it to a useful degree. |

| I know katakana and hiragana, it was a fun learning process. Trying to learn some kanji but it's hard. I don't wanna learn it because of anime, it's just beneficial for me to understand the language when communicating with the japanese scene of certain fighting games. And I'm also currently in Japan and it's more rewarding navigating around yourself rather than having to rely on Google translate. |

Just to understand anime better, because you are going (or went) to travel to Japan or for your own social development? Yup, I started at the end of this summer, made a 4 months break, and I'm currently retrying. I dunno if I'll ever be able to be somewhat "fluent" with it one day, but who cares? へへ As for why: I got bored. I happens to follow a youtube channel about the languages, and that gave me a desire to learn a new language, for a changing of pace. After a reflexion: I learned English because of my hobbies, English really helped me in them. And the second language that I come across the more often during my hobbies is Japanese, so go for that one. If one day I want to learn a fourth language, it will probably be German. I simply know that i can't learn a new language if I don't "use" it regularly. So it is not directly linked to anime/manga, but that's still a part of why. Plus I hope that @Clebardman will study Japanese next year, because he'll come to my city for it. It could be fun, to speak broken Japanese together. :D |

| If I could learn the entire language in a month I would. But there's no reason for me to learn the language just to watch cartoons. I don't plan to visit Japan nor do I know anyone who speaks it. So it would be basically useless. |
