I haven't seen too much comedy anime, and if this is what they're like, I've been missing out!

Nice OP/ED too.

Ahhh, SHAFT is my waifu. Hurp durp, I kid. But seriously, I am loving this completely out there and unique show. I've never come across something as wacky yet just plain fun to watch as this. It just grabs your attention.

Maaya as Nino is perfect <3
When I saw the first episode I thought this series was a bit too weird, but with the second one I'm enjoying it more.
Kappa is hilarious, and Sister was just priceless.
Also, I LOVE the opening, not just the song, the images and everything fit so perfectly, is awesome <333

I'm in despair, about the fact that the best anime airing this saeson is a random comedy show. I mean, is it even possible to have a better anime than Durarara among those airing right now?... >_> This is the only 'truely' unique thing out now.

I just fell in love with this series; this is definitely my cup of tea of humour. I decided myself to ignore fuckin shinbou and his eye scenes, and see things unbiased as possible which actually worked. Even though it will never reach the level that Bakemonogatari went, Arakawa under the bridge is definite gem of this season.

I was having crossing viewpoints on using Kamiya Hiroshi as a role of Kou. But now, I'm quite settled that he was one of the better choice for the role of Rikuruto. Now he started to somehow differs with Zetsubou Sensei and Araragi attitude. Trauma of debt is being so well portrayed in the story and it will eventually be the one that constructs the entire theme of this anime.

Nino, on the other hand, is just fantastic. She doesn't have that huge impact we've seen from shenjougahara from bakemonogatari, but she is unique in her own kind. Laid back, emotionless eye but cool laughter, lacking common sense but direct with her feelings. Other characters are all frantically hilarious and creative.

I can't wait for the next episode. Also, OP was just pure beauty; which is what SHAFT always do their best. (*except DitVB) Although, I don't really like what SHAFT's are doing with this show.

Edited: Also, Sister's voice actor being Adam blade is highly intriguing. XD

I like this show simply BECAUSE it's odd and unusual. It's a breath of fresh air among the slice of life/comedy genre. I really enjoy the characters and the animation is done fairly well. I especially like the animation and chosen colors in the OP. I hope this series stays this good as I can't wait for episode 3!

There is nothing wrong with that. The best winter anime was an easy slice of life, so what?

Just because a show have a plot doesn't mean it is better than an other.
Arakawa Under the Bridge fulfilled its goal and doesn't fail at entertaining, that's good enough to call it the best current anime.

That's not it. I was saying, that all the other promising shows fallen down into the cliche cycle when Arakawa under the bridge didn't, even though it is in the area of genre (comedy) where those cliche gets overused easily. It's not because it is random comedy genre that I'm in despair; I'm in despair because it was the 'ONLY' genre that actually succeeded on delivering something special.

Plus, I though the best winter 2010 anime was Durarara by default, not slice of life genre. Oh well.

Nino's philosophies are simple yet Ric can't seem to grasp the basic idea to not judge people by their appearance.

Hmm... This show seems to have a message to sent by seeing this second episode. It's kind of stepping on the pretentious bullshit of modern society(classic example of him trying to introduce himself by his belongings in his attempt to make himself feel superior or humiliate others) and the solidarity it brings(his reactions on human companionship and simple kindness show that). And the main guy represents than society while at the same time his a victim of it seeing by his crazy father. BTW in a show full of weirdos that father of his, takes the prize by a big difference. The guys under the bridge are strange weird people but his father was one sic fuck.

As about humor. Well i can't say i actually laugh much watching this show. I watch it more with a sense of intrigue and curiosity. That doesn't mean am bored though. The dialogs and the strange events keep my interest while watching.

I still can't have a solid opinion about this show since i don't know how it will develop but it's clearly more in the style of shows that Shaft knows how to do.

I enjoyed this ep. a lot more than the last one. I found some humor to be pretty funny too.
It's starting to grow on me, just a bit. Particularly, from Ko's introduction scene.

TBH, I found it really dumb to watch a show by going with a company name only. I mean, SHAFT has been doing a really great job when it comes to a weird show but if it were an action show I think you might want to turn the screen off and listen to the sound only.

And I am really tired with people came to say "SHAFT is awesome" I mean I get it but can you say something else other than that?

!!! Agree with all of this.
Coming from finishing up Gintama, I kept on expecting the touching/serious moments to be subverted by some mood destroying gags, but was pleasantly surprised that Kou experienced some development. Very much looking forward to future episodes now that it seems like there won't be a 'reset' button every time.

Good show is so far good.

Well, it's not boring, so that's good. But i will say that Riku gets about 70% of the dialogue, and while I'm watching the episode, I don't notice, but right when the music plays, I think, "Did I hear anyone else talk, really?" I don't know. I'm not sure how fresh this will stay, but I'll give Hiroshi Kamiya props for yet again managing to differentiate his characters voice despite not doing much with the actual sound of his voice. Kou doesn't sound like Itoshiki, Araragi, Izaya, or any of his other characters because he approaches it with a different energy, and they all just feel separate. That's real acting. I wish most voice actors were as careful as he is.

Sorry, SHAFT did go down last year, and bombed with DitVB. Natsu no Arashi was the only complete gem for them last year. Everything else was riddled with horrible production values, or, in the case of Zan SZS, almost total lack of creativity. They're a disappointing studio on the level of KyoAni.

Sorry, I couldn't resist it.

I would rather say that most of the goods is coming from Nakamura Light and Seiyuus (Kamiya is 2professional) than SHAFT in this show.

*sighs; and I can see that lack of creativity keeps letting down everything they make. They are a bit overusing materials from the bakemonogatari now-a-days. In this show, only things that SHAFT positively contributed is their BG colour palette, an OP animation and being unbelievably close adaption to the manga; there are more negatives so far, including eyes and awkward animation.

So blah. Overall, SHAFT isn't doing well but relying on the original material. This really differs from their past, where they used so much experimental and unique techniques, like in ZokuSZS.

"On this planet, must there always be a reason for helping others?"- Nino, 1st episode

Despite the quirkiness of this series, this line is the most mature and profound I've heard in a while.

The way I see it, Arakawa Under the Bridge presents real life themes in an exaggerated manner. I like how Nino's voice actor sounds femininely deep and laidback instead of cutesy and high-pitched otherwise I would've damned this show to hell.

PS
For fans of Welcome to the NHK, there's a brief scene in the OP that is a parody of the cover of Welcome to the Darkside by Pearl Kyoudai.

Like garytek said, it has that feeling of exaggerating people and ideals and questioning them. Although basically everything revolves around recruit accepting others so far.

Yeah, it did, and as a whole, I see why. The thing has gone totally downhill with the internert arc, and it makes me go back to a lot of the few problems I had during the show, proper.

The only experimental/unique techniques in Bakemonogatari I found were the cg backgrounds, and that general art nouveau design, that's a little reminiscent of the opening they did for Maria Holic. Everything else was pretty much what they did well in ef-memories. At this point, I kind of feel like they're experimenting with watering down their visual flare without really thinking about the shows they implement it in.
It's that point where SHAFT went downhill.
I think they started to go down hill with ef~melodies. That show was atrociously cliche in nearly every way, and it doesn't help that they almost totally ripped every technique that worked brilliantly in memories for melodies. Then Maria Holic was bland as hell (besides the opening and endings), Zan SZS was a disappointment, and DitVB was plain awful. Natsu no Arashi was near great in the first season, faltered a little in the second, and Bakemongatari was great despite the slide show aspects until these last 3 epiosdes.
