As much as i'm a fan of this series, they really put the slice of life segment in a bad spot for the series, though i'm not sure they could put it anywhere else.
Next chapter should, provided they don't water it down, bring what fans are looking forward to.

@iskakunn This chapter didn't even introduce half the named ones, just the most powerful ones.
If this follows the original story we should get some info on the last 3 years in future episodes, as much as this slice of life part feels out of place, i'm not sure where else they could put it so it was probably the best place to put it if they didn't omit it completely.
@Tatsuya
Yeah well I'm not a huge fan of how the Light Novel speedruns the introduction.
They could have cut the sidestories entirely, but we would have jumped immediately in the revenge arc and the Abyss would have been completely skipped.
Not sure if it would have been better.

Super annoying second episode and characters... I hope it gets better
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

A curiosity, Kanji used in the title of the episode "The Abyss" does not necessarily use kanji for abyss but rather the Kanji (奈落) that can be translated as hell.(or that villain from InuYasha lol) but different from "Jigoku" which also means hell, but this one has a different kanji, (地獄)Jigoku, Naraku (奈落) both mean hell.

This is a horrible anime adaptation. Why can't they just follow the manga script? This episode introducing the characters is just pointless it's better to introduce them as they move forward with the story. 1 more trashy episode and i'm dropping this, better to just read the manga.

@HansDevX
Because it's not adapted from a Manga, but a Light Novel.
The Manga skipped all the side-stories that makes the abyss feels like there's an actual life down there.

man holy shit I wanted to watch this for the silly name it had but this turned out to be insufferable... suddenly there's a bunch of characters and we barely get an explanation where they came from and what is happening in general... also they are all quite annoying :D I wanted to stick around for the revenge but I really don't give a damn about what just happened

what an awful 2nd episode. barely has anything carried over from the 1st episode and just jumps straight into side characters with maybe 1 or 2 minutes of MC screen time all to convey ultimately nothing? probably the most jarring second episode I've seen, equally seeing people mention the Manga didnt adapt this content because it wasnt popular, so why make a (feels like filler) episode most people didnt even like from the LN? just feels like a wildly bad choice from the director. ep 3 better put it back on track or this is a drop.

If you don't know where they come from, just watch the first episode again.
Or just check how they're presented when Mei talks about them at the start of the episode.

...and if it's not obvious enough, they're all summon from his gacha.

@Hot-Pantaloons
The manga decided to not adapt the side-stories, probably to focus more on the main story (there are actually a lot of side-stories in the Light Novel).
The side-stories are used to make the life in the dungeon more living, since most of the story actually happens outside of it.

I think (and it's my opinion because I don't know) it should be popular in Japan in a way or another. The author has his own website where he adds even more side-contents (if I had to guess what side-contents is added (because it needs a password) I would say the first part of episode 1 could be an example), the author may have a way to know how many people connects to his website to know if his side-contents is popular or not.

Well, this went downhill pretty fast. The first episode was fairly interesting, but it devolved into a hodgepodge of several recent isekai that were mediocre at best.

oes he never go to the surface? What about his parents? He's gonna be an OP lead with the worst adventure ranking? Almost sounds like a genin level hokage I know.

@groudonvert and about 70% of anime feature harems these days it seems. Either way, bad episode. Could have focused more on his training or world building instead of a bunch of maids drooling over him, trying to sniff his feet or rolling around on his bed sniffing the covers. Resorting to that type of "filler" in episode 2 isnt really a good sign when you have a few episodes at most to make a case for the anime being worthwhile.

The tone whiplash compared to ep 1 is a bit jarring at first, but of course it wouldn't be a show about gacha if they didn't do the common gacha practice of showing off all the different waifus first 😂, and all of them are so silly and entertaining, the airhead knight girl is stupidly funny, the catgirl is very cute, and my favorite is the silly maid quartet and their dynamic with Mei LMAO. But aside from the silly stuff, we got to see a glimpse of how much Light has built over the past 3 years and how much power he has now. I presume this show will follow the formula of switching back and forth between the dark edgy plot and the silly SoL plot, just like in "I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire" (that show was top tier trashy funtime, highly recommended!), so I expect next episode to go back to the revenge arc starting with the beastman.

Also I see a lot of tourists got filtered out by this episode and I'm glad lol, I think this show is only for the true fantasy/isekai connoisseurs and anime trashmen 😎

It's fun to just get right into it, but that was a hell of a time-skip.

I couldn't tell if that was a flash-forward to a later point in the story at first (and that they were then going to show the MC fighting and levelling in the Labyrinth while gaining followers), but I guess not 😬

The cast of characters is pretty typical (like an Eminence of Shadow, or Overlord vibes), but I like it all so far.

Despite this probably being one of the most boring anime episodes of all time, I’m glad we actually got to see Light’s first prey. I thought it would end right before Garou, leaving us in suspense about who the prey was until the next episode, but that wasn’t the case. Curious how Light exacts his vengeance.

Not many harems have a 12 years old boy at the center surrounded by both adult men and women.

@Kicks1995 Yeah, it's true to the original. We didn't find out what happened during the three years until like Vol 6 of the manga, I believe.

@iskakunn I haven't red the Manga, but after I've seen 2nd episode I have no doubt it is 5(Average) or less

Is there a reason for this HUGE time leap from 1st episode end and 2nd episode beginning?
I clearly see that important piece of character development was thrown in the garbage bin 🚮
@Alexios nope ig the author assumed that people don't want to watch the back story so he didn't wrote about it in the early chapters

I see a lot of people thinking logically and objectively and everything, but at the end of the day otakus love maids, and that's what matters.
It's sad to see the community full of tourists. Years ago, everyone would be commenting on how cute the maids are and choosing which one was the best, but now it's just people trying to be renowned critics instead of having fun.

Episode 1 was better than this

I missed the very first scene saying "3 years later in the abyss" and thought I was watching the wrong show. Was certainly confused. And for 3 years later, the mc still seemed rather young...

Pretty bad episode though. Just a bunch of harem chicks fawning over and childishly arguing with each other over the mc

Hopefully it gets better soon. I'm only here for revenge right now. Nothing else interests me

Well damn, this is an enjoyable show. Love Nezuna she's amazing. Seems like it has an avid fan base so thats' a good sign. To be honest if anything I highly doubt it'll be this Slice of lifey as the series goes on (And I don't want to know yet), but I could legit watch this if it was just a slice of life with the girls goofing around.

OK this went into a totally different direction than I thought it would. I had hoped seeing Mai and him doing survival training and escaping the dungeon. But given the title I guess he can pull off erm out anything and that's the result. Hadn't expected the comedy after a dark first episode either.

yea, all of that was skipped but it will be revealed in a flashback how he got so powerful and what he was doing all those 3 years later in the story but definitely not in this season.

This episode feels lie they accidentally aired an episode from later in the season. The manga handled the buildup way better, instead of spending 80% of the second episode following around people who aren't even interacting with the main character.

Hopefully they get back on track with episode 3 - this is not a good start.

Revenge, malice, and gacha are all nonsense. The most disgusting thing here is that his servants worship and adore the main character. He doesn't need to find common ground with them. He doesn't need to subjugate or convince them. They just want to obey his every command and adore their master. A miracle happened, and suddenly, everyone started adoring the little brat. Unlike Rimuru, who gradually worked his way through it all. He slowly found loyal allies. He overcame difficulties. As a result of the current anime, he's cool, but not super mega op. This little guy already has a kingdom full of absolutely loyal servants. From nothing. Adoration. From nothing.
There aren't any difficulties here. Mana in the abyss is inexhaustible. Resources aren't needed. You don't need to master or construct spells. You just turn the gacha, and a stream of obedient servants who adore you pours out. It's the wet dream of a schoolboy who is always offended by everyone. All of this is achieved not through mastering power or training, but simply by rolling an entire kingdom. There's no need to talk about his training. He doesn't need it. He has a legion of servants he can send out to conquer the world. He doesn't need to train to roll servants in gacha.

Quite a change of pace and mood from first episode. This also makes hard to understand what this anime really is.
The bunch of maids reminded me of budget version of Eminence in Shadow.
So far it is solid 6/10 anime.
