Manga Spoiler:

I’m a little confused why the ending credits (this season, not episode 12 technically) showed a glimpse of her Mandate of Heaven cosplay when it was clear half way in we wouldn’t be making it to that arc.
@EastCoastVandal

Season 1 Opening showed a glimpse of Shizuku maid outfit too and that outfit didn't appear in season 1 at all , only in EP2 of season 2 so I don't know why people took the Haniel cosplay in the ED that we see during 0,5 seconds seriously lol they were obviously not reaching the final arc with only 12 EPs, even after the first episode finished airing I knew it wasn't possible.

But I agree that it makes no sense and make this anime original ending even more frustrating yes...

Quite a switchup from Akira there. From a depressed looking girl to an absolute crazy fan of Kitagawa. The coffin cosplay still didn't feel very comfortable. It felt pretty creepy with how everybody was smiling with all the "blood and guts" on themselves. Sucks that Kitagawa didn't confess, but oh well, I'm used to romance doing that. Pretty good ending to a pretty good show.

Woah... with that wig and contacts, now I realize Shinju could easily cosplay as Makima from CSM. Seeing a fanart of that would be cool, ngl.

So as expected, there was no confession from Marin and the whole issue with Akira, that was dragged out over several episodes, ended up concluding on the most underwhelming note possible. At the end of the day, gotta say the photoshoot segment was what saved this otherwise lackluster season finale.

Mediocre season overall. Well... at least from a narrative point of view, because production values were anything but mediocre/bad throughout these 12 episodes.
But yeah, this season was more focused on the cosplay aspect of the story and that added to the introduction of new side-characters with their own backstories and personal issues ended up sidelining any progression Marin and Gojou could have had. Progression that despite being slow asf, it continued to be the strongest point of this adaptation.

I know a lot of comments here disagree, but I enjoyed this season way more than the first. It felt like there were fewer cringe moments, which has always been my biggest issue with this anime—the characters’ constant overreactions. Take the scene where Akira confesses to being a huge Marin fan, for example. I get they’re trying to show joy and passion, but the exaggeration feels overdone. I prefer something more subtle and natural.

That said, this season was a blast overall! Really hoping they wrap it up with a third season.

Can understand ending season 1 of a romantic comedy with a lighthearted tease.. by the time you get to the end of season 2, you really hope for at least some amount of advancement in the relationship, and just an awkward selfie scene felt like not it.. Some small payoff after waiting three and a half years would have been nice.

Feel like the chances of a third season or movie are probably decent given the show's popularity, but you never know for certain, and you never know how much longer it's going to take.

This episode was a great and satisfying conclusion for the second season.

So far the coffin cosplays event with all the girls in "Nuns' habits" was nice to see and the requisites Gojo and Akira made where "convincing". Its so nice to see when they all have their fun together. The images/shoots of the gfirls were convincing and captured the horror atmosphere well. When Sajuna wasn't able to see all that fake blood and organes, it was strong from her not to destroy the atmosphere. However, it somehow also leads to her decision not to want to cosplay anymore (which she revealed to Gojo-kun). At least everyone helped her to process or overcome this horror.

As the scene shifted to Marin and Shinju, the latter wanted to head back to the studio, crossing paths with Akira. She realized that Akira and Marin had not taken any pictures together, which she insisted on when Marin caught up with them. This finally led to Akira confessing her true feelings for Marin, because (unlike revealed in an earlier episode) she is actually a huge fan of hers. This was so cute and funny and her sreams where authentic. Her enjoyfull screams were also just a result of Marin's happiness at finally having found a fan (which was truly a joy to see). At least Miyako and Suzuka apologized for allowing this misunderstanding to happen (even though there wasn't much they could do). Afterwards, they left the event together, before parting with very sweet and satisfied faces.

The most favorite part of the episode started when Marin and Wakana where alone. On the way to her train station, Marin realized that she wasn't able so far to confess her true romantic feelings to Gojo-kun already. As she tried to convince herself more and more, they also reached their goal, which increasingly stressed her. At least Wakan suggested to accompany her home, which made her heart race again. Her expressions there were so cute. On the way home, she could at least say the word 'suki' (like), even though she couldn't quite pronounce all that was needed here (though her feelings are more than clear). In front of her apartment, she chared another beautifull moment with Wakana, where she started to become shy again (after he looked so cute to her). When they switched their attention to the sunset, Wakana told her about his desire to make more props and cosplays (which was a very beautifull scene). The music really perfectly underscores the whole scene here.
After Wakana told her how much fun they had and she started smiling again, she remembered so many sweet and cute moments they had shared before. Even though she couldn't tell him what she felt, she at least tried and was able to convince him to take a picture with her. It somehow suited her nature, and it was sweet how she got close to him and hugged him while taking the picture. On the other hand, Wakana was overwhelmed again and tried to break away from Marin, which is how the entire episode ended... with a cute image of them with two happy faces.

So it was a great ending for the second season, with some nice developments, many funny moments, and once again a really great and lovingly made animation.

I'm not saying it won't happen but seeing how they went for an anime original scene to end the season and cut the final cosplay which was literally mentioned in the panel right after they started their anime original scene, it's not looking good.

Godeku said:
There’s still 1 more arc right? Movie or a new season?

For the 150th time, both can work but if movie happens they will have to make it very long , CSM Reze arc movie adapted a 12 chapters arc for example (I know if has a lot of action and fight scenes and it's not exactly the same but still) MDUD has 30 chapters left.

If new season there is, they might have to make it shorter (around 8-10 EPs) or add anime original content to make it 12EPs.

Well surely they can’t end it at season 2.. there was no conclusion

@garmatico I totally agree.
I don't know, it seems like many were expecting the umpteenth romantic comedy, and any development other than the romance is filler. I liked what the supporting characters brought to the table; in fact, I think they help Gojo stop seeing himself as a freak.

A nearly perfect complete episode. I loved everything I saw in this episode. The cosplay bits were great. Inui being such a great big sister to go along with the cosplay even though she hates everything horror. Great big sister move there. It was funny how everything was laughing through the blood scenes.

The back story and scenes with Akira worked so well and was relatable to an extent. Never give up on your dreams. It was heart warming to see how Marin is her best girl and she got to meet her. She cannot control her emotions around her. I do wish we got more interactions and delving more into her past though.

Then there were the bits about Marin and Gojo. It was great how they ended it here with a selfie. Everything from the reactions, animation, voice acting, setting and cosplay were so perfect.

The only thing now is to wait for the next season. With the manga being over, the wait shouldn't be as long this time. I loved this season and this anime.

Very nicely animated show, but 2.5 Dimensional Seduction was a better show compared to this season. Season 1 was magical, this one, not so much. Forgettable characters, glacier pace, and interactions that rival Rent-a-Girlfriend in cringe.
I hope if there's a S3, they get back to the hina doll shop and show Gojo the artist rather than a clueless, goober fan boy.

Oh look, someone needs a cosplay stitched, and guess who came back from the dead to do it... our good old simpleton drone, Gojou. And ofc the crossdressing weirdo is back too... like anyone actually cares. At this point, I feel like we’ve been doing nothing but a photoshoot for the last 3–4 episodes, or maybe my memory’s broken, because I can’t recall anything else. One thing I do remember: we were supposed to have a confession... wait, where is it? Oh right, this show doesn’t actually do romance. Almost as forgettable as the whole season, but hey, we move on.

Speaking of forgettable, who even are half these characters? Even outside of cosplay, the group dynamics are weak, not helped by the mediocre, boring supporting cast. It’s honestly baffling how, after all this, I still can’t tell who’s who... oh wait, that’s not my fault. And did I mention again that literally nothing happened? Oh, and miss crossdressing lady or whatever her name is, look at her, a hardcore, like really hardcore simp. So that makes her soooo cute, right? RIGHT???? Makes me wonder what was even the point of this character besides just adding another face to Marin’s endless queue of fangirls?

This season is actually horrendous and a baffling attempt at turning into a SOL. Newsflash show: to make a good SOL, you need good characters. I can’t even name one here, but hey, keep trying, because it’s clear you’re not putting any effort into the romance side. This and Takopii have really shown me how much people can be blinded by sakuga and flashy direction into thinking nothing-burger shows like these are good. Literally the definition of “carried by animation,” and I hate to even use that term.

This whole scene was absolutely pathetic lol. What a terrible way to end a season. They didn’t even tease a certain character at the end, so fingers crossed that means season three isn’t happening.
@IzanaSolos awfully lotta words for a person who doesn't like the anime and doesn't care about any of the characters. You must have zero friends to be this invested to hate on something.

Marin's phone RIP 🕯️ 🙏

So Marin has officially fallen in love with Gojou and now she cant even look at him without getting embarrassed.
Its a funny transition from how casually she treated her relationships with Gojou at first, she was just chilling before.

I really like that photoshoot.
It was very stylish and dark.
Marin's nun cosplay is just great, its actually my favorite Marin's cosplay but why were there so few of that?
I wish i could see a bit more of her in that outfit.
That black outfit, straight black hair, bright red lips—she is such a goth baddie.

And also with that Marin's typical genki personality, she looks amazing.
For some reason it reminded me of Ame-chan.

And that moment when Gojou cheerfully splashed blood on the table lol.
It all was so fun.

And they really made that transition from a plate of blood, chunks of flesh and an eye to a memory of her mother feeding her vegetables she doesnt like?
Stylish and funny at the same time.

Akira waifu.
"You see, Akira hate... doesnt like me."
"Eh?"
"Eh??"
"Eh???"

That was awesome.

Shy Akira is so cute.

And it turns out shes actually Marin's fangirl.
I had that thought but Akira seemed so cool and dark and it looked like she genuinely hates her that i decided there was something else going on...

I was really hoping Marin would confess at the end, but she didnt...
And there was perfect moment with beautiful sunset, but Marin still decided that friendship is more precious and more fun.
Well i think their relationships will go more romantic way from now.

And now the most important question thats been bothering me since i started (re-)watching this anime.

Its just me or is second season actually different from the first?
It has a completely different vibe.
I wasnt a big fan of first season and dropped the second one after first episode, but then i started watching again and now i love this anime.

I think second season is diffirent not like the first season.
It even feels like a different anime.

Or maybe its just me imagining it because its been a while since i watched first season.
Does anyone else have the same feeling?

I'd say the big different vibe from the two season could be because of two major things :

1) Mangaka didn't need to put fanservice as much as she used to at this point since the Manga started to become very popular around the time Volume 5 released (season 2 starts at Volume 6) so no risk of the Manga being axed anymore. She could finally focus on what she always wanted to draw (her main couple and ESPECIALLY cosplay) a lot of people wrongfully think the Mangaka of MDUD likes the fanservice but she hinted it was always something that was forced by her editors in the first place (the "they require panty shots" is a big hint) :

("Mandate of heaven/Haniel" is the final arc of the Manga and she said it's her fav because she could finally draw like she always wanted and this arc contain absolutely ZERO fanservice , hinting that the huge amount of fanservice around the first half of the Manga was never coming from her).

2) The assistant director for this season 2 of MDUD (Yusuke Yamamoto) is now the upcoming director for Bocchi the rock season 2 and was the assistant director of BTR season 1 , he gave Shinohara (the director of MDUD) "ton of ideas he would have never thought about" according to him , I assume him working that much on Bocchi The rock helped the team to find a lot of fun ideas since Bocchi is a very fun and creative show overall.

@Saizo32 generally i like fanservice in anime, but this situation is different.
If a mangaka wants to draw something but forced to draw fanservice, im against it.
Art should be free and if author wants to do what she want, thats her right.
But i also understand that sales are very important.
But i dont know if we really should blame fanservice. There was a lot of cosplay in the first season too and fanservice didnt really ruin that, right? Although i dont remember first season very well so maybe it was really fanservise fault.

The second fact seems more important to me: i had a feeling someone other was directing this anime, but i didnt look for information.
If that so then that explains everything.
But the funniest thing is that i dont like BTR, but secound season of bisque doll i liked.

Maybe i should give BTR a chance too?
Well, maybe someday.

To clarify , director for this season 2 is the exact same from season 1 (Keisuke Shinohara) only assistant director changed and like I said the new assistant director will be the actual director of the upcoming Bocchi The Rock season 2 and was very involved in the first one so it's obvious that he played a big part as to why the vibe changed.

To give more weight to my statement Shinohara did mention that Yusuke Yamamoto like I said, gave him a ton of ideas for season 2 :

I really liked this season, and this episode was no different. To me, it's clear that the show is actually building towards them becoming a couple so whether or not we get a third season their pairing is canon to me. I will probably do a rewatch of this show because of how infectious the enthusiasm of these characters can be. <3

Completely an utterly disappointed! I was looking forward to this 2nd season in the hope we would see more of the fantastic characters and interactions we were treated to in Season 1. But no! We got 12 episodes of "How to Cosplay" With no character development, no story progression, pretty much nothing!

I thought the 12th episode would somehow redeem this pile of crap with the payoff that was built up since episode 9. But again they piss all over anything good. No conclusion, no progression, just crap. Dont waste your time! Just treat season 1 as stand-alone and forget this season was ever released. It will be less painful.

Great ending to a great season.

Holy damn Akira went from an alright character to absolutely adorable and endearing. Will say this series has some very unique characters and everyones reactions to things are one of a kind. Its so funny and cute.

Its a shame Marin didnt confess at the end there but I'm very certain she will in the next season and Im just enjoying the ride with how good this series is. Cant wait for the next season.

Season 1 was 100% better in nearly every way, and everyone knows it. But this season introduced a character that a certain, mentally ill subset of people adore, as such it's rated higher, even if that character isn't actually what they claim he is. The same thing happened with that one 1 fighting game, where this subset of, very mentally ill "people" bullied the creators to such a point that they didn't bother to fight it anymore, and just agreed. But still only in the western version of the game. But these, extremely mentally ill ""people" will still proudly present that as a victory, failing to see how bad it make these, absurdly mentally ill """people""" look to everyone else. But their drug addled brains, CANNOT ever be wrong.

I personally like the character, I'm talking about. You can guess who I'm talking about.

Improvement in every way over season 1 to me. Much better story arcs and toning down the fanservice helped me enjoy the message this series is trying to get across more. Still not a massive fan, but this was really cute. I’m retiring from being a kisekoi hater, for now 🤣. Great job to Cloverworks for an amazing season.

Very nice finale that I think summed up everything this season was about. Ending on a group cosplay shoot after we’ve seen Gojo and Marin bring together this amazing set of people who all share the same interests and don’t judge one another is so sweet. The coolest part is, it’s not something they set out to do, they didn’t particularly recruit people, but when you have so much passion and love for your hobbies it’s just infectious and attracts people. I find that to be the case on a daily basis irl where I’m wearing an anime shirt, have an anime bag, or have some gundam crocs on and people will come up to me, talk, sub to my channel etc. It’s so cool being around people that are passionate.

Juju secretly hating scary/horror stuff is so relatable lol. The way she felt she HAD to go thru with it because of her little sister looking up to her is so freaking cute though. Imagine having a sister that good.

Akira and Marin FINALLY having a proper conversation and Akira admitting she’s just a massive Marin stan is one of the best moments in the whole series imo. Such a cute moment and it felt like Akira was letting not just that out, but also the trauma of having to suppress her interests from her parents. Seeing Marin accept her passion and reciprocate it meant so much to her. “No one’s ever called me their oshi before” oh Marin if only you could see your real world fandom lol

NOO NOT MARIN DROPPING THE PHONE AFTER FINALLY GETTING A SELFIE WITH GOJO 😭 we didn’t get our confession, but Marin and Gojo took steps forward together and individually this season and that’s all you can ask for. They’ll get there eventually. Such a cute season, I enjoyed it a lot!

I agree with everything you said! ദ്ദി´ ˘ `)✧

Nice - as the first season. Did not really feel like a last episode though. I thought there'd be one more. But I guess it is okay to end it on the scene in front of the door watching the sun there.

Noooo... the confession, where is it? It was lovely seeing Marin's feelings ramp up throughout the season, but it would have been better to end on the confession as a cliffhanger. Oh well, let's hope S3 is sooner rather than later.

Btw, absolutely lovely animation, especially that episode where Marin got her camera.

Didn't like this season as much as the first. Why? Two reasons - 1. To much Cosplay 2. Almost zero romance

Man I give a f**k about cosplaying i don't care. I'm here for the romance and for nothing else. Season 3 would be nice but i heard from Manga Readers that the romance part is getting more worse then it's alteady, so my expections are not high if a 3rd season happens. It's a shame i really loved every damn Episode in season 1.

What a nothing burger of season. Every conflict was fucking shallow nothingness, and second half was just atrocious with embarrassingly written characters and arcs. The only even remotely decent character from the season was Amane in the first half, and this shitty "I can't stand Marin because I love her" is... just fuck off... 3/10

this is what you call a high budget high quality adaptation

Top notch animation, design, OP/ED, OST, etc. There were a few times when the plot and pace could have been better, but still I loved it

@Youre_boyIruma

If a Manga reader told you that the romance part is getting worse in a potential season 3 this was the biggest lie of all time I'm not even kidding lmao , don't believe everything you read/hear, MDUD's romance peaks right after the coffin arc during the final cosplay arc but of course they had to end this season right before it could start...

watched it last night. Didn’t feel good afterwords.
when I watched the dangers in my heart season 2 finale, I was happy for the ending and satisfied.
Season 1 had me wanting more, but season 2 wasn’t enough.

The coffin cosplay was great! I loved how MArin was trying to build up her courage to tell Wakana she loves him....

Perfectionism. Absolute perfectionism. The energy, the imagery, the reveal of how Akira really feels about Marin, the shots of Gojo having fun partaking in the group photoshoot...

...all elements came together and the season had a well earned finale. Love that Akira is basically the audience surrogate for the ones who fell head over heels for Marin back in S1 and that cathartic moment with all her hinted background was a pure shot of serotonin.
