Battle was good and all. But how convenient that priestess accidentally summoned former ruler which decided to kill the witch for them and prepared Raphtalia to be the arbiter. Come on writers, really? No tough decisions for our heroes, almost no struggle. You don't write story like that. So what this yet another side quest was for? |

Well, this episode was... something. Let's ignore a bit the little to no context we got last episode. It does seem like the 3rd version of Raphtalia really is the previous Heavenly Emperor, that was probably tired of just watching Naofumi and the others not finishing this arc once and for all, so she took that task for herself, and literally killed Makina and a bunch of warriors that were by her side. Now, that was a turn of events. Then Makina transforms into a ghost, does something, and then the Heavenly Emperor kills her once and for all. For some reason the previous Heavenly Emperor then goes "you know about your friend, if Raphtalia doesn't win a fight against me she's dead". And so Raphtalia battles her. When the Battle started, with the opening as the OST and everything, honestly, it was quite good, even animation wise. Then the opening ends, and the battle still isn't nowhere of ending. Then Raphtalia just continues to talk about powers that either were not explained properly in the earlier seasons, or are outright new. Then she gets a bunch of powerups and wins the battle. Ahmm, like, what was all that? I don't know if they skipped stuff from the light novel, or if it's just the consequences of those 2nd and 3rd seasons, but this whole segment was questionable. And just like that, this arc ends. I honestly found it funny how this arc just ended because the previous Emperor decided to randomly appear and kill Makina. They never really ended up explaining why the Emperor that was in functions did everything that Makina wanted, but ok I guess, at this point I'm used that the plot of this anime isn't the most solid thing ever. Right after the conclusion of this arc, they literally jump to Motoyasu just being completely delusional, and killing Malty cold-blooded. Like, that was harsh and unexpectedly violent, but it is true that this character had to face the consequences of her actions. But obviously they bring the souls things, that were supposed to be explained in season 2, were shown in season 3, but never explained, and now here they are again. And of course he didn't destroy her soul, so y'all know what that means: Malty is making an appearance in season 5. To end the season they just show the characters going back to the village, nothing too special. At this point, the characters aren't that interesting, considering they are barely explored. There are characters from the main group that never interacted with each other, and it seems that isn't changing. But right before the episode ended, the anime confirms there will be a 5th season for this show, and actually reveals a bit of what's to come, and I'm actually shocked they basically just revealed a character from Naofumi's party is going to die next season. They really went "Please don't give up and watch the next season, someone's dying". Someone told me that Naofumi would be getting a lot of development next season, and that shows! I think this is the first time a character from the main group dies ever since Ost in season 2 (and let's be honest, Ost didn't have that much impact on the story to begin with, at least not in the anime version). I suppose Raphtalia and Filo are safe. I doubt it's one of the tiger siblings too (or did they just give Fohl all this character development, one of the few to have this privilege, and kill him off). So I'm curious to see who's going to be. Maybe Sadeena? Or maybe it's just a random side character and they are just baiting us. So, overall, this season was a bit inconsistent. The first arc (around the first 6 episodes) was really solid in my opinion. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I found this arc good (not amazing), and finally brought back a lot of the feeling the 1st season had, with proper introduction of the setting, important character development and a well told story. This 2nd arc, the Q'ten Lo one, started off well, but then they just started to rush things off again, didn't explain properly a bunch of stuff either, and the whole resolution for this arc was poor, which was much more in line to what season 3 did. The difference is that season 3, overall, had a more interesting and promising story (even if it was butchered). So overall, I ended up disappointed with this season, considering it had such a good start, but rapidly turned into the same mess season 3 was (season 2 is on a different tier by the way, that was even worse). It's sad, because I feel like the Light Novel is actually much better, even if it isn't as good as it was in the beginning, I feel like it's still quite enjoyable, considering what Light Novel readers say. So I'm giving this season 4 of Tate no Yuusha a 6 out of 10. It was good at the start, but it lost itself midway. That said, I will be watching the 5th season, now I want to know who dies. Edit: Watched the teaser for the 5th season again, and noticed that we can actually see the shoulder of the body Naofumi is holding. And there aren't many characters that have outfits that show the shoulders. So maybe I take my comment back on it not being one of the tiger siblings... Also, just remembered that Naofumi as some business with Fitoria too, maybe she'll have a role in this arc too. Formatting Issues. |

What was that ? Nothing make fucking sens in this bullshit end rushed, no explanation for nothing, boring as fuck fight, stupid actions, Raftalia goes for empress but still ask every fucking time "eww Naofomi-san can if fight plsssss?", this later full useless, not even supportive or smth, juts hng ? yes! hooo <stupid unasked plot armor explanation> Bad emperor mentor, villain of the season, killed off-screen, but no she can inhabit the stupid orca girl's body, but it's a ghost so Raftalia can fight her, but no again it's the old lady who beat her, so completely useless why not JUST killing her off-screen, establishing the strength of the old empress? Non-nonsensical fight with her right after, no explanation, while it can be easily be made a clear challenge by her, like "i cleared the head of nation from the problem (besides, why now ? what you doing before?), so if you want the place beat me/prove me you're worthy" The the fucking stupid yeah yeah we killed the emperor for rebels but it's fake, like it's normal when they were not hinted once before that he was a fucking child to just scold him like he had any info or liberty to take decision. Fucking buy some balls, RAftalia is the fucking empress, just announce his surrender and imposes that you'll raise him as co-emperror for while you'll have to fight waves and all, or something else but not this stupid shit Very horrible ending. Make it the worst season so far for me, and probably the last because i just randomly gave it a chance that as been thrown after a not so bad start |

it was alr. pacing was ass. plot felt pretty stale and the entire thing with the old emperor just came out of nowhere and felt kinda forced to clean the whole thing up easily. the fight was cool tho with great animation. why the fuck couldn't that fuckass whore die. decent season but quite underwhelming with how it could have been. pacing was bad and animation was mostly bad besides a few very well animated fight scenes. slightly better than 2 and 3 hopefully 5 will continue the trend of getting a little better each time and be a good season. |

The first half had a ton of Atla so that already made it a good season for me and lol, they just unceremoniously killed Malty like that but ofc it wasn't going to be that simple, I'm glad we got confirmation of S5 right away. |

As some have said, this 4th season is more like 3.5° or even 3B, it didn't advance at all, weak and rushed plots, it just wasn't worse than the second season. Again reinforcement, we are in the fourth season and it's time to move forward in the plot, as an anime no one is obliged to know about the light novel, but those who watched the previous three feel that there was no progress in the story. |

The fight between the holy emperors was cool as fuck they really did a stellar job on the animation. It made sense that the past holy emperor was holding back because of her limitations possessing a new body. No way would Raphtalia be able to beat her, thank God for that explanation. I was also not expecting Raphtalia to legit become the new holy emperor either. Naofumi is going to have his hand in a lot of political pies by the end of this series. Wow was not expecting Myne to be be speared in the face by Motoyatsu. Holy Shit, no build up to that at all, just one last fuck you to her. Cool to see his circle of conrads has grow over the seasons. For once since season 1 I look forward to the new season instead of being hesitant about it. I would have loved for this season to have a few more episodes to even out the pacing a bit towards the end here. However they did the best job they could with how many episodes they we're given. Look at that we're finally getting to the Pheonix arc, it took two fucking seasons for them to do it but where here. Once again can't wait for season 5. As for this season its a solid 7/10. Some bumps here and there but they did the best they could and actually surprised me. |

This entire season has been a random mess of poorly woven story elements that when spear dude just randomly slaughtered bitch I was actually stoked for the first time in 3 seasons, but they had to ruin it with more cliches. A major antagonist randomly killing another major antagonist out of nowhere would have been insane, but noooo her finger twitched so she still alive. Why even show that then? |

My updated season rankings.
Let's be honest, I know you had fun this season, We're not back by any means. Obviously alot of it felt like filler and we didn't even get a glimpse of the wave timer.. But after that dumpsterfire in Siltvelt lead by that mutant, zebra-striped, tigroid tramp ATLA, Q'ten lo actually saved the season. I'm actually looking forward to S5. I also love how Naofumi has just embraced the Pokemon Trainer Fighting style he barely ever graced the frontlines, chucking out full heals, mega stones for intra-fight evolutions it was a blast! I'd say his gang closely resembles a pokemon team like this Charizard(Gaelion), Kyogre(Sadeena), Pidgeot(Filo), Ninetales/Delphox(Raphtalia), 2 shiny Zeraoras(Racoon twins). He might be getting a 2nd Kyogre by the looks of it... You're all here, we are very much in deep. It's still entertaining lets just ride it out. Yeah the writing isn't as great as we hoped but at least motoyasu finally murdered that bitch at the end right? If you want more of my thoughts i've got a Review right here on MAL |

Solid finale, idc what anyone says, Shield Hero will always have a special place in my heart as my 2nd ever LN series. Seeing it get 5 seasons is mind blowing though, unprecedented for an Isekai series, but I’ll take it because peak shield hero hasn’t even been adapted yet. Next season is going to be an emotional roller coaster that I’m not ready for π let the haters hate!
The way you can tell Kinema are massive raphtalia stans because they put 90 percent of this season’s budget into Raphtalia’s fight with the previous emperor lol. Longest and most well done fight we’ve had in a long while in this series, really cool to see Raphtalia access the hero menu as well! Oh and seeing Makina get packed up in arguably the single best animated scene of the season is fitting because she was the biggest bitch, more on that later.
Raphtalia and Naofumi are going to have their hands full managing the village, two kingdoms, being heroes, fighting dimensional threats, etc. I would NOT want to be them at all lol. Luckily they have an amazing support system around them and keep recruiting powerful allies.
THAT ENDING WE ALL CHEERED! But Motoyasu not destroying bitch’s soul is a huge oversight lmao. An evil bitch like that is fuelled by hatred, they don’t go down easily. She’s already recovering from that attack. But it’s funny seeing someone who was so wrapped around her finger being the one to impale her.
Overall, I liked this slightly less than season 3, but MAL doesn’t allow decimal ratings so I’ll just keep them both at 8s. First half had my Atla focus so that was really good, obviously season 3 introduced her as well so I liked both for that reason lol. I’m not a big Raphtalia guy tho so the Q’ten Lo stuff was meh for me. It’s always cool to see different parts of this world though and have the characters grow, so it did that introduced Shildina. I’m hype and not hype for the Phoenix arc at the same time IYKYK.

It is so stupid that the last part of the season lack context (which give this rushed impression), when the first part is so slow and take way too much space.. Fights were ok but it felt like something was missing, no hype, already knew what the outcome will be etc.. We are very far away from season 1. This series is a textbook of mistakes to avoid after early success. |

The first half was watchable and turned to a flaming pile of dogshit again in the 2nd half. I can't wait to watch Season 5. |

That was...pretty bad. Anticlimactic, rushed, with plot threads handwaved and others ignored - what happened to the army? What kind of character is the boy emperor? Why are we supposed to care about the former emperor Raphtalia? I knew exactly what was going to happen as soon as a duel was mentioned. And that's not even talking about the poor animation quality. Honestly I expected better, but after S2 maybe I shouldn't have. Side note, did Motoyasu just kill the princess? Why was she a pig in his view, did I forget something? Is this dude getting super corrupted or what? |

The rising of the shield hero's party is great but can we get back to just the rising of the shield hero ? It's cool and everything but I feel like we've lost the plot. I was hyped by some episodes but honestly, this season passed through me and I didn't even care what was going on ... Will still watch S5, hoping it'll be any good. |

Season 2 and 3 were boring but this season made the series interesting again. What happened to the Filo queen request, Naofumi just ignore it lol. No explanation about last scene with Motoyasu and the bitch? Sad that only 1 Shield Prison used this season. Overall pretty good, I hope season 5 will be like this season too. |

Naofumi's group drowning in side-quests for twelve episodes while Lolicon Hero is out there doing the important tasks. Well... partially doing them. Underwhelming finale that featured some instances of good animation to cover up for the flaws of it. Makina was a laughable villain, Shildina being suddenly possessed by a prior Emperor came out of nowhere and the constant recitation of unknown abilities/techniques between Raphtalia and the prior Emperor had me confused during the entire battle. Like, was I supposed to know Raphtalia already knew all these techniques? Anyways, it was another awful season of Shield Hero for me. Slightly more bearable than S3 but still barely enjoyable given its atrocious sense of pacing and boring arcs filled with shallow characters. Siltvelt Arc was unnecessarily long while Q’ten Lo Arc needed more episodes for a proper development, both Jaralis and Makina were poorly handled villains, the political approach in both arcs felt rather superficial, new characters introduced were forgettable, Naofumi aka the freaking protagonist became a side-character throughout the entire season while Raphtalia got sidelined hard even during her own arc, etc, etc. 3/10 - Seriously, screw these side-quests. I want my Waves back! |

This episode was very good although I feel that for the final fight they would have kept the opening I needed to listen to the openig often and Raphtalia's fight was impressive it looked like a Naruto fight along with Kimetsu no Yaiba it was incredible, I didn't have much faith in the season but the last arc was very good, I will wait for its fifth season |

This season was really weak, what carried this ep was the animation |

Best episode of the season and since 2019. It was enjoyable, animation, backgrounds, colorful highlights. The fight scenes kept my focus. The overall story is a bit weak, but this arc kept me interested. I did get sick two weeks ago so fell behind by 2 episodes, but caught up on them on Monday. And the finale just now. The rush for season 5 surprised me too, as I thought this season still had more to give, more episodes. Suppose I'm not as used to 12 episodes formats, prefer 24. Did see a spoiler, was surprised though in the credits sequence, spear hero was rather bloodthirsty, and the family members could be upset over this. The revenge arc was over and unless malty was makima, this wasn't clarified, he may have just murdered her. I find it hard to believe malty could just take over that kingdom, and have a second body, and a souls in multiple places at one time. |

What specific reason was Malty killed for? In S1 she was doing attempted murders and schemes, but got punished with a trial and crest. S2 I canot remember, don't think she was active. S3 she had broken the crest, and thus violated her punishment, and was manipulating the heroes into being depressed. I don't think she had killed anyone. S4 showed Malty in the OPs, but she was nowhere to be seen in the season at all, until finale credits. Was she controlling Makima somehow? @Aleksu "I didn't even realized it's the final episode until I saw there's no more "Airing" in my list." Me too, until all the season 5 announcement made me realize it was over. @Alex_the_reaper Now she'll be kinda justified in causing trouble since she was murdered in cold blood tho. |

Bruh, this show is so silly… they treat becoming an Emperor like it’s just a status update. Wtf is this writing "Ptsh… I guess I’ll become an Emperor π" "Status updated to Emperor... Moving on now." |

Finally it’s over. Gotta say the first half of this season was great but the latter half got boring so fast. I was going to drop the series for good but the teaser for season 5 peaked my interest. |

yup, makina got pulverized, but her spirit was too stubborn, she had to make it harder for her to disappear. motayasu killed bitch/trash, that was her, right? but looks like she ain't gonna fall down. something about him saying about not breaking her soul/spirit sounds foreboding, but i guess that'll be a problem for them to figure out next season. and looks like he was able to raise filolials too all for his love for filo lol preview for 5th season looks intense and heavy. i wonder whose blood was it that splashed on naofumi's face and why did he look like he was in deep grief? |

I feel this anime went from having a plot direction to just drive the entire thing off the cliff. Season 3 and 4 has just felt like filler animes waiting for new waves... |

The Fohl royalty arc was cool, the animation for his fight was actually pretty good. Idk about this whole Q’ten Lo arc tho, felt like it needed to be another couple eps longer since a lot of character arcs felt rushed and that whole Makina fight was over in a flash. Seeing a lot of people say S5 is the best arc since S1 so I’m hoping that’s good. That post credits scene has me hooked, I wonder who “dies”? |

Such a lame ass fight, and they put the opening in the background when the fucking song doesn't even fit the scene πππ That evil Raphtalia looking bitch was so annoying too lmao she wouldn't shut the fuck up for 3 seconds. My God, this show sinks further and further, it's so sad, the way the plot started ok but went full trash mode since the 2nd season, and the animation quality too. 2 and a half seasons and we still don't see them fight that damn phoenix btw. REMOVE NAOFUMI AND HIS PARTY, MAKE MOTOYASU THE PROTAGONIST, THE ABSOLUTE GOAT, FUUUUUUCK HIS SCENE WAS PEAK!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly he is the only reason to keep watching this show in the next season, I want to know what whill happend with him. What's that? Someone from Naofumi's party will die? I doubt it will, and if it doesn't who gives a fuck, Motoyasu should just kill everyone at this point lmao |
Sorry if my english is bad (γ£Λβ½Λ)γ£~~~ Btw, cry about it. |

@Alex_the_reaper i knooow! xD as much as we all loved the fact motoyatsu speared bitch-chan (funny as it is that his stats screen for her showed red pig and who knows if we'll get that explanation in s5), we all know it's going to bite him in the ass later. he's all "whoops! i forgot to get rid of her soul! i'll do it later if i remember!" that big dummy. |
