Lastly, I still don't know how Shouko was just having fun at the beach, is she still sick? If yes, erasing everyone's memory accomplished nothing because she's still sick and about to die soon.

This took everything I enjoyed about the TV series and cranked it up. The focus on Shouko was exactly what I wanted and setting it around Christmas is getting me in the mood - though not like Sakuta when Mai steps on him. I'm still trying to process everything that happened, but my main summary is that this was one round-a-bout way to save everyone. One particular point about the ending that really gets me is how despite losing their memories of Shouko, Mai & Sakuta still acted instinctively on the dormant feelings left behind. By giving up on a shortcut to save Shouko, they inadvertently take the long way around to giving her a future.

I'm still emotional about Kaede's personality overwrite from the end of the TV series, so I'm hoping the next movie will deliver on my personal best girl.

Just watched it, and we got to know who the college-aged Shouko-san is.

At first, it felt similar to Futaba's Puberty Syndrome, until the bombshell dropped that

Some scenes felt flat but it recovered to a good ending.

For example, when

The drama got real when

I know some were confused, but it's a good thing I have read about transurfing and the idea of different life lines and alternative scenarios.

This movie could've ended tragically, but good thing we get

Yeah, I feel extremely sad right now.

I haven't watch this since quarantine so re-watching it now just hurts more. Very emotional but it works very well.

I feel like reading the light novel now, so I'm going to do that.

Such an emotional follow up to the season that it really got me a bunch of times. Everything happening around Shouko and Sakuta's puberty syndrome which were left out from before finally got explain... though in quite the complicated way. Indeed, there are a bunch of timeskips, that can really confuse the viewere considering how much everyone wanted to save the other person at the expense of their own life, resulting in so much sadness mostly coming from Sakuta himself. In the end we got the good ending and everything sacrified was well worth it.

All in all, the movie met my expectations and delivered where it should have but didn't go way past them. Both in presentation and soundtrack it was basically the same as the main series and the side characters while accompaining the scenes didn't end up fulfilling that major of a role compared to the main trio. That isn't to say that I didn't enjoy, far from it, but maybe they could have leaned a bit more on them. Just a thought.

It had me eyes all watery at the end.

Inori Minase killed it as both the confident young adult and the struggling little girl.

It maintains the same production values from the anime series. I guess as both money saving decision and a familiarity decision as to not break the immersion on the aesthetic.

Maybe I am the only one, but I liked the movie better than the series. It was a great movie, but very hard to follow the plot. A thorough explanation helped. A great emotional rollercoaster movie. I am glad Shouko-chan survived in the end. It could gone much worse. The day was saved With help from her first love and his girlfriend.

This had more romance than the whole first season. Sakuta and Shouko both helped each other get through their worst moments, damn that was wholesome.

And, Mai sama has clearly earned her best waifu status.

Glad Mai-san is all right coz I totally would have started WW4 if anything happened to her.

Plot was kinda weak for me but it's all right since Saukuta and Mai's relationship was doing the carrying for me.

Just like the anime, it has some bullshit plot that makes no sense to me trying to explain it with some "science".
Although it bothers me, it makes an interesting drama that made me enjoy watching it through the end.
Everything else is good, like animation and sound, so it was a good movie. I liked it, just have to not think hard about the plot xD

What a ride on the emotional roller-coaster huh, after the first session of bunny girl senpai, this sequel movie hit me like a train with those non-stop sadness. Those 4 days after mai-san dying literally makes sakuta looks like some kind of miserable walking corpse, considering how incredibly depressed sakuta was because of mai-san dying, I can't imagine the other way around outcome reaction would be from mai-san if sakuta were the one to die since she loves sakuta the most. After watching the the main series and this sequel movie, I gotta say these couple needs a long break like some kind of vacation especially for sakuta, dude has been went through so much, I genuinely feel bad for him(T_T). Well that aside this was a great movie and the ending was pretty satisfactory. Sakuta and shoko meet each other again in beach, a happy ending is well deserved for our boy sakuta. Definitely masterpiece for me. 10/10

Shouko's situation was definitely a heart wrenching one. That moment where Sakuta couldn't save anyone and everything hit rock bottom was super depressing. But through quantum mechanics, help from his friends, and the selfless nature of everyone in this story we got the best ending. I enjoyed watching this film!

This was a very nice movie, truly one that makes you think, with all the past-present-future-superfuture timelines.

So many timelines, a true-thinker.

I also enjoyed the early comedy scenes of Adult Shouko flirting with Sakuta and making Mai jealous.

And they finally gave some important scene to Tomoe; she has basically been forgotten after her arc was over.

Off to movie-2, which is about "real" Kaede and her handling of her new life.

I somehow timed this to the exact day it came out 6 years ago, I’m good at that for some reason lol. But, I hate to say it, the movie was not as good as the TV show. I did really enjoy it, it’s around an 8/10 for me, it had a lot of great moments and some really good drama, but there were just a few too many things that kinda rubbed me the wrong way.

The biggest one for me is that the time travel is very loose and not well explained, I get it involves dreams and whatnot but it just felt weird for Sakuta to be able to go back to the past just by going to sleep, he didn’t have to do anything special, just kick ‘er back and head on to dreamland lol, it just felt too convenient for my liking. Another thing I wasn’t a big fan of is the ending, like I’m glad it’s happy and all, I didn’t want Shoko to die, but the fact she simply redid everything and is suddenly okay now just felt, once again, too convenient. Thankfully I have MAL to inform me on how she’s even okay at all, and it’s apparently because that movie Mai was in spread awareness and got Shoko a heart from someone else, and that’s great and all, but what that doesn’t explain is how everything played out in a way for Sakuta to end up at the same school and meet all the same people again. Wasn’t Shoko’s future version supposed to be a key element of Sakuta getting over what happened with Kaede, and why he even went to that school? There could be something I’m not getting but it’s another one of those things that could have been better explained.

All the negative out of the way tho, this was still a very good film, I like that it answered some big questions that were left from the TV show, being what the hell is going on with Shoko and what is up with Sakuta’s scar on his chest, I’m very satisfied on these fronts. It also featured some nice callbacks, like the way Sakuta was even able to be confirmed as existing when he went back in time was from the ass kicking he and Tomoe did, I guess you can’t say Tomoe became irrelevant after her arc now lol, and I also liked that it came full circle with Sakuta being in a goofy rabbit costume while no one could see him, very much like Mai in her bunny girl outfit at the start of the series. I also want to mention the drama with Mai getting killed was well done, I knew there had to be more twists once everything with Shoko was out in the open but nothing can prepare you for the cute flagship waifu actually dying, of course I figured she would come back somehow but it’s still a very rough sight to see. And lastly, I really liked Shoko in this movie, she had some great moments with Sakuta with both the fun sized and adult versions of her, and her casually dropping that she just grows up sometimes felt like such a disappointment of an answer for what she is, but the later reveal that she’s from the future was a very cool twist, and hey even if I think the ending wasn’t as good as it could have been, I’m very glad she lived and that there was a future where she can carry on, hopefully this isn’t the last we see of her after all that was done to keep her around.

And with that, I have finally seen the first Seishun Buta/Rascal movie, honestly the fact it came out in 2019 means it wasn’t that far from when I originally watched it, I really shoulda checked it out sooner lol, but the important thing is I watched it now. It feels a bit surreal to have at long last witnessed what lies beyond the TV show but it is a good feeling at the same time. The train doesn’t stop tho, I got two more movies to go and I’ll be ready for the new season, I’m excited to see what else was cooked up from here.

I thought seeing Sakuta break down when Kaede was cured of her Adolescence Syndrome was rough but Mai desperately showcasing how much she truly cares for him was something else, and while I wish I could say that alone should've made it a no-brainer for which version of Christmas Eve was the 'right' choice, I can't blame him for not wanting to save Shouko either. And on top of that still, I wasn't prepared for Futaba's heartfelt relief from him being okay in the end. All outcomes truly came with their own flavors of pain and sampling all of them sure was an experience.

Also, using Nodoka's hair as an example of a "tryhard style" is easily one of Sakuta's best lines LOL

It's a slippery slope when a story involves time travel cause it's very easy for it to get to complicated and convoluted. This movie was a lot for me to wrap my head around but it had lots of great feels so i still really enjoyed it.

I never cried over a movie or anime in any situation but this got me off-guard. I actually cried for what happened to Mai-san, and again when I saw how Sakuta solved that issue, and I can't believe it myself. The plot twists in this one were amazing.

Essa e outras coisas eu ainda to tentando compreender.

This was a mess in so many ways.

The plot was overcomplicated and much too fast. I wonder if this would've worked better as a show, not a movie. I like time travel stories okay, but this one really struggled to make sense, let alone explain itself clearly. So much hand-waving and cliff-notes writing. And it's not like it had time to explain itself anyway.

The emotional side of the story was dead-in-the-water. None of the 3 main characters really made sense, and I no longer cared about them by the end of the movie. The whole "I'm sacrificing myself / no I'M sacrificing myself" pushing-and-pulling stank of melodramatic writing, sloppily manufactured to make people cry and root for the characters. It had the opposite effect.

I liked that the movie tackled the question of weighing one life against the other and making the unthinkable choice, but the whole set-up was very contrived, and it didn't matter in the end anyway as everyone got to have their cake and eat it too. It also mumbled something about the fear and uncertainty for the future, but I couldn't quite catch what it was trying to say.

The side characters had nothing to do and just made cameo appearances, likely to please fans. The visuals and the music were pretty ordinary, they felt the same as Season 1.

All-in-all, very surprised by the massively-positive reaction. This enters the "Not Recommended" territory for me. I thought it was weird how my enthusiasm for this series died right after I was done watching Season 1 (and enjoying it, too), but I'm now thinking maybe the series was never that good in the first place...

This soft retconned entire first season and Sakuta spends half the runtime suicidal not even caring about loved ones even after so many requests of Mai san. Wasn't really a fan of that.

Plot is way too complicated compared to anything before. Time travel isn't something tobbe handled this lightly. Shoko created a huge mess which I don't even probably fully understand. She was intresting character but I expected better from this.
Last scene in the leaves thing more positive note for me.

Koga best girl. She literally saved his ass there.

Hopefully the Kaede movie would be better..

I just stumbled across this series today & binged all of S1 + this movie. I really liked it, but I really don't understand the ending. How did Sakuta recognize Shouko?

Yeah, it sounds like a lot of people didn't quite get it, but I also got confused about his whole final plan to save her (and scrap his relationship with Mai) in the first the place.

He just went back in time to stop himself from letting her die, all with the mentality that he'd have to let Shouko die, only to then immediately decide he's fine with erasing his entire history & all his memories of Mai if it means saving Shouko?!

Just because they believe positive thoughts & optimism will bring them together & have them fall in love again? No, they only met up in the first place due to freak circumstances putting her in his orbit. Expecting it to just work out again is asinine.

Thankfully, Shouko spared us of that stupidity, but even the thought of it bothers me.

Then you have the whole "we're not in the present, we're in the future, and can save the present by going to the past!" nonsense... How is their timeline not the present? It seemed like a huge stretch & convoluted thinking.
