Actually a bit disappointed in Gachiakuta ep 1, not because it was bad at all and can be likely top 3 in a different season, it just didn't stand out good in comparison to the other shows this season story or animation wise so far. Hoping for it not to get buried though since this is the most stacked season in probably a decade.
@Anon7524 I think this was good for a first episode, however, Bones could have done a 45 minutes episodes in order to give us more...

At the beginning, when the chase scene starts, and the J-Pop/J-Rap music kicks in out of nowhere, trying to convey hype and edginess,
it gave me chills of cringe, I couldn't go further than that.

I especially liked the world building here. The metaphor between the trash, useless things and people that are thrown to the abyss was very interesting, as well as the characters.

I didn't like the music at the end, tho (don't know if it was the OP or the ED).

Yall are overreacting waay too much on the use of cgi in the first ep. Animating giant monsters on that scale would be a difficult feat, especially if multiple of them are going to be animated. I don't even think the cgi looks that bad-if you want bad cgi look up clips from 2016 berserk...

Genuinely kind of a 'very okay' episode in my opinion. But I heard it gets a lot better from here, so I'm looking forward to that. I guess my critique is because it had the same emotional / plot beats I've seen in other works like Vinland Saga, Monster, and Banana Fish, but it's all condensed into just one episode so I was just like... okay, I've seen this plot point handled much better before.

Haven't read the manga, so this is all just my first impressions. I like the main character (Rudo) so far. Will keep up with this one as it releases

It was alright, but kinda feels like a lot of other things I've already seen before hodgepodged together. Pretty standard dystopian class struggle revenge plot, hopefully it'll grow into more of it's own thing as it goes on

This anime appears to be based on a popular manga, which is why it has a large fan base and high ratings. However, as an anime viewer, I haven't found anything exciting about it. Visually, I can't judge it because I haven't seen its full potential. There are 3D animations, such as sewage, trash, and trash monsters, which I think are quite well-animated (so far). I hope the 3D animation quality doesn't decline in future episodes.

Plot-wise, I quite enjoyed this first episode. Although it was more of an introduction, I enjoyed the interactions between the characters, especially the main character and her adoptive father; I found them very wholesome. I also developed a crush on the female character the main character had a crush on, but unfortunately, she didn't trust him. So now I don't have any other characters I want to follow besides the main character.

That's it for now, because I really don't have anything else to discuss. I think the main character's main enemy for this season is the masked man who killed her adoptive father. And perhaps by the second season, we'll see the main character clean up after those baseless scum, and then his final mission will be to eliminate those self-righteous elites.

Finally starting. The world is definitely very interesting, and I'm already intrigued. The few cute moments were cute. And, looks like Rudo will take his revenge on these guys for framing him into this mess. He's been sent to the Pit. But, looks like there's much more to this going forward. Chiwa...believe him. NOOOO. The art style is cool as well.

The art style is really cool it reminds me a bit of Tokyo Revengers, though only slightly. The characters hairstyles also look incredibly stylish. The concept of heaven, nobility, hell, and poor people isn’t exactly new, but it still serves as a great way to kick off the world building. I really enjoyed the first episode.
But that girl… she’s honestly kind of an idiot.

Never read the manga, but holy shit the amount of exposition dialogue in this first episode was fucking ridiculous!! Literally 90% of all the dialogue was characters explaining shit to each other that they definitely already know, it was so stupid!

Very good first episode! Made in Abyss is one of my favourite series' so the premise of "weird crap world where weirdos collect trash and there's a big bottomless hole" is immediately appealing to me. Its been a long-ass time since I enjoyed a BONES series too but I've never gotten sick of their animation style. I've got decent hopes for this one.

my first anime of the season let's go, it starts well the episode was not bad, the difference between poor and rich, the contrast of neighborhoods is deja vu but I like it

the way the events unfolded is pretty classic, but I can't wait to see what happens next. I love revenge and want to know more about this universe and its characters.

there's a touch of Deadman Wonderland

First episode leaked.

Didn't get your fill of shounen slop with Fire Force last season? Well don't worry, something even worse has you covered this season, from an assistant of Fire Force, no less! It's pretty obvious right off the bat as well lol. Like literally, Rudo is just an edgier version of Shinra. In fact, this whole thing feels like a more try-hard Fire Force overall. The art style and direction turned up by ten and thus make them absolutely vomit-worthy. I get why people like the manga to some extent. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the art there rocks…

…but here? God, everything about the visuals just makes me want to peel my eyes out. Anyway, the whole final scene with Rudo’s sensei or whatever getting killed, and him getting framed and sent to “the pit,” ends with him dropping such a “TufF and AurA liNE” as he falls... like come on. And sheeesh, that pit must really be garbage, because the CGI we saw at the end was 100% GARBAGE. SO yeah, it's a revenge story. Greaattttt. Don't have enough of those do we.

Seriously, even as someone who doesn't like the manga either, just read it over.. whatever this is. Bones really has lost any type of sauce they used to have.

And guess what the only positive thing about this episode was, yeah, not even something visual. Nope, it was the OP song playing at the end. Not just because it meant the episode was finally over, but because damn man, that song is a straight-up BANGER.
@IzanaSolos Alright, I get that not everything is for everyone, but calling it"shounen slop" right out of the gate just feels lazy. Yeah, it shares some similarites with Fire Force, which makes sense considering the creator worked under Ohkubo, but dismissing it entirely because of that is like writing off Black clover for having Naruto-like elements. Shared influences aren’t the same as copy-pasting.

As for Rudo being just “an edgier Shinra,” I don’t really see it. Rudo’s got more raw emotion, more instability, more rage behind his story.(arguably) His situation is rough from the start. He's not some polished hero with a flashy power-up. He’s a kid who got framed and thrown into a literal pit of garbage. That’s not edgy, it’s kinda sad. And his attitude fits the world perfectly. It's not about being "cool" nor having "aura", it's about survival and anger, which are core to the story.

Now, the visuals. Look, if you don’t like the art style, fair enough, but calling it “vomit-worthy”? Come on. The animation is intense, rough around the edges in places, but it feels like part of the world they’re building. Gritty, overwhelming, chaotic, because that’s what the world of Gachiakuta is supposed to be. The designs are bold, the direction is energetic, and even if the CGI at the end wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t nearly the disaster you're making it out to be.

And that scene at the end where Rudo gets framed and falls into the pit? You laughed at his final line, but to me, that moment actually hit. He just lost the one person who believed in him, got betrayed, and thrown away like trash. Him lashing out with a defiant line as he falls isn’t cringe, it’s emotional and shows the despair and sense of inability to do something that he was feeling in that moment.

And honestly, while it starts with a revenge setup, Gachiakuta doesn’t stay there. As the story progresses, it moves beyond personal payback and starts exploring ideas like justice, redemption, class divide, environmental decay, and how people rebuild identity when they’ve been thrown away. It’s a broader and more thoughtful narrative than what you saw.

Also, that OP at the end? Absolute banger. Agreed. But maybe it hit so hard because the rest of the episode built up the tension, the anger, and the energy leading into it. It wasn’t just a good song, it fit.

So yeah, you're free to dislike the episode, but writing it off as the worst thing ever just feels so forced. For a pilot, it did its job: it introduced the world, set up the stakes, gave us a protagonist with a reason to fight, and looked pretty damn cool doing it.

So, this world is divided between the rich, the poor and the abyss. I thought Rudo had some kind of power from avoiding those bullets. What’s the issue with his hands. I guess his father is not dead, or he could be the masked man.

I absolutely adore the fact that it tosses you right into the world and explains it just enough for you to understand what's going on, while not revealing too much. It does so in a well-balanced and eye-catching way. The art style as well as the animation is great! This first episode did it's job phenomenally, as I was and am so excited to keep watching this show! I also personally love a good dark aethetic, but that's just my opnion.
