Started out good but became a bit boring afterwards.

Lucy is good addition to the cast, she made the story more interesting.

It's strange that Beryl can't beat his father. His father body should be quite weak already at that age..

Will Mewi also learn swordmanship from Beryl?

Looking forward to next season.

What a great way to wrap up the first season. I really enjoyed the battle and resolution between Beryl and Rose. She didn’t deserve to die—she was being used by the Pope, who held the orphanage children hostage. In the end, everything was covered up, but as her mentor said, she must live on to atone for her sins.

This anime turned out to be a pleasant ride, with some solid CGI fight sequences. Nothing groundbreaking, but definitely a fun spectacle to watch. What I enjoyed most were the moments where Beryl slowly became a father figure to Mewi—and I’m so glad they confirmed a second season.

Great, a very *decent* show. It's nothing special but it has its charms. With great action scenes with a good, kind-hearted, and humble protagonist, it became one of the best comfort fantasy this season. Wholesome moments of the show are very great, and I loved seeing Beryl interacting with all of his past disciples/students. Him and Mewie's father daughter relationship was cute too. Overall a good show, with not much to criticize about other than the plot being a bit basic. 8/10

Huh? What lesson was she supposed to learn? Children were being held hostage and she chose to fight to protect them, and had she not they may very well have been executed. I don't like... this lesson felt super off, I felt we were given no real depth to Rose and the whole post-battle narrative made me cringe. "Ah yes, sensei, please teach me how to be a good girl, I'm just a little confused, bwaaa."

I really enjoyed this show up until the last episode and now I don't want to recommend it anymore. He literally didn't teach her a single lesson. Not one. "You made a mistake." Ok. Care to actually define it beyond "you got tricked" which can literally happen to anyone given enough pressure and manipulation regardless of "experience"? Can anyone explain to me what that whole scene was about? The whole like self-important "don't use violence, it's bad :(" is so.... bereft of any thought.

These types of anime that pre qualify themselves as seemingly benign sometimes end up stepping on their own toes by setting up their own mundane existence, however unintentionally or not. But it told it like it was, this was just about some old country bumpkin sensei. Its also a bit seinen to appeal to older guys; to remind many of us that we have not fully outlived our usefulness. In that, it has a funny round about but encouraging message. And it never hurts to have a buncha women in their 20s into you either, if nothing else but for a boost to ones morale :P. But the show took too much time to accomplish anything, and eventually the fight scenes got better, but it was too little too late. I wish they had shown more of the phenomenal skill of hte sensei to the fullest from the first few episodes, but oh well. Not really worht a rewatch either, despite the HOT BUSTY REDHEAD CHICK FTW ^<^ lmao, but they could iron out these problems, despite how seemingly chill it could be, though bland at times as well, by the second season. ITs hard to believe its getting a 2nd seaosn when so many other short shows over the years that were much better never got one, but...somebody is backing this, and money talks lol. Hopefully season 2 will be much better. 5.5/10

Ep 12 you know wouldn't it have been easiest for Rose to stab everyone in the back and kill the prince herself, this wandering away to have a duel with her teacher was stupid. As was the reveal that she had to do it because of the orphanage kids being held hostage...whatever. I hate that they show blood spurting on these guys when they get killed and Rose being covered in blood when she was cut but after killing dozens of assassins none of them have a drop of blood on them yet they made them look wet because of the rain...really?
Anyway yeah this was oK the girls are cute the fights are decent but the story is meh and yeah humility only goes so far at some point you start looking like an idiot for not being able to recognize your own and others skills. I mean what will it take? Oh you can't beat your dad? So what? Maybe consider he is the greatest swordsman ever. After 12 episodes it gets annoying. 6/10.

Seems like Rose got off easy there at the end, with her not going to face any punishment for her actions.
But, god damn was not expecting Beryl to cut down a student of his like that.

These last few episodes had us eating good with the action and battle scenes.

Anyways, it seems like Beryl somehow found himself in an awkward situation at the royal banquet, but it looks like even the king recognises Beryl's swordsmanship skills.
Looking forward to continuing this show next year when the next season drops :}

That was a chill ending. He got recognized for his contribution and got called a sword master.

Fun watch overall. Really like that they add sword fighting details beyond the usual hack and slash. Looking forward to season 2.

I started watching thinking it was going to have a focus on medieval swordsmanship, got baited into a regular fantasy harem.

Some fights were decent, it got a little serious towards the end, at least some goons died, of course the author didn't have the balls to actually kill Rose.
The world ended up being a mix between mid fantasy monster slaying and b tier political drama.

This can't be above average.

My favorite part of this episode was thinking "huh, the music sounds like Shiki's" around the 10 minute mark, then looking up the composer to to find out it is in fact Shiki's composer. Bruv be recycling chord progressions lol. I mean I don't blame him; that theme from Shiki is one of my favs.

I'm glad he didn't go wishy washy on cutting her down, even if she doesn't end up dying in the end...which I'm fine with cause she had her reasons. That said, pretty stupid of her to believe the Pope about the bishop (and who knows how many other stuff) when she is aware that he s literally taking kids hostage. Like believe what you want, but if your religious leader is the type to take kids hostage, you should probably rethink your life and everything that person is telling you. Mind you not that I think the prince that got so many people killed for the sake of posture should be easily trusted either.

The series surprised me honestly. I was expecting more of a dense clueless but op gag with endless harem thrown in, but it was an enjoyable watch with well choreographed sword duels instead of your typical slash affair. I was expecting magic to have a bigger part in things given how it was introduced early on, but it got sidelined pretty hard, which I'm ok with. I wonder if we'll get more of that in s2 though. Looking forward to it!

Any news on season 2? This is one of those hidden gems of the season. I think also, there's more to Rose than what is being let on.

Fairs, this show really grew on me over time.
I always liked it, but it wasn’t until Mewi was introduced that I truly fell in love with it.

“I think you praising me is even better than being praised by the king.”

Of all the accomplishments, the reunions with old students, the conspiracies and worldbuilding—Beryl becoming a dad to Mewi was hands-down the highlight for me. It was such a warm, wholesome arc, and one of the most touching portrayals of found family I’ve seen in fantasy recently.

I'm so glad the finale wrapped without anyone dying. I really thought Rose was going to be sacrificed, but thankfully she was just being manipulated by the Pope. That man—and Reveos too—make my skin crawl. Preying on kids and twisting good people for your own gain... it's despicable. I hope someone takes them down eventually. They’ve got it coming.

Sorry Beryl, but you’re never escaping the “master swordsman” title now. 😅
Seeing him recognized by the king was such a proud moment—and Allucia’s excitement? Way higher than his own, lmao. Poor guy looked so out of his depth with the whole royal ceremony.

And that ending... wow. Just perfect. No matter the recognition or titles, Beryl’s still a simple man at heart. He just wants to eat a quiet meal with his daughter and be present in her life. A reminder to real-life dads out there—sometimes, that’s what really matters.

Great finale. Genuinely good show. Can’t wait for Season 2.

Everything is garbage. The utter lack of taste in the battle scenes is truly unmatched.
