He's taken seriously by white Hollywood and US animation and comic industry and censorship apologists people because his works are masterpieces and he's a major figure of anti-consumerism.

| Because he's an old man, and people are fond of Ghibli. That's really it. Oh, and also because Ghibli movies are often very wholesome and beautiful (he is a fantastic artist, that's undeniable). He's always been critical of the industry and of other artists in general. He's very much an "I am an artist and anyone who doesn't make art the way I do is not" type of person, and it shows if you've ever really paid attention to the way he acts. It's kind of like that meme of Miyazaki (ghibli) vs Miyazaki (demon souls). One makes horrors and is a happy man inside, one males happy fantasies and is a detached man inside. |

| This thread becomes even funnier, once you realize @TheWiru never watched ANY Miyazaki anime (or anything else by Ghibli) at all. Not even the most popular ones like Princess Mononoke or Chihiro. How would you even know if he's overrated or not? Just watch some of his stuff and you will see for yourself if it holds up or not. 🙄 |
