Mixed feelings about this one. It's been a while since I played the visual novel but I don't remember the spirited away part. Up to this point they made Tsumugis route look like a Hentai visual novel and it feels kind of weird. I remember the game being super funny but the anime version of tsumugis story feels kind of weird and gives me an uneasy feeling... She was one of my favorite visual novel characters but thanks to the anime I think shes pretty annoying now lol. The finale of tsumugis route was the saddest part of the original if you don't count the soul crushing true ending but I fear that the next episode won't bring the bowl of onions with it this time around.
@Luke_MK the vn does have the spirited away part, it just happens gradually over a period of days instead of suddenly. I agree that the adaptation seems more ecchi, but my assumption is because the vn just has text and doesn't have the animations or cgs for these scenes. There's no chance the finale will be as impactful as the original, but I'm hoping for the best.

ok catching up on the next 2 episodes... I was thinking they should have done Ao, first, before Tsumugi.
Because of... stuff. And that once you know the Ao part, the Tsumugi part (and the whole Hanakana part) could link well, and after Tsumugi you could just do Shiki (if you want) or go to Shiroha finally.
Maybe they should have done Ao first, yeah.

There are times when you don't really need to keep the mystery, and being told of the mystery first would enhance the feels that drop. Because you knew, but you still don't want it to happen. (as Summer Pockets also used this trick later on.)

ps.: Well... at least the pace slowed down, after that episode 7. So that's a relieve for me.

@samsterbirdies no it happened suddenly, too if I remember right. This one, I mean. The disappearance.

but well... they changed the timing a bit, since in the novel Katou-san (the grandma) was much older when she died,

as for as more "ecchi" adaptation: it's just adding more "Hairi likes boobs" part to his characterization.
I think that's necessary for anime, since in a VN or a book that uses heavy first person story-telling you always leave slight room for readers to self-insert a bit as the protag (that's regardless of the type of VN it is).
An anime is mostly 3rd-person, since you gotta animate the protag a lot, the protag gonna appear on the screen a lot. So you gotta fill that empty "room" in the characterization of the protag.

@Revvie-chan for hairi's disappearance, yes. But tsumugi increasingly had trouble with meeting her friends on-time each day until she just didn't.

If the stories are predictable, then we've already seen most of what there is to see about Tsumugi's arc, and in the next episode we'll see how she's spirited away by the damned butterflies, much like Kamome was.

This episode was far more satisfying than the previous one. The story now shows that each heroine has two versions: a "historical" one tied to some tragic historical fact, such as a medical condition or social problems, and a "present" one, living in Hairi's timeline, and all the historical versions are trapped in a supernatural realm full of butterflies, symbolizing unfulfilled potential. Hairi's task seems to be bringing all the historical versions into his present and realizing them.

Hairi now gets himself spirited away by the butterflies and meets a "historical Tsumugi". He manages to escape by singing Tsumugi's song, but the historical version of Tsumugi remains stuck because of her hesitation. It wasn't clear how Tsumugi's song actually helped Hairi to escape, and I consider that a plot hole, even if it's explained in the next episode, because there were already developments in the story that needed to be explained around that imo. There's no way to understand Hairi's decision to use that song to escape.

I laughed out loud when I noticed the Paringle veranda was the key to escaping the supernatural lighthouse. Hairi seemed to be able to stand on top of it, but this is physically impossible. An unopened soda can is able to withstand an adult's weight (I wouldn't try it myself because it's a dangerous thing to do, but this is actually true, soda cans are incredibly strong), but in Tsumugi's case, chip cans like Pringles are made of paperboard and are not pressurized, making them very weak structurally. They wouldn't resist Hairi's weight collapsing the whole structure. This is a significant inaccuracy.

We also learn that the lighthouse wasn't originally Tsumugi's but belonged to a young boy she was in love with and planned to elope with. It's a shame the story didn't focus into this romance between them and between Tsumugi and her family (she seemed to have a very strict German father with a mustache). I would've enjoyed Tsumugi's arc more if they developed her backstory as a subplot, later connecting it to Hairi's experiences, and then linking it to the main plot about the butterflies. That would've been amazing, and I would be fine with it even if it meant sacrificing Hairi's screen time. I think given the existence of this backstory, Tsumugi's arc should've focused less on Hairi for the most part, in contrast with the previous arc, and then it could've been called a masterpiece of a lifetime. But currently, I find it acceptable, and I like that the story is progressing, but there is a missed opportunity here.

The ending kiss was very romantic and perfect. Tsumugi looked more mature with her blue bow. So cute!

At least that was a cute episode, even with a kiss.
kind of sad Tsumugi will probably have no happy end.

still the setting remains completely strange,
island of broken dreams, maybe everyone isn't real XD

@gebraffe Hairi's decision of escape isn't the song. It's his choice to believe in his lover, which the original Tsumugi failed to do. He was singing simply because he was thinking about her.

@samsterbirdies that's not it imo, he decided to think good memories after the other Tsumugi told him what to do to escape that realm, so it was a decision on his part. but how can nursery rhymes make you travel between dimensions? maybe it was all Hairi's dream?

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but I find it kinda weird that Hairi fell for Tsumugi so easily and fast, despite only seen her couple times near the light tower before
Same. It's one of the reasons why this chapter isn't hitting me-- their relationship in this Anime felt like it jumped too many relationship phases in 2 episodes. Hairi's connection with Kamome felt like a great compatibility in wavelength, and them having fun adventuring together led to a special connection.
Would've hoped for Tsumugi to have had the same development with Hairi as well.

this really was a great episode, honestly probably the best episode so far. i just really wish they didn't rush it so much when they first introduced this route

to the team behind studio feel & the director, great job, this feels like a P.A. Works anime, even as an anime only. I can feel the Key essence in this series and it's great

I just wish they gave Tsumugi's route more than 4 episodes, cause as an anime only. you can definitely tell it's rushed.

5/5 episode

Oh dang lmao, Hairi is the one disappearing now. We get to see the supernatural pov lol. Ofc he barely recalls anything though, I had a feeling he would say that. At least there was a reunion, though till the end of summer thing is still feeling iffy. More depression is lying in the wait. Anyways, that was a pretty Wholesome sentimental moment at the end of this episode.

Never ending plan to watch list...

"Brother of Muneera!" (Arabs will understand what I mean hahahahahahahaha). But seriously! Kamome?? Where is she?? Did you throw her into the ocean or something? Buddy, your kiss with that underage girl didn’t affect me—I was moved and done with Kamome.

Anyway, I’ll miss Oppai-san. Don’t worry, I’m here in Takahara’s place.

@samsterbirdies ye, it's part of the part they rushed on the first quarter of Tsumugi arc (aka episode 7?) I complained about that, too, as they slowed down on the "other girl" scene on episode 8 and 9.

if it's me I would have done Ao first before Tsumugi, so that they can make more time for the buildup of Tsumugi route (that very part) but ah well

kinda disappointed with this series so far. i thought this was gonna be a group of friends living out their summer vacation to the fullest going on adventures slice of life but its not. Do I have to read the VN to get that experience?

Yelp, Hairi being teased by Shizuku to tell of their confession to each other, that's one, but as to where she actually lives (aside from the lighthouse), the trace...can only be found within some photographs he found while helping Kyouko.

The search for the blonde girl, as is Granny comes up with something similar that she could be a ghost who "spirited away", and it links with the house that they first thought that no one lived there, until they find her stuff all primped up and looking a lot clean, though her backstory was quite the tragic one being an outcast in school, until she found a friend who shoes her interest in stuffed animals, and even eloping with the lighthouse keeper? Something feels amiss about that, and the diary only paints a grimmer picture, until Hairi makes a return to the lighthouse...only to find himself spirited away too?

In what seems like an endless timeloop, Hairi chancing upon Tsumugi, though being like the girl in the photo, the reality soon hits him that he would be stuck in eternity. Likewise with Tsumugi, the fear of eloping with the lighthouse keeper to abandon everyone, he can see the way out through the Pairingles, though it shocks the current timeline's girls that he almost lost his life too once Tsugumi is brought back to reality, after spending what seems like a moment that's an entire day in reality. Even Kyouko and Umi were worried, though relieved thereafter, and that must've been quite the shock too for them.

At least Tsumugi can come to a resolution to find herself on the other side, though Hairi would be left lonely.
A kiss sealed right at Summer's end, and I hope that Tsumugi can get a better Summer's end worth of ther time.
