^ lol I gave it 3 extra points for the samurai XD

It is sad that there isn't really a good BL out there... and even sadder is that I'm going through my mountain of BL manga now to clean up space and most of it is so crappy.. and it's not just because of my general aversion of romance, but the stories are either too rushed or really lame and/or cliche... and I've only come across a handful manga I really liked ... I feel like I'm kissing a lot of frogs to find one prince!!

Just finished Elfen Lied and I am in 2 minds. Part of me enjoyed it and part didnt. make no mistakes, its got as much blood in it as Hellsing and the story doesnt give me the answers I wanted. But to say that Lucy/Nyuu and Nana didnt touch me would be a lie. I think I rooted for them as they eliminated those that used them as objects, but the lack of remorse was a bit worrying. I have read mixed reviews while I was watching it and all I can say is that this is not everybodies cuppa cha. I think though that it was one of those odd anime experiences that will stay with me for awhile.

Elfen Lied was quite a grim and gruesome series unlike anything I've ever watched before. The bloodshed, the violence, the monstrous machinations of some of the characters, it was both eyeopening and chilling at the same time. The first five minutes from the first episode will stay in my mind forever.

Master of Martial Hearts
Seen as sort of an Ikki-Tousen clone, this five episode show was about a female-only fighting contest to win a magical jewel called the Martial Heart that would grant the winner her fondest wish. For four episodes it was all fighting, fanservice and ripped clothing, nothing deeper than that, pretty damn cheesy in fact, but then came the final episode with the plot twist from hell that took even me by surprise. Hardly a great show, but it was a pleasant two plus hour diversion.

Completed Maria+ Holic last night. Itt never appealed to me previously but somebody said I should give it a bash because the maid was a hoot and I did. To be honest the first 3 episodes were not quite up my street, but I am glad I stuck it out because it just got funnier. I wasnt really a fan of Mariya her/himself, but Konoko was hilarious, and all the oddballs she was surrounded by. It was really great and I enjoyed it a lot.

I blitzed through the second season of Gantz this evening. Okay, I skipped the first episode even though I had probably watched it several years ago. I really don't have a clue as to what the very last scene of the series is supposed to mean. The bit prior to the end credits was like an attempt to inject some "feel good" atmosphere but it really just left me confused. Oh well...

Elfen Lied had me in tears almost through the whole thing. I'm getting to the point where I may have to rewatch it.

Chelle - I might have to check out Fuyu no Semi. I have no issues watching Shounen Ai/Yaoi so long as it has a good story.

Today I finally watched "Sword of the Stranger". My roommate moved out and left that movie behind. It was my Christmas gift to him but he never watched it. It was incredible! I'm actually glad I had waited, especially since it was Blue-Ray and I was able to watch it on my new TV. I don't think it would have been half as visually stunning if I had watched it on our old TV.

I can't think of any criticisms off hand. The animation/artwork of both foreground and background were stunning. The coloring was done well, what I would picture for that time, with punches of red. The musical score was perfect and really added to building up to the climax. The actions sequences were spectacular. All that, plus a very touching story with a superb ending.

Just finished Seto no Hanayome and i have to say that this was one of the funniest series i've ever watched. I was searching for good comedy when i came across a review where someone complained that it didn't contain enough romance but too much silliness instead, so i thought "hey, i might enjoy this!" and well, i did. It's probably the one romance/harem anime you can safely recommend to people who usually dislike those genres (like myself). And it's really damn funny!

I also finished Senkou no Night Raid which i can't really recommend to anyone since it's a weird and rather lacklustre mishmash of all kinds of genres with "wasted potential" written all over it.

I have just finished Koihime Musou and Shin Koihime Musou in quick succession and I was really amused. I havent seen such a bunch of crazy characters since Sayonara Zetsubor. Both there storylines were weak and fan service and innuendo abounded, but, both series were a lot of fun. And I have to admit that I was not able to really stop watching them because in my current state of health my concentration is severly limited. However, If you want a good snigger and enjoy big boobies and sarky girls then this one is for you. But dont expect it to challenge you mentally.

In July and August I finished a few series. Most, but not all, of them were underwhelming in my opinion.

  • Nabari no Ou
  • Saber Marionette R
  • Ragnarok the Animation
  • Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts
  • Black Blood Brothers

Nabari no Ou was interesting but a little too convoluted.
Saber Marionette R seemed like it was just trying to milk the last bit or money from that franchise.
Ragnarok I only watched because I am playing Ragnarok Online. Might have been a waste of my time.
Baka and Test was the best of the bunch. Simply because it kept me laughing. I had to pause during several episodes because I was laughing too hard to pay attention to what happens next.
Black Blood Brothers... umm... ? Too much left unresolved I guess. Maybe the manga will be better.

Sorry I don't post more often but I have just finished a series that I don't believe anyone else has mentioned in this thread.

Even though 'Bakemonogatari' premiered last summer, it just finished a few months ago. The last few episodes only recently came out on R2 disc releases.

This was a superb anime. High production values, interesting story line, great music, and excellent characters. It basically is a character-driven series so it has quite a bit of dialog with just a bit of action here and there. It also has a unique style that I haven't seen in other anime. I'm referring to the brief showing of inserted text or 'scene cut' graphics during the course of the episodes. It may be bothersome but it really is just another style of presentation or a character's inner dialogue.

To summarize it, it is a series of ghost or monster stories relating to 5 women and the main character Araragi Koyomi. It may sound like a harem but it really doesn't come across like that. There are romantic elements but they are handled wonderfully. As a matter of fact Episode 12 is simply about the protagonist's first date but it stands out to me as one of the best episodes of the series.

Check it out if you can.

That's what bothered me about it. It was almost like I was just watching gameplay that had been animated. And the story was severely lacking.

I have just completed Onegai Twins, its one of the a few series that I dropped awhile ago and have come back to. I havent seen the prequel Onegai Teacher so have to still get to that one.
I was however pleasantly suprised. The story is not too complex, but has its convolutions that make it interesting. Likeable characters and an almost Kanonish aspect to it did make it more appealing to me. The only really odd things I felt were the improbablity of the end result of who is a stranger and who is a relative, something didnt quite work there. I am also not a lover of that artwork, although the backgrounds were adequate.
It's an enjoyable watch though, and now I am going to go find out what Onegai Teacher is like.
Update. Just completed the OVA and is was poor... bleh

Let's see. Just finished Ah My Goddess S2 (kind of went through both seasons one after the other). Really enjoyed that. Also finished Sora wo kakeru Shoujo, which was surprisingly good sci-fi (though I suspect many will disagree), and last night I finished Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi, which I enjoyed as well.

I am currently a few episodes behind Asobi ni Iku Yo! and Kaichou wa Maid Sama. Though I figure I'll just watch them all at once when then last episodes air. Then I have to set out finishing neglected series.

Finshed Onegai Teacher today and it was excellent. I am just sorry I never watched it before Onegai Twins, but then I always get the sequences of things messed up, it can exist as a standalone series though, but then I am sure you would want a series 2 the way I do.
I must say though, I enjoyed the whole package, and IMHO there was a definite Kanon slant to it.

I have finally finished Yumeiro Patissierre and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It could have something to do with the fact that it had sticky pastries in it though. It wasnt an overly complicated story, but it was a fun story and there were quite a few moments of tension, especially towards the end. Its main character; Ichigo, was very likeable, if not slightly ditzy in a nice way, and the rest of the supporting cast made for a really enjoyable series. I believe a second series is in the offing, but I dont know if it will be as good as this one was. 50 episodes was an awful lot to watch without getting cravings for sweets and cake

Just completed Kashimashi ~ girl meets girl ~ and initially was really sceptical. But it really surprised me as I got further into it. It is the usual bittersweet anime romance with a twist, and it had very interesting characters. Its not going to be everybodies cup of tea though, and the initial episode does leave you wondering why you never started something else instead. There is supposed to be an OVA too, but I havent tracked it down yet, but I think it would make for a great series to have a series 2 of.

That one was hard for me to get started on as well, nixops. Kind of a nice surprise when it turns out to be a much better series than the initial episode sets you up for, and I agree that it would make a pretty good basis for a second season as well.

    Within a 4-day period, I did 3 re-watches:

First, I rewatched Clannad and fell in love with Tomoya all over again. *sigh* I don't think I could ever not like this show. I haven't rewatched ~After Story~ yet, because I just know I'm gonna ball my eyes out, and I don't wanna. O_o

I also re-watched my very first anime, Weiss Kreuz. Now, when I originally watched this (at my daughter's insistence), I didn't know what fansubs were. I only had the dubs available. And I really enjoyed it. This time around, I watched the DVDs in japanese dialogue with english subtitles and have to say, I was completely blown away. That and the fact that I haven't seen it in 4 years, I had forgotten most of the storylines and plots. Loved it loved it.

I also re-watched Ghost Hunt. Still as enjoyable as I remember. Bou-san. 'Nuff said. *sigh*

    Planetes was really great.

I was excited for this but also prepared to be let down by it. A show focused on adults and their jobs? What a concept! "I better watch this," I thought to myself. "But you know it's probably gonna be just okay." But wouldn't you know it, this was a really, really great series. Great characters, a thoughtful/interesting story, some of the best science fiction I've seen in a while, and it's one of the best-looking series in my collection, too.

Maybe I was slightly let down by the last episode or two, wanting something a little more satisfying from one of its biggest subplots, but hey, that's life.

I watched the live-action version of Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (The Wallflower). It's just awesome. I haven't seen many J-dramas, but this left a good impression that live-action adaptations can be done well and be just as funny as the anime versions. Nana live-action movie was alright, but was sometimes stiff beause it kept too close to the manga. Kyohei is played by a guy in a boy-band, and Sunako does a headbutt instead of a nosebleed when she sees those "creatures of light". Granted there's the usual cheeziness, but even the dramatic scenes where I knew it would be sad, I had to tear up.

I havent been posting lately but then I havent really been finishing much either, just catching up on episodes. But one movie that I completed was the Literature Girl move (Bungaka Shoujo...... ) and it really was odd. For starters the 2 main characters (Amano Touko and Inoue Konoha) are really great, but the story is actually about one of the minor characters. I liked most things about the movie, except maybe those pointy chins, but could not get any sort of empathy going for Miu (the minor character), she was throughly unlikeable. I also started watching 2 of the 3 for the Memoire series which gives a bit more background into each character too, and it just re-inforced my dislike for her. Touko was interesting to watch, kind of like Ayu from Kanon, but with long braids and an appetite for books.

One of the shows I was most looking forward to this past season was Togainu no Chi. One, because I understood it was based off of a BL game. (You know me, throw in a little BL and I'm soooo there). Second, the synopsis and story line just looked too good to pass up, 'cuz I also love a good fight/shounen type series.

It started good. A lot of people bitched about the animation, but to me, it was different, so I liked it a little. I loved the "color" (or lack thereof) in the series. It seemed to fit well.

I really enjoyed it... up until the last few episodes.

And as far as the last episode is concerned... complete rubbish!!!

12 episodes, and not a SINGLE BL scene to be had... just an occasional "hinting" throughout the series. And as far as the ending, if you can call it that... no closure whatsoever. Highly, highly disappointed.

I gave it a 6/10. Would have gotten an 8/10 if the last few episodes weren't so bad, and if there was actually some closure here. I could have dealt with the fact (albeit sadly) that there were no BL scenes. But goddammit!!! Gimme some f***ing closure!!!

    *sigh*

^ you're too lenient. Tho I gave it a mercy 5, myself. I knew it was going to be only slashy and not outright BL, because while the game is BL the manga is only slashy :/ what really ruined it for me was that it was so slow that it was a torture to watch... they took a good storyline with potential for great action (not just of the yaoi variety ^^) and interesting (and pretty hot) characters and made it so boring and bland.. it's really a crime :(

I've been so disappointed with everything I've watched lately (or forced myself to watch) and there are only 2 shows I'm going to attempt to watch in January.. I hope they'll be decent and be able to keep me entertained until April... at least in April there's going to be more Gintama x3 (is it April yet??)

I just finished Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru a few minutes ago, althon with a whole host of others this past week. I really enjoyed this series, it just kept getting funnier all the time. The last episode was a totally crazy one, but I have come to expect that from Hotori and co. I hope they have a follow up to it.
The other worth mentioned was the last episode of Amagami SS which has to be one of the better series I have seen this year, although I dont like that fact that there isnt really a conclusion to it (the wrong girl got the guy!). I enjoy the romance genre a lot so it did appeal to me and I was not dissapointed with it at all.
May the Uguu be with you.

Togainu no Chi was bad in every possible way: animation, characterization (or lack thereof), plot (or lack thereof), BL (or...). I only gave it a 6 because i rarely give a series i finish anything below that...i'm still amazed that i managed to finish it, though.

But all in all, this season wasn't as bad as i expected. There were quite a couple of decent shows like the above mentioned Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, Arakawa Under The Bridge x Bridge, Shinryaku! Ika Musume, Kuragehime and Shiki (though that was last season already, i suppose).
