I've been called a tourist before for saying that liking loli is gross lol. But there is a difference between being a casual and a "tourist." A casual is someone who simply likes and watches anime. A tourist typically refers to people who don't like anime or doesn't care about anime but only joins the hobby to change some aspect of it. Then there's the fact all these comparisons usually use the same 2-3 screenshots of the same 3-4 games because... well... cherrypicking screenshots and examples to make an inexistent point is an internet tradition. Here's Ciri's face from the same segment of the trailer:
Honestly it's very close to her W3's face. Same jawline, same chin, same nose, same eye shape. The lips changed a bit, but that's about it. I think what people see as "uglified" is just the change to her eyes and eyebrows color, and increased photorealism. Eyebrows' color does change one's appearance significantly. Being a witcher and mutating does change one's eyes' color, and can make their hair turn white. Geralt does have white eyebrows in the screenshots I found. The character is also supposed to be older.
Regarding photorealism (something gamers are asking since the advent of 3d games)... It's not going to make characters sexier. More realistic skin textures, the shadows under her cheekbones or on her lower lip's scar... Can't have your cake and eat it too.
I'm sure all the outraged weebs look like Johnny Depp when he was 30 and would instantly turn down W4's Ciri if she started hitting on them IRL... I mean, she's clearly "uglified" in that screenshot I posted 👀 I personally think her W4 trailer face is incredible and looks both prettier and more realistic than her W3 face... | The term "Tourist" is fundamentally flawed if it is specifically suppose to represent to Users who share the commonly held thought of behavior of the negative aspects of a real life tourist. How would one determine if someone is just simply visiting like a tourist? If it's based on simply just a Users activity on a platform like MAL, then just about everyone is a tourist unless they are actively posting constantly each and every day. Where there are people who have been into Anime longer than most active MAL Users Father's ever had their cherry popped. It's just most Users simply don't waste their time much on social platforms and instead probably doing something better with their time like maybe even watching Anime. So they will basically just come and go in the eyes of those who do not know them. Where one could argue, we will for now just call them "non-tourist", constantly post shitty takes, bitch and whine, and display behavior just as unappealing as a typical "Karen" at a restaurant asking to speak to the manager over petty reasons. So the frequency of such behavior should be irrelevant in this aspect. Whether it be just once, or seen every day by the same User who regularly post constantly on a platform like MAL. I have been into Anime since the 80s and if I was to start making Shitposts and making shitty takes a few times on MAL then disappear for a year to go do something better with my time like actually spending time watching Anime instead, would that make me some tourist? Even if so, why would I even give a shit what a bunch of strangers on the internet would call me in the 1st place? A large majority of Active Users on places like MAL equate to a bunch of Basement Dweller that got nothing better to do with their time than to act like some key board Warrior without a cause and thinks their opinions are gospel over anything anyone else has to say. Most Users that waste their time and life every day posting on platforms like MAL don't usually really have much of anything substantive to say in the 1st place. In this aspect, a majority of "non-tourist" are mostly just as bad if not worse in most cases than Users that label others as "tourist". At least the "tourist" will generally go away. Like I said before, the term "tourist" is nothing more than a term used simply to marginalize and berate other Users and it's always used in such a condescending way. One could literally replace the term "tourist" with just about any other term to simply belittle another Users and it could even be more effective than the term "tourist". Even "Jackass", "Dumbass", or even "Fucking Moron" are more effective terms simply to ridicule another User and at least those term get to the point and not pussyfoot around using terminology and slang coded to be nothing more than an insult. |

She does not look good if her hair is obscured, but that is true for a vast majority of people.
