Hip-hop is a favorite genre of mine, but not the absolute favorite.

Lately, I've been reading people saying Snoop is a snake, that he was jealous of Tupac (hating on him for 30 years? Prove it!), crying, whatever on social media and that's bullshit. His critics having like 3rd grade English makes their criticism seem more groundless and immature. How about they go back to school? Get out of that ghetto mentality altogether.

They're just hating because he's a prominent figure in hip-hop and he should have been CEO of Death Row long ago instead of that muscleheaded, divisive has-been football player acting hard since the 80s called Suge Knight. Old has-been in general and is as much of a cowardly puppeteer as that other overpaid, convicted has-been from New York that used to be called Puff Daddy (go to hell, you freak! Say goodbye to your net worth you stole from your star performer and no more freaky punkass parties for you, potentially desecrating Christopher Wallace's grave). Two old has-beens responsible for the deaths of their star rappers because of some old California vs New York rap war. Totally their fault and I would never jeopardize my star entertainer's life by any means if I was his manager, producer, etc.

Everyone knows that Snoop is a Libra or had a birthday around last month. It's no huge surprise that Libras are non-confrontational (Tupac was too direct, bold and confrontational, even for his own good) and I know those people. What is a huge surprise is that people still have no idea that media often inflates or twists conflicts between celebrities, especially in a high-stakes environment like the gangsta rap era. Still acting like media sensation never happened. Getting overwhelmingly played, misled, etc by the assumption of make-believe jealousy based on an overblown narrative from journalists or fans looking for drama. Just goes to show you how ignorant as well dense his critics really are (face-palming towards mankind now). They are also too nostalgic over some fallen star rapper for their own good. They need to get that nostalgia out of their heads and use common sense.

In reality, while there were moments of tension between the two, both Snoop and Tupac shared a mutual respect for each other's artistry, and Snoop has often expressed sadness over Tupac’s death (as shown on interviews). That imaginary jealousy that said critics deny is more of a myth rooted in misunderstandings and media exaggeration rather than an accurate portrayal of their relationship. Critics either being totally clueless or just plain retarded.

In general, I have very eclectic tastes in music overall. Sometimes! I listen to the best of rock (I love that fact that some metal bands survived the grunge era where as others aged poorly after the 80s), country, jazz, bubblegum pop, underground hip-hop, J-Pop, etc.

I even try to delve into great music in video games.

@TheAnimeLogician Was not sure if the DAW question would come up.

I use a free app Music Maker Jam (I've tried it on mobile it's ok, the outdated but functional enough PC version I use). It's not great. It's one of those more you experiment for fun then a 'serious' one many would recommend of course.

The company has a more technical one but I couldn't get into it and the garbage free trial 1 use was just so bad I went nah.

I have never used Ableton, FL, Repear or others. I know of them but I don't know about free tiers/trial and I don't have the skills to use them. I should move onto those types and if free or more basic then their level of complexity one of these days.

I am not music educated at all by the way, had some artists see my stuff and had to explain that to them.

I just pay attention to music very closely for fun. XD Same with game design, same with other things. I don't over analyse everything but sometimes you just can't help it or probably ask why do I like this song, book, game, etc. or what you may think works and why it does. Or just experience it and move on that works too. XD

Like I don't go the whole oh I know a game designer/composer/programmer and so on or the same as anime fans that know and follow the staff's work either. I don't do any of that. I may know or hear of key ones that appear in interviews but that's about it I don't go 'that' deep.

Here is many of my works on my 2 YT channels for what sort of odd stuff I've done over the years. I haven't had any ideas in my mind transferred to the app but I usually just go with what I think sounds cool and sometimes inspired by songs I listen to (sometimes in a bad way to 'replicate' them with other samples so those ones are bad but the inspiration but still making it my own ones work).

Not intending on just selling myself here it just furthers the points I'm trying to make in the post. XD

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLU7UsNZoQUAfj2pF5Dv6BS5q6GZdxGu8x 1st channel more personal for subs/comments these days

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbOPi5L7V78IuFgKHzDEW3MycwCFstStu 2nd channel

Some are on my Soundcloud but I usually keep it for likes/playlists then uploads due to how the free accounts have limited storage kind of like how cloud services work. So YT is where 99% of my uploads are besides I keep them on my local hard drive as well just encase. The Mp3 not the videos I'd re-download them if need be which have had to do when I lost the MP3s for one era/set or whatever I call them per sample pack mixing periods.

I took a break from it for a while and back at it just not uploaded them. Or publicly at least yet. It did take a bit of getting used to again but eventually found my way back into it.
@Suntanned_Duck2 That's good, always nice to comeback to music and check things out. Honestly, it's one of the reasons why I love making music I can always go back to a saved project or an unfinished project and do some fun stuff with it.

I don't have any craze towards music since HS. I used to be huge fan of metal. But I need music at times.

Classical, folk, metal, military themes and recently jazz too
@Infinite-Vergil Nice! I'm loving the taste in music, I've never heard of military themes being a genre of music, but I need to check it out.

- Opera
- Instrumental classical
- Folk metal
- Black metal
- Some industrial metal
- 1930s big band
- Some jazz
- Historical and martial/military music, as in different national and subnational armed forces' and political-factional anthems and marches and such
- Sublime OSTs, of course including those from anime and it's something I only started to truly pay attention to in depth and detail and take extra notice of after becoming aware of it as a phenomenon through/in anime, but doing so made me go back and even appreciate more of certain (live action) film soundtracks too, and some for cartoons, video games, etc.
- Bluegrass
- Some country
- 1960s and 70s soft rock and pop

That about covers it, but my strongest longest-lasting loves are in opera, instrumental/non-operatic classical, folk metal, and black metal (at least if we're leaving aside something like OSTs from entertainment media, which are like their own thing and a world of their own).

But I essentially like at least something or some examples of practically every genre to varying degrees, except like rap, hip hop, and salsa. And most techno too.
@WatchTillTandava That's good to know, always nice to broaden the horizon's within music, I believe all music has good ideas that were put into action and became amazing works of art.

@Kurt_Irving I agree with you on that, Snoop was a great businessman as well as rapper, he should have been the one to lead the label, and I can see why he would have his haters, the man simply does it better than most people even compared to most new rappers these days.

And that is true, sometimes I wonder how the grunge era fell before metal did, but then I realized, metal never died off and Grunge only took a turn for the worst as Kurt Cobain had passed away and the lead singer of Alice In Chains as well. Their voices were unique and were perfect for Grunge.

I like when songs have catchy guitar melodies.

My favorite genres are rock/pop from the 90th and early 2000s (Weezer, The Killers, Pulp), psychedelic rock/folk from the 60s (The Doors, Cream, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Donovan).

I also like visual kei (X Japan, Shazna, Malice Mizer) and jrock (The Pillows, The Brilliant Green, L'arc-en-Ciel, Number Gril)

... and of course Akira Yamaoka and his soundtracks to SH anthology.

I divide all music on 2 types: which I liked, which I didn't like. So there is no 1 favorite genre.
Of course some genres have more successful songs in my collection, some less. For example, I'm not a fan of heavy metal, but "The Other Side" by "Sirenia" is great.
I apologize for my mistakes, because it's not my native language.

@paranoidphantom I love the rock you listen to, rock these days I feel is all generic mainstream crap that people rarely care about and the fact that music is constructed to the point where it's in your face with its loud sound every second of its playtime, gives me even more reason to be believe why music these days isn't all that good.

Most of the new music I listen to comes from Metal and EDM, but I'll listen to anything that isn't from 2020 up until recently. Weezer, The Killlers, The Doors, Cream, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, X Japan, The Pillows, and L'arc-en-Ciel are all stuff I listen to.

I'm a 3rd generational rocker, as my grandpa was into Guns N Roses, White Snake, and Stevie Ray Vaughn, my mother was into things like Limp Bizkit, Metallica, Korn, and Three Doors Down. Essentially, they would pass down their albums and cassettes to me, which I am grateful for to this very day since my grandfather passed away two years ago and I still miss him to this day.

While in high school I would join a local metal band, and the band members themselves all different taste of music, but we all loved metal none the less. I would end up playing bass guitar and become one of the best bass guitarists in my school, as my love of music and inspiration to pick the bass all came from bands like Korn, Slayer, Job For A Cowboy, Cannibal Corpse, and Mastodon.

I love all kinds of music, just because music is a beautiful artform and I am currently producing electronic music and what's funny is I fell in love with EDM, thanks to anime. If you've ever watched Cyborg 009, then you've heard of the edm group Globe and their song "Genesis of Next" and "What's the justice?"

Soon I'm going to invest into buying a half-stack amp so I can do bass covers on anime songs, thanks for commenting on my topic, appreciate the many people who love music within MAL.

@DreamWindow Same lol Metal is what got me into playing bass; Korn, Slayer, Job For A Cowboy, essentially my love for metal came down to one and only one thing... what genre is the heaviest and how technical and fast is their playing. I would learn to play various things from Nu-Metal to Thrash Metal to Death Metal to Deathcore to Metalcore and so on and so forth.

I'd end up becoming one of the best bass players in my school that a local metal band would hire me to play for them, one of the hardest songs I would learn was "An Ancient Covenant" by The Faceless which is Tech Death or Tech Deathcore.

And Hardcore punk? I love both genres, and honestly, I just love music in general, you can never go wrong with loving an artform.

@Forain That's good, so you have an open-mind, and you listen to whatever you like, honestly, I'm the same way, but instead I love all genres of music and there are songs I love from every genre, and some songs I dislike from every genre.

Though if I had to pick three of my favorite genres? I would say Electronic, Metal, and Rap music. I also love Rock, Country, and some other stuff.

@TheAnimeLogician Metallica is very solid same with Korn, although i dont listen to much Korn. Slayers Riffs are awesome and especially fun to play in rhythm games. Also nice learning bass, i hope to learn a stringed instrument one day, but right now i can only play smoke on the water on a ukulele i found at my friends house.

I think it's important to first mention that I barely listen to anything new :) it usually takes effort for me to like new music and let it into my heart, and I'd have to listen to it again and again before I can figure out whether I like it or not, for whatever reason. Maybe not the most fitting term, but I guess it makes me kind of "musically conservative", in a way :p but there are exceptions, of course, when it's "love at first sound", even though they're relatively rare. Therefore, when it comes to music - new things rarely pique my interest immediately, unless I put some effort into it :) as an example: I visited one of the MAL music topics back in 2021 that looked relevant to my tastes, and I saw someone recommending Kōenjihyakkei there. I decided to try it out, and I haven't purposefully listened to anything new ever since lol soundtracks and random songs that I encounter here and there don't count. And it's been almost 4 years! That's the extent of my music exploration and experimentation lol I'd just been listening to that 1 new curiosity for months until I stopped, in addition to a few bands/musicians/songs that already won my heart, whom I listen to regularly. It's curious that when it comes to anime, for example, I'm basically ready to watch anything out of curiosity and don't have any real reservations, but when it comes to music - I often feel uncomfortable even trying to go outside of my preferences ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I wonder why.

As for what genre(s) I consider my favorite, that would be post-hardcore in general and emo in particular. I used to have this wonderful OneDrive link where someone uploaded a bunch of obscure post-hardcore, emo, screamo etc. bands from the 90s from all over the world, hundreds of bands! That's what I used to tap into when I craved something new. It was a treasure trove! Unfortunately, that link doesn't seem to work anymore :( I wonder if there is a reupload somewhere. In any case, before I had access to that collection, my close acquaintance, who is a musician, just gave me an occasional recommendation. Considering how rarely I listened to anything new - finding something was obviously never a problem lol
Going through his list also made me interested in zeuhl, which led to me falling in love with Universal Totem Orchestra (and that's where the whole interest in Kōenjihyakkei and Ruins came from to begin with). Other than that and some occasional craving for classical music, I never really strayed far from my "comfort zone", and it's not like I needed to: I had plenty of game soundtracks and a few beloved bands (or just individual songs) "infused" with important memories that I constantly used to "sustain" and inspire myself :) and having an occasional "adventure" in terms of listening to some new post-hardcore or emo bands was more than enough for me, and a nice way to maybe genuinely fall in love with some new band or a particular song, as rare as it is.

And I get that exploring more can yield interesting results! While I may not particularly enjoy metal as much as some of my friends do, I do like the distinct sound of industrial or gothic metal, for example :) and other things, like darkwave, also piqued my interest on more than one occasion, but I just don't really feel the need to experiment all that much. I'm comfortable with the "familiar sounds", and it's all about the overall impact and not the quantity of music I listen to anyway. As I've mentioned, I have enough treasured memories associated with what I love, so it's enough to sustain and inspire me without any real need to try and find something new :) and I'm also not a professional musician, so I probably lack the enthusiasm to explore all the music in-depth just for the sake of it - it's never been my goal, and my priorities often just lie elsewhere :) an occasional escapade once a few years in search of something new is enough, I guess. That's relatable lol I haven't listened to Slow Damage OST all that much, though. I think it's my least favorite Nitro+Chiral soundtrack so far, even though I do like quite a few things there.

I usually go for instrumental music, mostly electronic music as it resonates me with the most. I’m mostly passionate about listening to it though.

It's hard to name styles within that field since the artists that I find interesting play around with different styles but recently I've been in mood for stuff that isn't too heavy on the ears but rather more ambient or jazz inspired. But not so much styles like hardstyle or electro-industrial that others have mentioned being fans of above me.

I always feel quite self-conscious namedropping artists since I feel like everyone knows them (atleast all who are into similar stuff). And it’s hard to pick favorites in general as I don’t really think about it that much. Generally I just answer what I've been enjoying recently like the Cinematic Orchestra, Alva Noto, Oneohtrix Point Never and Sofia Kourtesis.

@Spast1c That's still something to be proud of, at least you're learning on an instrument and sooner or later, you'll be able to play most songs on any stringed instrument. The average person lives to be around 80+ years old, so you basically have the next 60+ years to do so. Keep up the good work, maybe on your birthday, you could ask your parents to buy you a bass or a guitar?

Maybe this will change, who knows.

@-YaoiBoy- That's fair, I'm usually a shut-in, unless I'm hanging out with friends from high school or my social circle of anime convention weebs, I do have a job and I am training to become a better musician, so I'm not really a NEET, but regardless I understand, we aren't all the same and some of us have our own goals.

For me I currently run a YouTube channel, and I'm studying to code so I can become a programmer someday, my YT channel is all anime content and to become a better programmer I want to create a tech company that focus on building and scaling an app like Facebook or Instagram.

I'm also building my home studio, I own three guitars, one acoustic, one bass, and one electric guitar, and together they all cost $900-$1000 dollars. I have my audio interface, my pro studio headphones, and mic, I also have my studio monitors aka studio speakers for pro mixing and mastering, and not only do I know how to make metal or rock music, but I can also make electronic music.

Started making electronic music last year around October, and it's been fun delving into Trance, Dubstep, and Progressive House music; Overall I would say this, do what you want, enjoy what you do, and follow your goals and dream, we all deserve to be happy, as we only have one life to live and that's it.

I currently have three trance songs done, and once I finish the other seven, I will release my very first album.

@Uksi Instrumentals are also nice, as not all music needs party lyrics or lyrics that give a song more meaning, music is an art that should be enjoyed by all and therefore music is subjective; I've had people tell me that my music is too heavy or too loud, or just isn't for me due to my race, but regardless it doesn't bother me, as I like what I like and therefore, opinions only matter till I stop caring about them.

Never be afraid to enjoy what you enjoy, nobody is perfect, and everyone has skeletons in their closet mainly due to curiosity or just not thinking and not having control of their emotions. I've been on this planet for 29 years and I've made decisions that I regret making, and sometimes I wish I could have done better within my school days, but it is what it is, understand me?

Keep it real and have a nice day 👍🏼

I grew up listening to metal. Mostly Death metal and some thrash of course but nowadays Black metal is my favorite genre.

Black Metal is my favourite, being obsessed with it is my biggest sperg trait. I'm also fond of Neofolk and sometimes like to listen to some V-kei too.

@epidemia78

Surprised to see HF mentioned here, one of my favourite acts from the Ukrainian scene together with Drudkh, Ygg, Ulvegr, Nokturnal Mortum and Kroda.

@Morningstar991 Those are some good genres, I need to listen to more Breakcore so I can understand it better, I do understand that producing breakcore is difficult.

Idk if I have a favorite genre per se, as my taste is pretty eclectic.

I do tend to like alternative/indie music. Basically, I don't care for most popular genres and bands, and like artists that don't limit themselves to a particular genre and aren't afraid to experiment. I've always wanted to get into filk.

To give an idea of some artists I like, they're Manu Chao, Damon Albarn and Ferry (the Vocaloid artist.)

@Malkshake I've yet to hear about those artists and I'm extremely open-minded and I love all sorts of music. I'll check em out.

Here lately I've been listening to a lot of hardcore punk and punk rock(Sum41, The Offspring). Refused is by far one of my favorite hardcore punk bands. Also a big fan of Pennywise. Other than that, alt rock (Seether, Saliva, Three Days Grace), pagan folk (Wardruna, Heilung, Garmarna), folk metal (Falkenbach, Ensiferum, Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow) , melodic death metal (At The Gates, In Flames, Amorphis), electronic (various artists but I always return to Kraftwerk). Bands in parenthesis give only a brief overview of the bands I like in each genre. I also like some rap, but I'm very picky. I love lyrical geniuses like Tech N9ne, Kendrick Lamar, JID, and Hopsin.

I guess you could say that overall my favorite genre is the one with a overdriven guitar in it.

@Sawilagar Damn! That's a lot of good my dude, I listen to some of those myself, such as Pennywise, Seether, Saliva, Three Days Grace, At The Gates, In Flames, Tech N9ne, JID, Hopsin, K.Dot, Kraftwerk, Sum41, The Offspring. Yeah, lots of good stuff in all honesty. I learned to play some Pennywise on the bass guitar, I also enjoy making music and someday I'd like to upload it to my anime yt channel, if that makes sense.

@GoddessLove All good choices of music, you can never go wrong with any type of music, as all music is subjective, and all music is art.
