It's weird that there are so many Frieren fans denying that she is asexual. It's not speculation or headcanon, it's explicitly mentioned within the text of the show. People should stop coping and accept the canon imo especially people who ship her with Himmel.
Yeah, I also noticed it. You can see a lot of people raging over calling Frieren as asexual, yelling about "what does it have to do with this wholesome story?!", while the story itself mentions this aspect of elvish biology and society. It was explicitly mentioned that their romantic drive is poor, which leads them to live rather individualistic lives (even if they are a part of community), with relationships being rare. This leads to low fertility of elves, which, in consequence, has made their race almost extinct.

It's just a part of the lore. No need to seethe over it. Frieren is asexual and it's canon. She can like other folks, or even feel love towards them. However, her way of experiencing it or expressing it is different than non-asexual people. It was SOYmel's fault to choose Platonic, unrequited love, instead of actually talking to Frieren like a proper adult he was.

I guess a lot of fans raging over this trait of Frieren are either overly excited shippers, or just have no idea what does it mean to be asexual.

The only problem with this is that it makes the writing for the story bad. Species of any kind have at least some form of sexual (or reproductive) drive. All living organisms of any kind don't evolve in a way that would make them go extinct. Elves do typically have less of a sexual drive than humans do in most fantasy worlds, but not to the point of near extinction.
Go read Sousou no Frieren and One Piece they're the best thing ever

Even if you were to assume it's same as our world with evolution, evolution is not intelligent design. If one thing leads to survival but not eliminate reproduction at some point in life that trait can be passed on including a low sex drive. In time that could have lead to a rapid decline. Plus this world has demons in it which likely killed a lot of elves and if you thin the population enough paired with a low sex drive it greatly holds off when they will reproduce.

Like I explained in an earlier post if elves reproduced at the rate of any other species the planet would be packed with nothing but elves. In this world the elves are essentially immortal where they seemingly dont even know their own lifespan so it is perfectly logical they would not desire to be in any hurry to reproduce. They would use up all the earth's resources if there was too many of them.

@Bolona07 What are you confused about? I'm just telling you that asexual is not a gender. I think you're confused about what asexual means. It doesn't affect how you reproduce. It just means you don't have a sexual attraction to people.

@WaffleMaster89 Oh, I just pointed out earlier how this anime's canon sees the topic of sexuality and fertility of the Elvish people. I don't deny that this particular aspect of the story we are currently talking about was really poorly done in this show. It's not lame or overly simplified. It's just an object; a mere plot device used in a half-baked way. I just pointed out earlier how the canon sees the topic of the sexuality of elves.

It might have been confusing for people familiar with many fantasy universes, but not only, since its major flaw came from the presentation, not the topic itself. You know, when watching an anime placing emphasis on, among other elements, longevity in relation to passing time, you'd expect to see something slightly more complex than what we got in "Sousou no Frieren". I'm not talking about detailed descriptions as if they were taken from a saga consisting of several fantasy novels, but come on. A small explanation could really do the work. I refuse to believe that with all the social awkwardness coming from Fern and mostly Frieren, not anyone, like Stark, ever asked about details on why, say, meeting Kraft, another elf, was so special.

"The Witcher" saga has a theme of elves being on the verge of extinction, which is done very well there. Even if we exclude all the details about it, and focus only on the most general info about this aspect of that universe, we will see a miles better explanation of that part of the lore, with a way better presentation of it as well.

But nope, individualism, lack of romantic relationships - all of that caused the situation when only several elves are left in the world, lol. Heck, there was potential with making demons play a crucial role in the fall of the Elvish people, i.e. by mentioning that they regularly attacked Elvish villages in the past, knowing there wouldn't be any serious resistance. Something that would add even more depth to Frieren's hate towards demons. on the regular demon attacks on elves that couldn't protect themselves.

@Adnash isnt it kind of implied that demons did attack elven villages? Order demon king gave to demons that attacked frierens village was to eliminate all elves. Edit: Actually dont answer this, just know you are making assumptions way too early

Well later in the manga it was rather clearly shown that Himmel loved Frieren and she could love him.

I have a theory. Elves live for a very long time and even if you take into account Fireren age, as an elf she is emotionally a kid (teenager entry point), which is why she doesn't pay attention to romance and similar matters.

Or we go to the typical standard. So when you are aware that you will basically live for 80,000+ years, you don't really feel the need to love someone, be in a relationship or have children. Well, why do you need them?
@Saygram As an aroace person, I feel the need to let you know that aroace people can indeed enter romantic relationships. It's just rare; just as it's described with the elves.

Kind of like how asexual people can still get it on, some aromantic people can still love people romantically. It's kinda hard to wrap your head around, but it is how it works. All aromatics is is a lack of romantic *attraction.*

No, there is no confirmation in fact of this. Trying to force LGBTQ+ representation in Anime is weird. Stop it.

Freiren mentioned in one of the episodes, that elves have naturally very low sex drive, which is the reason why there are so few of them. Not sure if that makes her asexual, because it wasn't confirmed that she is not capable of feeling any sexual arousal at all, not that Frieren is an anomaly amongst the elves.
