okay so i should start by saying that mob is 101% my personal favorite anime, so I'm obviously quite biased. however, I've tried multiple times to pinpoint any weak point and come up with some sort of criticism but i seriously can't find anything wrong with the series. mob is, in my mind, the perfect anime, but i can't tell if this is because of my personal love for the series or if it's genuinely structured as amazingly as i perceive it to be.

please share any criticisms that you may have for the series (aside from dumb stuff like "uhh i don't like the shade of yellow used for mob's buttons"). while i doubt that any anime will ever top mob in my mind, i definitely want to hear any negatives that people may have just to even out my bias.

It’s my 4th favorite anime so I might also be pretty biased but I can’t think of any real criticisms besides maybe not liking Ritsu at all as a character. It’s truly a Masterpiece of Fiction

Personally I didn't think it was that funny but since I also didn't think OPM was funny I'm just going with the author's style of humor isn't for me.
Reigen was super annoying to me so when most say he's the best character in the entire show I thought he was the worst.
In terms of plot it didn't feel like there was a definitive start or end, it kind of just started and ended without any sort of closure even though it was fully adapted.
I also felt mislead by the intro scene for season 1 because most of the show was nothing like that.

I’m a fan of Mob Psycho but my biggest criticism is the lack of character design/development beyond Mob and arguably Reigen. I wish we got a little more fleshed out about other people, rather than just making them seem like bullet points in Mob’s story.

Yes, they're all important things as well... But the most important thing is responsibility for your own actions.

objectively, in my opinion, not really.

Some ppl might not like the artsyle or humor but that's subjective. Other stuff is likewise small or again, subjective, like the pace of S3, the ailen ep, how quick the last ep felt, or potentially how a certain character is reintroduced in it.

But... it's thematically airtight and one of the few shonen that I would call NECESSARY due to its pertinent themes related to gender but also the shonen genre itself.

Therefore it's categorically good, with a presentation that, if you're not a complete bigot, pushes it to great. To my knowledge, no other TV shonen, maybe even anime, has used paint-on-glass techniques. It has Nakamura and Kameda action scenes. It has a soundtrack by Kenji Kawaii. It's aesthetic difference highlights its important thematic one, the list goes on.

So I would say gripes is the most you can ding it for. Subjectively valid, but objectively non-consequential.

emotional repression is a serious issue for boys (and men) across the world.

The world teaches boys to bottle it up, and to act a certain way. Mob Psycho, in part, shows us the folly in that.

maybe it’s just me but i honestly thought that most if not all of the characters introduced got decent introductions and conclusions. i will admit that a lot of them didn’t exactly delve deep, but i feel like that can be attributed to how short mob really is in comparison to other shows with similar amounts of content.

a few examples of characters i think had pretty good development would be:

the scars (started evil and then ended up getting jobs and showed up later in the story)

the body improvement club (they didn’t get too much growth on their own, it was more how mob and the viewer saw them. they started off imposing and one-dimensional but ended up being really supportive of mob and helped a lot in his growth)

hanazawa (i know he’s a main character but i think that he was probably the one to develop the most outside of like mob and reigen; he started off similar to the scars in thinking that he was special and then was humbled by mob before becoming friends with him and helping him later on)

like i said though, i definitely don’t think that most of the characters got super deep development like in re:zero or a similar show, but i still appreciate how most of them had at least a little bit of growth.

bruh i don’t see how me asking what peoples criticisms of the show nowadays are instead of looking at what people used to think of the show is considered coping… i’m still asking for criticism either way, i just want to get the more modern view

okay okay that makes more sense i totally agree. i’ve heard multiple stories of people watching the show and ending up changing their lives to a certain degree based off of mob’s growth just because of how much they relate with him

i agree with this. i really liked everything in the ep leading up to the aliens appearing which is why i guess i mentally glossed over it, but the alien stuff is really weird and out of place.

Idk why people being disrespectful on this discussion-

As for criticisms I mean some of the mini arcs don’t feel entirely necessary like the Dragger. The whole getting hit by a car/cat sequence for the final arc was a little too convent.

Outside of specific things, in general most things in the series are good with just a couple things that actively bothered me, perhaps Mob’s school environment should have been explored a little bit more? Or X side character should have gotten an arc. Maybe a couple jokes weren’t that effective? Overall you really have to look in the margins to harshly criticize the series.

It can get too episodic sometimes, there's cut content from the manga, stakes can get low since no one dies or they get brought back to life, comedy might not hit for some and villains might feel like they got converted to the good side too easily.

Artstyle is very hit or miss, personally I dislike it.
No cute girls in the show (heresy).
The blonde wig guy was annoying and had too much screentime.
The scammer guy was unlikeable.
Show felt incomplete, many characters weren't fleshed out.
And the plot wasn't really that interesting.

In my opinion, Dimple should have stayed dead, like him coming back for a second made sense, but he had an amazing send off. That part where he came back could have been closure for the three of them, actually getting to say goodbye and stuff

S1 was amazing, then it gradually declines a bit and I am not a fan of the ending.
S2 boss fight was a bit of a let down. Another fight (I cant remember correctly but it was in the middle of S2) also had good build up but was pointless. Some characters became irrelevant.
S3 was the worst for me. I didnt like the ending. It felt like Mob didnt improve much even though he did. I take romance relationships in an anime seriously and Mob didnt meet my expectations.
Also, the art and animation is good. Not extraordinary good, but good.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

I was looking forward to the opening fight scene during the whole show (was not a manga or webcomic reader) and when we never got it I was very disappointed. Also, no repercussions or mention of the S3 incident (not that I can remember) when mob went uncontrollable.

These issues aren't a huge deal for me, but last season, people were complaining about how there were no consequences for Mob going full Mob and destroying Seasoning city or how the Alien episode seemed like filler.

dimple shouldnt have come back. i felt that dimples death was a massive emotional turning point in mobs story and dimple coming back made it feel a little hollow.

i also felt that a lot of the time they were shoving the 'learn this lesson' stuff down your throat a little too much and i would have enjoyed it more if it left more unspoken for you to figure out yourself.

that being said mob is one of the best shows ive ever seen 10/10 fantastic show

Honestly I liked the alien episode, also I’m pretty sure the character consented (I’d have to rewatch it though). I thought mostly the whole series was amazing however my biggest problem is that they brought back dimple. Dimple dying was so sad and heartbreaking but also made sense within the story, it was my favorite episode by far. Bringing him back was the biggest mistake the series made.

I don’t think the ending is really all it’s hyped up to be. The big resolution with Reigan was really already resolved in season 2, so it felt like a cheap rehash that should not have the impact the show’s direction portrayed it to have.

More on the subjective side: the side story with the aliens was pretty boring for me. I just didn’t care.

And the finale to Season 2 was a bit too forceful in pushing a message I think. The villain was cheapened a bit because of it.

I still think it’s a great series overall though. Definitely worthy of being a classic.

for me, mob's one of those shows which doesn't have any major problems but it's not particularly great either. like the fights are cool but i don't have any favorite characters (besides shimazaki maybe because of his sick ability), s3 felt like a filler most of the time and it could've had a much better ending.

I can understand that one’s art style looks looks kind of janky, but I don’t think the plot was too mediocre because its main theme was that people can actually change and I think it portrayed that well. The only voice acting that I thought was mid was the actors they replaced some of the English ones with in S3 due to Crunchyroll fuckery. The seasons before that actually had pretty good dubs imo (especially Reigen) and the jap voice acting was good as usual. But my only other criticism really is that S3 just didn’t hit as hard as S1 or S2

Exactly. Many a people just don't like Mob Psycho due to it's graphics. Solid arguments are given by very less people. They are hating the whole series just because of graphics and Alien episode.
In some years, their favourite Anime's graphics may also get outdated, so will they start hating it?
