| Ugh, hope the identity of Dragona gets cleared up from their own perspective asap... like I'm happy we get rep outside of the typical guys just on a base level, but I just KNOW their gender will spark endless debate (crossdresser vs trans vs some people arguing NB maybe) until and even after it gets cleared up... always such a pain to deal with. Even speaking as someone who liked to mess around with gender expression for multiple years of my life, that whole discussion is walking on eggshells and I'm not excited for it >.< And yeah, one of the couple most recent chapters of Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan referenced Covid too... Rohan is ok isolating, but feels like the restricted travel impacts his research and he starts to feel a little stir-crazy. You also see him in a facemask, and he apparently got a puppy. Which kinda messes with my mind because, with the events of Stone Ocean, I figured that the Rohan spin-off was perpetually in the 90s or around 2011 at the latest, but I guess not?? "The Jojo Universe lives" AU Confirmed?? Though I guess here isn't the place to discuss that, it's just seeing Covid being referenced again. Oh yeah and total nostalgia for Guns n Roses - a little before my time, but my family was in love with it. Calling Jodio's Stand November Rain hits home <3 |

| While Jojolion was an obvious reimaging of Part 4 Jojolands is ambiguous about which part it's based on. The crime and gang activities are drawing some heavy parallels with P5 but according to the family tree the lead Jojo is apparently replacing Jotaro in P3 and the setting is slightly reminiscent of P6 what with it being a tropical state in USA. I guess this is going to be a bit of a Jojo hodgepodge with many nods to all the previous parts. Something about Jodio seems weird though, like how he's narrating his own story here. Feels like he might be the villain after all. First he's named JoDIO, then his stand isn't a punchy humanoid (it looks like something an antagonist would have), and his ambitions aren't very noble. At least the way he's trying to accomplish them is definitely bordering on immoral. I think the guy they're robbing for the diamond might end up as the real protagonist like how Gyro sidelined the real Jojo of P7. |

The MC is finally a Jojo and a Dio Dragona, Paco "Laburantes"?? wtf is up with these names, I love them lol So I believe this is the first time we have a character narrating the story and not a 3rd-person narrator, interesting change. And organize crime it is, that's cool. Can't wait for chapter 2! I wonder who the Japanese person is! |

| Dope first chapter! There is a lot to unpack. First of all, I think the most glaring observation I have is that Araki is putting all of his cards on the table at once. The story takes absolutely no time at all to get started, and we are introduced to our main players, their Stands (names and abilities and all,) and their first objective. Comparing this pilot chapter to the ones in the first 8 parts is remarkable. It looks like Araki has a very clear plan for what he wants to accomplish in this part (that isn't to say he didn't in others, but it is being laid flat out here,) and he is rearing and ready to jump into it as fast as possible. If you subscribe to the theory that he was totally burnt out by the end of JoJolion, then this makes sense that he is excited to jump right into the new story so quick. Besides that, I actually am interested to see where this story goes. I am madly in love with Dragona Joestar already, she is precious and everything to me. Her Stand is pretty interesting, and I am interested in its function a lot. It kind of reminds me of Crazy Diamond's ability to rearrange things when it does but this has a lot more practical and precise use, which is really good for being sneaky and doing illegal shit like Dragona and Jodio will be doing constantly. Jodio himself is pretty interesting as well. He is very immature but he's kind of all set in his life, the way him and Dragona protect their mother with the work they do. I don't really get his whole "mechanism" thing yet, but I think it is just his way of saying "this is how the world works." I've seen some people equate it to the "flow" or "fate" or what-have-you but I'm not quite sure it's the same. His Stand looks AWESOME, and his power is pretty interesting, reminds me of Vitamin C a lot. Paco's design is great, and his Stand power is damn freaky as shit. Another one I can see being used practically for their whole crime thing they have going on. The jumpsuit kid also is really goofy (they call him the wild card, too, so I have no clue what his function in the group will be.) I have the feeling he might be Meryl's son or something and that's why she brought him along? Speaking of Meryl, she sure is an interesting person. She has something about her that we don't know yet so I am going to stay open minded about what role she might play in the story. She seems rather imposing, and she knows a lot about the business they are in, so she could be connected to something deeper and darker. I hope the antagonist of this part isn't a crime boss again that would be lame as shit. Speaking of connections to Part 5, people comparing Jodio to Giorno make me want to shove my head through a brick wall. They have virtually no similarities besides BARELY the business that they share together, and maybe the way Jodio has "dio" in his name, like that fucking means anything. Whatever! As for the Japanese tourist with the diamond, this seems to me like this is a trap lol. Either set up by Meryl or she fell for it too, because this is way too enticing. As for who it is, I want in my heart for it to be grown up Joshu, but if not, it is probably another Higashikata. My best bet is Tsurugi -- but I am telling you right now there is no shot in hell that it is Josuke lol. Back to what I was saying before about how Araki started this part so open; it really seems like he's trying to set this up like he knows exactly where it will go. "This is the beginning," the repeated use of "this is the story of...." and repeating Jodio's motives at least a couple of times. Then there's introducing most of (what I assume) is the main cast, their Stand abilities and names, and their motivations... For one chapter this really is a lot! I quite enjoyed this, if you read this whole review uh thanks lol. Also, Araki you sack of shit, you said in JJL 110 that Joseph only had one daughter!! Who the fuck is Barbara-Ann!!!  |

I'd call Giorno my favourite of the protagonists these days so like, very cool to see a revisit of similar ideas, however he already feels super different, very openly expressive and cocky! Also, while it's following crime, we're doing more a heist story instead of a mafia narrative, seems cool! So excited to see where the story goes, what the themes will be, who opponents will be (who they'll be stealing from!), gah, I'm very eager, really cool start. Fucking awesome Stand Jodio has! Woah! |

| just finished jojolion a couple hours and now on to jojolands and this already has a better start than JJL had. "a story about how i became filthy rich!" okay okay i'm listening hooked bro. now i ain't gay, but jodio's bro is fine af bruh. haven't fallen this hard for a trap since haku all the way back in naruto. that cop had all the fun smh lol. we got dua lipa, covid and uber yo araki is hip af. modern setting and first time i'm gonna try keeping up with jojo's monthly, this should be interesting. praying the rest of this is also better than jojolion cause that shit took way too long to get good. also colored version goes hard as fuck, as always. yasuho still better than every character we've seen here so far ong. |
