I agree as well. The experience has said to me that the really good shows are the short ones... at least for me
I really enjoy animes with deep characters and story - the art is also good, but not so important - in which you have to think to really enjoy the show, and in this, only the series of 12-13 episodes have been succesful - a few exceptions around the 26-30, more episodes than that, is anime for watch, not anime for think :P-

"Pure perfection has no past. That is how you live perfectly."
"How can you say you are a phantom?"

Hajime no Ippo is a great anime and it has 76 episodes. Of course it has the advantage of having a SHITLOAD of source material.

Just look at the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise. The first series was OK, but declined after they deviated from the story of the manga while the second series gets better as it goes since it follows the manga almost perfectly. So I have to agree with some here that longer series maybe have to much filler which makes it decrease in quality.

I do agree to a certain extent that when an anime goes on for too long (esp above 100), it tends to deteriorate in terms of enjoyment etc. It's not easy to maintain the audience's interest with just lots of fight scenes, fillers (Bount Arc -____-) and emo-ness (ahem). Plus, most of the time, the anime can be shortened by reducing the length of battles and instead moving on with the story.

I disagree, I enjoy many longer anime but I know that some are pretty damned awful.

Naruto anyone lol. If that had stopped at 52 instead of being dragged out I would love it but there is so much filler and dead stares as they stretch episodes out that it's just no fun to watch.

Some longer anime are good though, Dragonball Z is one of my favourites and its 276 episodes long. I know alot of that is dragged out but the good stuff is really well done. Soul Eater is a good 51 episodes that is good pretty much all the way.

My favourite anime is all around the 26 episode mark, Kanon, Higurashi and Clannad all fall into this category.

Well, Dragonball Z is the very odd exception, simply because when you're watching it, three episodes seem like one. I too am a fan.

My favorite anime are usually below 30 episodes.

I don't mind if it went up to 50, but it MUST be split into several seasons to ensure QUALITY and WRITING time.

I don't think how good or bad an anime is depends solely on the length of the series. To make a generalization like that is like saying the best anime characters have blue hair, or something like that.

I find my favorite series to be always cut short. Like there's a cliffhanger in the end man, and they don't plan to make another season out of it. So pissed off.

I disagree
cuz not like all short anime is gd, also all long anime is gd
some short anime (only 12 eps) r so boring, and not interesting, but Baccano is really great!
long anime (+100 eps to me) , some just boring too, and the story keep repeating...., but Bleach is awesome (DB, YYH, Conan...)
but I prefer rewatching short anime, its not take much time ^^

I prefer short series, they take less time to watch. And generally, I like them better than longer series because they don't have a lot of time to get repititive.

Of course, my definition of short is anywhere from 4-27 episodes long.

I like short series if I'm lazy to get into a new anime, but then again somehow some of the animes have crappy endings.

For example, I loved Jyu Oh Sei...

However, I love long anime series because then you get so into them. For example, I love One Piece, and even animes with 100+ episodes.

Definitely depends on show. I loved Kino no Tabi but didn't feel like needed more. Also loved Hajime no Ippo and (especially after second season) almost cried when there was no more to watch.

Completely untrue. There are plenty of excellent double cours series, and a number of great triple+ ones too. Though it is true that *in general* long series are rather generic kodomo or shounen stuff, there are always exceptions. GTO was 47 episodes, for instance. LoGH and Monster are widely renowned (though I've yet to finish either >.>) Death Note was three cours though IMHO it went to shit after the second. Kenichi was 50 episodes and is a brilliant comedy. I could go on.

The point is, there are lots of great series over a 13 episodes.

GTO has 43 episodes unless you're counting Shonan Junai Gumi.

I wonder if Hetalia counts, since the episodes are shorter than average.

It's a personal opinion thing, but for me, I think that 22 - 26 is a good number. Longer series tend to bore me, with a few exceptions. I, personally, don't think I could watch something like Bleach or Naruto that have entire story arcs of nothing significant.

This really depends on the anime...
Tho for me, 24-26 is fine as long as there are no fillers. Reason why I put both Bleach and Naruto is because of fillers...
Enjoyed GTO, Gundam Seed and Destiny and all has over 40 eps

The length of anime has nothing to do with how good it is imo....
short animes can be crap, and most of my favorites are 20+ ep long.
but long animes can also be crap and I like some of the short ones....
No sig :(

That's what did it for me on Bleach and Naruto. The fillers were just to much and ruined it, ever if both series are over 300 episodes each. If the filler were removed that still leaves around 200+ episodes taken directly from the manga.

So then the question really is, how long is to long for a manga? Afterall, 95% of animes are based off the manga (if not directly using them as the source).

But it's more than what is classed as a "short" anime which is what this thread is about.

I can't deny that some shorter anime are better than longer ones, but that's hardly true for all of them, so I would have to disagree.

I have to agree with some people that as I've gotten older I've lost patience for the longer series. But that doesn't mean shorter shows are better. There are a lot of shows where if they tried to condense it into 12 episodes they'd probably implode all over themselves. Like the Twelve Kingdoms is around 45 or so episodes, and even that wasn't long enough. Most fans ended it thinking, "But...I want more..." I think what really matters here isn't the length, but how they use however much time they have.

There are plenty of longer, bloated series with lots of meaqningless filler.

There are also plenty of short, unfulfilling series that don't resolve anything and don't go anywhere.

Neither is inherently superior over the other.
