I'm surprised no said Arifureta yet.. Compared to the others that's mentioned here at least they didn't get their introduction gutted.

Despite it being a decent anime by itself, the Umineko adaptation just doesn't work in the context of the VN. It would take way more effort to do a good anime of the VN than this.
But as I said: if you do not read the VN, then it's still okay. With the VN it is a nightmare as it destroys any attempt of explanation of the murders.

Though I haven't seen Umineko, I formed the same impression after reading reviews. I'm thinking I should give the anime a chance. I know I'm not likely to be bothered by the same flaws as everybody else, and Umineko is so much scarier and more thrilling than Higurashi.

At least it's like a really condensed recap, but it felt too much like the Higurashi anime which didn't fit with the more mysterious feel of Umineko. They nailed Higurashi, but just missed with this one.

What exactly do you mean when you say the Umineko anime feels like Higurashi? Because I think that may be a plus...

COTE is no doubt the worst one I have seen
And Tower of god too, tho it was on the better side it did skip over a lot of character developments and info about the Shinsu system

By that I meant it was more horror than mystery, while for me the VN was more the opposite.

All three of the webtoon adaptations, especially God of High School

Also The Promised Neverland S2 I guess, although everything in the manga after the first arc wasn't the best anyways. But still a disservice.

As someone who LOVES both, Higurashi is more of a horror/thriller with some mystery to it, Umineko is more of a nuanced mystery with some horror/thriller thrown in. You miss a lot of the best part of Umineko if you present it as a horror/thriller. And perhaps more importantly, Umineko is very intricately detailed and it’s better as a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle not as a 10 piece puzzle

sailor moon crystal comes to mind. it's funny, because back before the series came out, i remember wishing for a more faithful adaptation to sailor moon.... only to realize that a lot of the changes the 90s anime made were for the better.

I think it has to be the Tokyo Ghoul Anime. The first season is decently adapted but everything after that is horrific. Tokyo Ghoul Root A is almost completely filler with some canon stuff in it. Tokyo Ghoul re first season is also very poorly adapted but it is not as bad as Root A. Tokyo Ghoul re second season is one of the worst adaptations out there. The entirety of TGR2 is rushed, one episode even adapted multiple volumes of the manga. The anime is completly different from the manga, it shouldn't even be compared. Tokyo Ghoul manga is one of the best seinens i have ever read and is also considered a masterpiece by a lot of people. So if you want to get into TG i would definitely recommend the manga over the anime.

Can't really say since I don't usually read the source for the anime I watch. One of the reasons I would though is if I was really interested in the story the anime version just dropped without fully adapting which could qualify as a serious flaw if it never got another season.

Not because it's the worst adaptation (not when the anime that doesn't exist exists), but because it represents everything wrong with most vn adaptations.

Dull pacing, skipping important scenes, copy-pasting chunks of dialogue that isn't even relevant to the story, mixing elements of every route and anime original bs, then you add the crappy animation and you get a trainwreck like this.

Honestly the only reason it has any defenders is because it was some people's introduction to the series, I can't believe how badly DEEN messed it up when they did the Higurashi anime that same year and it was quite decent.

so we're just not gonna mention the dragon

I feel like it needs to be mentioned. It was a literal offense. wtf DEEN

Any hentai adapted by Queen Bee. At this point I only watch them so I can read the source material because the stories they adapt are actually good. The animation looks like badly redrawn colored in manga panels.

We all know the answer is Berserk 2016.

That animation...woof!

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

Arifureta is so butchered by the anime adaptation, especially the 1st two episodes, what even was that.

At least Berserk 2016 had just visual problem, unlike Arifureta who has both plot and visual problems.

Big Order: The manga was just ok to begin with, but Assread managed to fuck it up by making it worse.

Kamisama Dolls: Way too faithful to the manga.

Tokyo Ghoul: Rushed the manga to oblivion.

The Promised Neverland: S2 was so bad I dropped it after the 5th episode. S1 is great.

Brynhildr in the Darkness: It was cringe.
Pandora Hearts is the best manga ever made and deserves an anime reboot

Ex Arm is taking the crown for me. I thought Berserk 2016-17 was bad enough. But then came Ex Arm which is one of the most unfaithful adaptations I have ever seen, both in terms of art (which is obvious) and the story as well. Now, I know Berserk 2016-17 was unfaithful in those aspects as well, but Ex Arm took unfaithfulness to the next level. Out of all the translated manga chapters I read so far (36), there are so many alterations to plot points and it doesn't make sense anymore.

Every worst anime I've watched/dropped:

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry, Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut - trash-tier story, and shallow characters/fights

Honorable mentions would be:
Eromanga-sensei, Keijo, Sin Nanatsu no Taizai, Saekano, Kiss Him not me, Jaku-chara Tomozaki, Fruits Basket(mid-2nd season until The Final) and Ex-Arm

Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm was the only best game adaptation i've watched as of this moment...
But P5 isn't that bad but i dropped because of personal issues

Caligula was the best example of bad adaptation

Well I would say a lot of what Madhouse makes on the sole fact that they never finish anything they do some big ones that deserved more are Claymore (manga is really good hopefully it gets a full adaptation), Black Lagoon and No Game No Life.

Other obvious ones are Tokyo Ghoul and The Promised Neverland Season 2.

Personal ones are Chivalry of a failed knight, the god of high school, the original stay night route (hopefully ufotable remakes it), Fruits Basket the final season has been a let down for me at least, Kengan Asura, one punch man second season, and Akame ga Kill.

Any time you need to condense a story that takes its reader about 80-100 hours to complete into a 52 episode show, there is a lot of crucial material that will end up being omitted thus ruining its presentation. Umineko would be one of those series that would be too boring and long-winded to watch if it was fully adapted. Just read the SN, people.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

Berserk (1997 was pretty chill but even that left off key characters and if you didn't read the manga then it's good but if you read it then it will feel weird, Golden age arc movies were good and showed most of the things it required, FUCK THE BERSERK 2016)

Blame!!! (got one netflix movie which is ok but it not even come close to it's epicness)

Seven Deadly Sins (After season 2)

Tokyo Ghoul
