Very strong ending, I was losing hope after the Humtpy Dumpty arc but this made me remember why I liked the anime at the beginning.

Nice plot twist with Alis (I refuse to call him Alice) being the one who died and pretty emotional scene with him staying behind and Ai crying because she couldn't save his world/fulfill his wish.

I was confused about the ending and I do think they should've explained why Alis was able to come back, just one voice over line with Ai saying something like "I wish for Alis to get the happy ending he deserves" or anything would've been enough, it's indeed a little upsetting it's only clear in the novel. Apart from that I'm grateful for the person who explained the deal with Alis having a body and Dee not having one on page 3 or 4 in the thread, it definitely clears things up.

Beautiful series... especially the soundtrack, visuals, and particularly the ending theme. Great, emotional arcs with solid characters, all with their own elucidations.

Quite an amazing experience to watch.

it was a wonderful show with beautiful potential, sweet soundtrack, and original plot, until it got hit by an arrow in the knee and made a mind-effing final arc with a trainwreck ending *choo-choo* @_@

and with that "fin" statement telling there wont be a continuation(anime-wise), i kept asking now: what the heck did i just watched? *pulls hair*

but i guess, people will have an open interpretation about it, i just have a terrible perspective regarding it

TRIPLE A WAS CALLED.
(Ai Alfa Astin) (OR THATS WHAT I CALL HER. K? K.)
Thank gods. Cuz Alice lives...thanks to her.
Ironically.. the Gravekeeper who sends those to a peaceful death, saves Alice.
I wonder if Alice starts dating one of em o: (Ai or Dee that is)

Some of the moments were confusing but we got through it!

Not sure how to feel about this series. It was certainly nice and had some very interesting features. However, I don't think they really did a good job with the pacing, which may as well be an issue with the adaptation and the series itself.

Very nice soundtracks and gorgeous animation do make up for it, though. My final rating is 6.5/10.

Despite what most people might say, this anime is pretty solid, you just have to give it some thought.
It's actually rather simple. It's all about the wishes. Ai's father wish to die happily, the classe's wish to return to their good lives forever and Ai's wish to bring Alice back to live (I gotta admit, at first I didn't really understand this one).
Anyway, amazing ending episode, awesome anime

*Edit* After watching it again, I guess that I could also have been Celica to revive Alice (since she was the one daughter that denied her mother's wish to kill all the humans, therefore, wanting them to live). Well, I guess that's also a possibility

I just read the whole thread looking for someone who even remembered Celica!!! ever since they explained the twin situation I thought that it only made sense she would be the opposite from her twin.

But then again maybe she just wished for a loving mother and she was normal, since they didn't hint her acting strange or anything (well other than being able to locate scar). I did get the impression that it was Ai's wish being granted that saved Alis/Alice in the end, but I would be lying if I said I was not expecting Celica to save him somehow.

Oh and I forgot who mentioned it but I also think it's messed up Yuri/Julie is replacing his dead wife and daughter with scar and celica O.o

I can't see the point of the school arch for the life of me, I plan to re-watch this show someday skipping that and probably enjoying it a lot more.

So it was Alis who died and not Dee. Why are people saying that Dee died? Wow. The feels were strong when Alis was gonna disappear but then he reappeared alive in the real world. Why? That needed an explanation. Still I loved it. "Why'd you have to save me?" The ED goes with everything at the the end of every episode if you ask me. So good! I'm definitely gonna read the LN/manga. I would love another season. It seems like the LN/manga is done. Great episode!

Wow. That perfect ending! (For me. Haha)
Sht. I looooove it! >.<

I was expecting it to be a tragic since that' s the series implied from the start, but wow. When i saw that Alice was standing beside her? Shhtt! It COLORed up my world. Hahaha.

There are a lot of contradictories in the end esp with Alice case. Still, i dont care. I got the ending that i want and that's what matters most.

I guess, Ai found her dream! >.<

10/10. Wish for more!!! ;)))

Don't really understand the love for this, people throwing words like 'emotional', 'tragic', 'complex', 'lovable', when really this show just has really shoddy writing. I mean, c'mon people, this is the epitome of 'it happened because x'.
The first 6 episodes were okay, writing wasn't too bad, it was just cliche` but for the most part it was intriguing, I really liked the theme of God having abandoned the Earth, wish there was a bit more of that than what actually transpired.
However, once they got into the academy, everything just got worse. For starters, a lot of things are introduced without any reasoning, 'we all have powers because we wished for it', which is just super slack, if it was that easy then everyone would be doing it, hell, the way wishes work in this world a group of people could just wish for the entire world to go back to the way it was, back within God's sight. The only explanation for anything is 'I wished for it, and it happened', and it gets a bit ridiculous.
For the last few episodes, I don't really understand how everyone thought it was Dee who died, and there isn't an explanation as to why Dee is a ghost outside, the only thing I can think of is due to Alice having a body outside (everyone else disappeared, whereas Alice was found dead) he had a body, but it's, again, flimsy writing.
The relationship between Ai and Alice seemed really forced, she honestly didn't give two shits about the guy until the last 5 minutes, besides her 'I'm nice to everybody' personality, so it didn't really feel very fulfilling.
Cue 'why did you have to save me' Ai wishing for him to be alive, which, hey, if she could do that she should have wished for her mother/father to still be alive, somehow I would have thought her relationship with them was more grounded than the one with Alice.

Anyway, was a toss-up between 4/10 or 5/10, gave it a 4.5 so rounding to 5. Very unsatisfying show with really, really idiotic writing in some parts. The characters were half decent, but at the same time they were very predictable and sometimes boring. Like I said earlier, God abandoning the world is a great, great premise and theme, I was really looking forward to an interesting show, but none was found.

I don't know what happened in last arc. I think that it had no sense. I mean, that Alice from the past was dead and his reincarnation was in the loop. That may make sense but why was Dee a ghost in normal world? There was no reason for her to be a ghost. I just can't seem to understand it. I'm sure that she's been alive for all this time, in the loop and in the normal world, but why was she a ghost? Did i miss something?

My only explanation was that because she had no body in the real world, ie her presence was inside the alternate world, she was a ghost, compared to Alice whose body was found dead in the real world, he had a body to use. Although it doesn't really make sense because that would mean their were two Alice bodies in the real world while Dee was only a ghost. It would make more sense the other way around, but the ghost has to be the cute girl!

How in the hell did Ai save Alice?????

Plus, I agree with what Justwon said.....their relationship/friendshit was super forced....we get yet another anime with the main character who has a huge friendship boner.....

They should of made Ai's dad the main character of the anime and had him live.....

AM I SUPPOSED TO FANTASIZE ABOUT THE ENDING O.O

I HATE THOSE TYPES OF ENDINGS!!

Esp. when it just ends as randomly and as short-live as that... like you only get 3-5 seconds to accept the fact and then realize the series is completely over.

Spending 2 episodes to build up to the climax just to have it changed totally with no explanations given and forfeiting everything it was trying to explain and going against its own plot, this last episode has been amazing. The last 5 seconds of this amazing anime also highlighted once again how nothing is ever explained and you better just accept it as it is.

My explanation will be that in creating this last arc, the story board team has put in so much effort into it that they created a space-reality portal into the plot itself, resulting in a totally "reset" of what they were trying to achieve. Hence everything is being reset and us, as outsiders, become unable to appreciate the beauty of it all.

If you are looking for an anime with great animation quality and soundtracks, this is the one for you.

Cool, Dee wants to destroy everything. This will help with Alis' plan.
Oh she wants to reset the world and herself? Nope, Ai and Alis are here to the rescue!

Oh, Alis died. Noo, he will disappear. (T_T) And Ai could do nothing about that.
But wait, is that Alis? How the fuck?
Good thing there are kind people who read about it. I can live in peace.

Anyway, I like the OST and the art. Too bad the story was not told the best it could have been. Still a pretty good anime, in my opinion.

For those who still wondering why Alice still survive even outside the loop world, here' the true -

"At the end, Alice is shown beside Ai, both standing in front of his grave, showing that Alice was in fact saved by Ai; her own wish to save him replacing the improper wish made by his classmates 14 years earlier that kept him alive in a closed world with a time loop." - (Source: Kami Nichi Wikia).

Great VA ensemble (seriously, I recognized alot of 'em from Fairy Tail alone), great OST (OPs and EDs are <3), great art and animation (as expected of Madhouse), great atmosphere and setting (not your usual God abandoned the world kind of route), and a solid ending. Only problem was that there were a few plot holes I wish they covered up.

Had all these feels when Ai was hugging Alice and crying and then he kisses her on the forehead and tosses her through the barrier. Then all of a sudden he was alive.

I enjoyed how this series left a lot of stuff open to interpretation and speculation.

From what I gathered, Hampnie wasn't too far off on his theory. He said that God was a moron and was granting people's wishes in unusual ways. I do think that's true, but I think the bigger issue lies with the people making those wishes. It seems like the way people picture and word their wish reflects how god interprets it.

Hampnie said "I wish these days could last forever". He didn't say anything like "I wish I was always healthy" or something. So god interpreted it in the most literal way...make him immortal at that age forever. He was later able to cancel that out with another strong wish: "wishing to die happy". Which, also happened literally after he did everything he wanted.

The class 3-4. They all made wishes with the thoughts of eternity as Dee said. So god interpreted it literally, and made their happy days in that year eternal through a loop. They didn't actually wish to save Alice though. Ai on the other hand, made a very direct wish. A wish to save Alice. Therefore, he was brought back.

So then looking back 15 years ago. When god "abandoned" the world, it seems more likely that a powerful wish was made, and whatever person, or group of people made this wish, it had to have been worded and desired in a way that made god interpret it to think that people shouldn't die and children shouldn't be born.

Anyway. Really enjoyed this. Really thought provoking. Needed more Ulla though. 8/10

I'm confused.

Dee was not dead?? It was all due to his misunderstanding? lol Then why was she a ghost outside the area before?? If my memory is not faulty, I think she was even floating in the air in previous arc.

Also why did Scar not notice Alice was dead?? I think Scar had said in previous episode she could differentiate the dead from living people by their scent.

It was unbelievable that Ai lifted Alice and Dee. I bet the creator is male. It was unconvincing a little girl was so powerful. (BTW It's Alice, not Alis, according to his name on the tombstone.)

Ai revived Alice at the end? Is he a fully living man now? Or is he like people of the city of the dead? I thought Ai wanted to save the world. But she ended up saving Alice. Did she give up the desire?

I think this arc messed up the entire series in the end. What a finale!
Dee appeared as a ghost because her physical body was still stuck in class 3-4, while Alice had a physical body outside because he was already buried by a proper gravekeeper. Therefore, his body wasn't in class 3-4 like Dee, and could appear normally since he was part of the world outside.

Dee has a physical body later on, because the world class 3-4 created had been destroyed. Her physical body was released.

Ai saved Alice by wishing intensely. In Sunday Without God, by wishing for something really badly it somehow would be granted, like how Hampnie Hambart wished to die happily besides his family, or how Alice got the ability Buzzer Beater. When Ai wished for Alice to be saved, God granted that wish, and so Alice could have a physical body outside class 3-4's world and continue to live his life.

scar didn't notice he was dead cause he wasn't a soul less body walking. It was rather a soul and a body created by wish.

Well... This ending didn't make any sense at all. I'm not even gonna start on all the points you've mentioned with Whisper being a ghost and not being able to sense that Alise is a dead. First of all, the character development sucks balls. Ai was totally okay with burying her Goddamned father, but when it comes to letting go of a guy who's been dead for 14 years and practically imprisoning over 36 thousand people? Then it's a "nooooo we caaaan't". It left so many plot holes I couldn't see ep13 in disgust.
Here's another thing. Why couldn't they be happy being stuck in world like that? If we are all going to be 100% honest, the outside world sucked. Why else would 36 thousand people agree to come to that world? Because there were no hunger, no death, no fear of knowing they've been abandoned by God. I'd honestly chosen to stay there voluntarily. Just see how peaceful everyone was. It's like throwing away heaven to live in hell. So what you had to live the same year over and over again? What is the difference between this world and Orfus? They are all in a cage, but they are all happy. There is an obvious fact that Alise can't see it, fully believing that he has imprisoned his friends, and want nothing more then to destroy it so they can move on with their lives....But what is it to move on with? What is it out there in the real world for them? They can't get any kids, and if they stay there they'll grow up and eventually die. Why everyone went willingly with Alise's suicide attempt makes no sense to me.

Despite what I viewed as a great premise with poor execution, i.e. God having abandoned humanity (interesting) yet the show revolving around conveniently granted wishes even after being abandoned (poor execution), after the first and second arc I was still leaning towards a 6. After the final arc's conclusion though it dropped to a 4, for me. Essentially I found it to be a very poorly done paradox.
