Would Minami-ke fit under a manga with a main cast of mostly one gender? It's about 3 sisters but their is a large cast of side characters of both genders |

@Ryuoha I think you answered your own question. The main cast is the 3 sisters and the supporting cast are the side characters. The MAL entry also has it labeled as such, and since the main cast are of the same gender, it counts. |

This is sort of unrelated to the challenge but I was wondering if anyone could tell me which chapters Legend of the Legendary Heroes and Ouran Highschool Host Club leave off on if you've watched the anime. |

Bakaupdates says that Legend of the Legendary Heroes anime runs all the way through the novels. Neither the novel nor the manga have been entirely translated though, so I guess you're gonna have to just take their word for it. Ouran Host Club goes through vol 9 of 18 and is completely translate, so there is that. |

Jerkhov said: I'm lacking motivation to catch up on manga I barely started at the end of last year, if I restart them from chapter 1 can they count towards the challenge? I was only about one volume into both mob psycho 100 and nanatsu no taizai and forgot what was happening in them really, so restarting them might give me more incentive. AudioTsunami said: 6. "Is re-reading allowed?" -- Yes, you may re-read a manga you previously read but we invite you to use that time to read something you haven't read yet. Re-reading is mandatory if you want to pick up something again that you started last year or before and didn't finish. So do I have to delete the entry from my list and remake the entry? Or will reentering chapter counts as I go along still work? |
Mar 27, 2016 9:50 PM
#512
@NeverStrikes a quick read of the wiki article says that they are also portrayed as adults at some point, so I think choosing something else would be appropriate for this challenge item. @Jerkhov There's no need to delete the entry. As long as you re-read the chapters, you just add the count until you finish it and that's it. The re-read chapters won't be counted towards your "days" count though, since you can't enter partial number of re-read chapters. |

Hi, could someone recommend me a good romance manga (absolutely no BL). Preferably one that is completed and has an english translation as I don't know enough Japanese. Much appreciated. :) |

If not, Cross Game(this could work for that challenge, but it's questionable) If so, Ao Haru Ride If you want super Ecchi romance, Sundome was p good. ~~~~ I know you said absolutely no BL no matter what, and I'm not big into BL myself, but I did like Seven Days(the only BL I've read) quite a bit and it's not graphic at all. So just throwing that out there(it's also very short, probably could finish it in an hour or 2) |

Mysterious Girlfriend X is my favorite manga and you chose it for the banner, so I would really recommend it, it has a unique take on romance but I hope you can appreciate it. Dengeki Daisy has good romance but goes someplace else with its story. The World God Only Knows, what can I say.. @4evaDC Yes, alternative titles are allowed as long as you use that one in the challenge list. @asian_otaku You have your own manga list in MAL where you log everything you read and then you have a list of challenges which is the one you put in the thread where you sign up. Then in the challenge list you log what you read just this year (you will also need to include this in your MAL list). So basically, let's say you want to read Fullmetal Alchemist. You look it up in manga search and set it to Plan to Read. Then you find the manga through your library, buy it or read it online (whichever you prefer to do) and as you read it, you go to your manga list and change it from Plan to Read to Reading and log the chapters as you go on. Once you're done, you set it to Completed and then you can add it to the challenge list in the category that you chose it for. If this explanation is still not what you were asking, please elaborate more Edit: Wait. I think I got it? In the sign up, you link to your complete manga list (not a sub-list) The url is like myanimelist.net/mangalist/username. Then in that form you're using in the forum thread, you create the list of challenges that you want to use. |

@Fresh_Mint Your lowest rated on Malgraphs are Comedy and Romance but you seem to read that a lot, so I'm not sure if that's right. Other than that you have both Super Power and Martial Arts low, but the sample sizes are reall small. Shoujo is low but that isn't a genre. So you can go with something like Mujuuryoku Shounen or Kamui which are Super Power Shoujo manga. Or you can go the Martial Arts + Super Power route by reading something like Veritas(10 vols) or Dragonball/Naruto(very very long). Shinobi Life is also an option. Martial Arts romantic comedy shoujo. |

I just read the FAQs added to the first post and wanted to point out to @tsuyokunaru that Sket Dance and Nazo no Kanojo X can also be read for the "manga that was serialized from a one-shot" challenge. Sket Dance pilot chapter - Nazo no Kanojo X chapter 0. I'll try to think if other manga can fit the challenge's requirement :D I think Nisekoi could fit too, the prototype was published in this collection of short stories. |

Would really appreciate your help :) » Read a manga recommended to you by another Manga Reading Challenge participant - I am free to any suggestion but the manga must Completed with scanlations and less than 100 chapters. Any Genre is cool with me. » Read a manga that focuses on non-romantic relationships - Does Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro count, since the protagonists have a Detective-Assistant relationship. And can you suggest me some more for this challenge. » Read a manga based on real event or person - Does Chikan Otoko count. Because I heard it was based on a real story on 2ch. Hello everyone, I hope the challenge is going well for you. As for me, I should be able to go back to reading more manga and continue the challenge actively in the near future. As such, I'll try to post some impression of the things I have read and try to discuss about various manga related stuff that could be interesting to talk about in this thread. It would be nice to have more return about the readings of the challenge members and communicate about good stuff you want to recommend to others or discuss about. It just so happen that I completed a manga today, Bokura no Hentai (didn't read it for the challenge though since I started it before the beginning of the year), with the last chapter's scan that was released earlier. I would like to recommend it to anybody that hold some interest in the gender bender department. It talk about cross dressing, transexuality and subject like that with care and a lot of delicacy, especially through the first volumes that were quite strong in my opinion (and also pretty dark sometimes by the way, if I recall). Even if it's different, I think people that have read or watched Hourou Musuko should take a peek at it, because it should interest them. So everyone, did you read something for the challenge that was really great and you would recommend to other challengers ? |

I've really had this on the backburner cause I'm been caught up with the Anime Challenge, the Anime Watching Challenges Club stuff, and general life stuff. So far I have only read Stray Dog, Goshiki No Fune, Giganto Makhia, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood, Omoide Emanon, Virgin Na Kankei, Zero, and Innocent. I'm currently working on Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendency. I'm about 2/3rds through. Innocent, Emanon, and Zero are probably the best reads. Each are pretty interesting in their own ways. Dullboy rec'd me Zero and Emanon I think, and the both were rather interesting. One was character piece on a rather sadistic boxer and the other was kind of a weird story about the history of the earth being remembered by 1 being in a generation and being passed on from generation to generation through birth. Innocent is a historical fiction piece about Charles-Henri Sanson and the Sanson family of executioners in 18th century France. It's a dramatized account of some of the real events that happened with some of the factual stuff taken from Charles-Henri's grandson's memoir. It also helps that it is done by Shinichi Sakamoto, who did the excellent Kokou No Hito, which is just as beautifully drawn and also based on true events(well, based on a retelling of true events kinda similar to Vagabond) Aside from those 3, Goshiki no Fune is a weird little story about traveling freak show performers in the early-mid 20th century Japan. It is an award winning work, but I rated it as a little above average. I think some of it could have been lost in translation or even possibly mistranslated all together. Giganto Makhia is the first new work by the Berserk guy in like 24 years or something. The art is freaking awesome but at a meer 220 pages the story didn't get everything done that I felt it could have. I definitely still had some questions by the end, but would love if the guy picked it up again at some point in the future with a second story or a prequel or something. Virgin na Kankei was borderline H ecchi, somewhat harem-ish stuff. It is what it is. The one shot was okay. JoJo has been kinda average but I know a lot of people feel the story gets better later on in the series with the best arcs being considered part 4 and part 7. Not sure if I'm gonna stick to the series after part 2 because it's kinda been a slow read and I heard that Starlight Crusaders isn't all that well received. |

I'm not even halfway through the challenge but I had bad and good picks so far. I tried to read more Josei and Shoujo titles than usual which wasn't actually a bad thing. Decent/Cute Stories Cousin. Not to say that Cousin didn't had flaws, the fact that I like Ikuemi's storytelling and art did help a lot but it actually had a very realistic feeling. I like how her characters aren't completely likable. I believe that it should have 2-3 chapters more but it was ok, it did pass the message it wanted to pass. I also considered it one of my favourites from her works. Cat Street. Another shoujo. I read it because it was high on the ranks and I got curious. Though the setting was a bit unrealistic, the drama was at normal levers, not non-existent but not exaggerated either, and I did like the characters. Not a title I'd recommend to anyone but decent overall. Tenohira Size. I have a weakness towards stories involving kids but Tenohira Size. so I can be a bit biased towards them but Tenohira was pretty good. It was such a pity it only had one volume, when I finished it I thought that I'd really like to get to know the characters a bit more. A disappointed by Akumetsu. Actually I picked up the title with a lot of expectations since everyone in Greek community praised it and most of them had rated with 8 and above and it turned out it wasn't my cup of tea really. Akumetsu was kind of scary in one way. It involves a lot of things about politics and when you do recognize a lot of things which are happening in your country right now in a work about a vigilante who murders politicians brutally it does leave a bad taste, especially when you believe that violence in not a solution. I did like that they final message was not a happy one, it was it did a thought-provoking work and I could not bring myself to drop the series but the over the top action and setting, the exaggerated gore scenes and a lot many things I just could not agree with didn't let me to take this title seriously. It did have a great art and the main character was ok by I just could not like it as a whole. I rated 7/10 trying to be objective. Sayonara Sorcier. Now for an award-winning work and also a title that was recommended a lot I was expecting something more. I did like its premise, and it was interesting how they wrapped up thing but it was too short, it kinda felt like the characters didn't have enough space to breath so I just could not care enough for them. Not to say it was bad, but it could be a lot better. Beniiro Hero. The first title I read for the challenge... I think it's actually the longest I've read so far too. For a sports manga it didn't focused that much on sports as I'd like too plus even when it focused on that the art was a bit messy. Other than that the cast was decent, it was a bit melodramatic at times but I read it with ease. Not something I'd recommend as a sports manga though. Mizutama Puzzle. Not a completely waste of time but nothing special here, I think I liked the art more than the story. Orange. Now Orange is a special case, maybe I shouldn't put it in this category, actually I enjoyed it a lot and it was a decent story but I'd lie if I said that I wasn't a bit disappointed. It did have a lot of good parts and if there was not the time-travel I'd really considered it an extremely good shoujo because it touched a lot of things about depression but and regret but whenever they mentioned the "I got a message from the future" "Ah, parallel worlds!" thing I always thought that the mangaka took the easy way out and it felt a bit silly. Generally it was much better than your average shoujo and I did like the main characters and their friends (especially their friends) a lot. Definitely looking forward to the anime though, I really wish for a good adaptation. Average Ningen Deshita. I found this one on my ptr list looking for titles that have been there for a very long time. I could not even remember when I added it but I decided to read anyway. It's a story about a boy who had his soul transferred to a hamster while his real body underwent surgery and the relationship he developed with the classmate who took care of him. The setting was pretty weird but the story was cute enough. Nothing special though, just a nice way to pass the time. Wth Actually this one » Read a manga with a score of or below 7.0 in MyAnimeList is turning to be one of my favourite items, surprisingly. No matter how much I try to escape from something bad by picking up short works I end up choosing really ridiculous things. Bokura no Pink. Yeah I know, what did I expect with a title like that? But this was so bad, so extremely bad that I, at some point, started to think that it was a parody... but it wasn't. To give it some credit it managed to include almost every single bad shoujo clice within 3 chapters... Nice surprises Eensy-Weensy Monster. This was also one of the titles I picked up from my ptr list. If I should be objective I'd have to admit that it was an average work but I did enjoyed it a lot to my surprise. The story went bad and forth from the girl's to the boy's POV and it kind of destructed the boring prince type which usually can't tell why the protagonist like him and that's why it felt a bit refreshing. Not the masterpiece you are looking for but pretty enjoyable. Ototo no Otto. So I was really surprised when I run into this one. I had no idea what it was about, I just show the picture on batoto when a new chapter came out and I just started reading it without thing much about it. What I got was a really refreshing piece of work. It's about a man who, after his brother's death, gets a visit but his estranged brother's husband. It depicts the prejudice the LGTBQ community has to deal with naturally and how the protagonists tries to come in terms with who his brother really was and accept his brother-in-law as a person. No regrets about picking an ongoing title. Best so far Koe no Katachi . I was familiar with this title through the one shot so I pretty much knew what to expect. I'm so glad I decided to read it after it finished. I read it non-stop, it had been a long time since I stayed up late at night reading manga on Crunchy. It had a good deal of drama, but somehow it felt so natural at the same time and it touched so many things. I liked how much the protagonist matured through the series and that it didn't focused that much on romance while it had so many chances to do so. Definitely buying this when I'll have the chance. Ashita no Ou-sama. This one was recommended to me by tsuyokunaru but I read it for the "Read a manga by an author/artist you don't know". Such an underrated title, I read 6 volumes in one go and then finished the rest, it had such a great pace I didn't know when to stop. I liked how the protagonists dealt with every situation, there was little to no drama and the whole story felt planned from start to finish with a clear goal in mind. I'd gladly read 2-3 more volumes but I appreciate the fact that the story didn't drag. |

My best pick so far is Piano no Mori. I didn't expect it to be so good... at all! I like this kind of slow paced manga, and listening to the pieces the characters play while reading makes the whole experience incredibly better. I even cried a couple of times, the slow pace and the detailed representation of everyone's emotions and feelings made me care about the characters more than I though. The only think I thought was a bit strange was the relationship between the MC and his girlfriend, but I didn't really care about it since it's not the main focus of the series. I also really liked Fukigen na Mononokean! But this is a simple matter fo taste, it's mainly episodic and all the questions raised still have to be answered. I just really like the characters, and recently I'm into these "demon exorcising" manga. I'm liking also Bungou Stray Dogs (even if I think it's getting a bit confusing), Takane to Hana (nice twist for a shoujo manga), and Amaama to Inazuma (it's just so cute xD and I'd like to try some of the recipes written by the author); Lovely Complex was a nice read too, but I still remembered most of the story even if I watched the anime 7-8 years ago. The biggets disappointments would be Tasogare Otome x Amnesia and Mars. I didn't like Amnesia's characters at all, especially the MC which I found way too plain and uninteresting. This was the biggest problem, since if I don't care about a manga's characters I get immensely bored and try to quickly get rid of it, and this is exaclty what happened with this series. About Mars... I started it thinking I was reading a masterpiece, but I don't think it deserves to be called so. The story was waaay too overdramatic, with the result that it got ridiculous. The girl started to tick me off very quickly, and the crazy guy that tries to get in the way of the main couple ended up being simply absurd. Among the titles the people before me mentioned, I've already planned to read Bokura no Hentai, Innocent (waiting to buy the last volume next month to start reading), Ashita no Ousama (not sure what to expect, I'll see) and Sayonara Sorcier (just bought the volumes and I want to read it for a bonus challenge). I'll start Bokura no Hentai as soon as possible, I was waiting for Hachimitsu to release the last chapter xD Really looking forward to it! |
