Well it looks like we're on this side of Chobits again, good episode, good character development for a character that is rarely on screen. And it tells more about the relationship of Yumi and Ueda.

If the girly kept losing her memory how would she know getting hit by a car is dangerous? Or do some already come with basic knowledge?

I wouldn't think of it as some kind of miraculous shit because of the Three Laws of Robotics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Laws_of_Robotics

So I'm sure CLAMP saw to it that they had this researched because this has been around long enough. Maybe the rules were installed somewhere else other than the main hard drive itself, since these are THE RULES for their existence.

If that were true, then Ueda's at a loss, and his persocom is just an ordinary computer (which it always was, which makes his story even more tragic).

Yeah, I think it makes sense that these Persocoms are preprogrammed with actions that keep humans safe.

Actually there are 4 laws of robotics. Just type "about:robots" in the url bar (works at least in Firefox). :P

There's no way to look at Ueda's story as anything else than utterly pathetic. I get that it's essentially the same with Chii and Hideki, but at least Hideki isn't spouting nonsense about "love at first sight" in regards to machines. I just can't take it seriously.

I wonder if a Persocom could pass the Turing test? That'd be really weird and awesome.

This was a really good episode and very emotional.

And overall, all the "People falling in love with Persocom" theme is really interesting.

Wait, how is it that no one seems strange that possibly Ueda and Yumi Omura have a past ..
He is 39 years old and she is 17!

Ueda's story is a good thing for Hideki to ponder, what does it mean to him in the long run, I wonder?

And the feels train arrived. Very sad, but the good times with his persocom are precious memories for Ueda. Beautiful.

Really powerful backstory, so much feels... until I realized that Ueda was going out with a 17 years old girl while he's 39, this guy is a p*do I don't care anymore of him

Chobits' focus on the potentially complicated relationships between persocom and human is realistic, but a bit sad, because of how it's ultimately not that complicated. These are androids that are functionally and mentally identical (at least) to humans, and all of them have been selfless throughout the anime, yet there's a persistent narrative about them being "not human" as if it's a negative trait. It reminds me that so many people in reality become irrational and hostile at the idea of intelligent robots, and fish for excuses to mistreat/abuse these hypothetical beings, like the mere notion of their existence brings out their most immoral desires.

Anyway, Ueda's backstory is very melancholy. Picking up a forgotten persocom like that and trying to give her a chance at life, only for her to suffer hardware failure and memory loss. I'm thinking that  persocoms must have inbuilt programming that makes them protect their "master", or even just nearby humans in dangerous situations.

Its episodes like this show that this show could have been a good exploration of human-robot relationships if it wasnt 90% filler.

Damn, really unexpected for Ueda to have the teary-eyed past, I thought he was just the background chef, great episode.

Everyone's going through the ringer. Chii, Hideki, Yumi and now even the nice bakery shop owner Hiroyasu Ueda! Clamp is really doing a good job of exploring both sides of falling in love with a robot.
