No, they're not.

I don't know why manhwa and manhua are even added onto this site.

Japanese animation is on an elite level compared to those other scrubs. Only Japanese animation deserve the honor of being called anime.

I think they can be made out of Japan but in my opinion as long as they are licensed in Japan then they count and look like anime. Same as long a manga is published in Japan and it's clearly a manga, it counts. But that's just my view.

I think "anime" is how the Japanese would refer to as animation, it's a Japanese's way of pronouncing it. I would say that anime is exclusive for Japanimation. If it's a Chinese anime, I would just refer it as Chinese animation, and the same goes for every other anime made by different country.

If you are in Japan then if it's animated then it's anime as that's the word they use to refer to all animation irrespective of the country of origin.

Outside of Japan, anime is a term for animation created in Japan. If a piece of animation is styled to look like Japanese animation or borrows it's conventions then I would be inclined to call it anime preceded by its country of origin, like "Korean Anime".

If the Japanese calls The Lion King 'anime', that leaves room for me to loosely use the word 'anime'.

What's romanji?

Writing japanese words with latin script. As opposed to kanji (letters of chinese origin used in japanese writing a lot), kana (japanese letters) and kiriji (writing japanese words with cyrillic script).

Latin script is the one english uses, and cyrillic script is the one russian uses.

Anime is only from Japanese animation studios.

However, sometimes a Japanese animation studio will work on animation from other countries.

One example is Chinese Ghost Story. It was done by Triangle who also make Serial Experiments Lain and Niea7 - but it's a Chinese cartoon.

I consider it an anime still though since the animation is made in Japan.

But other stuff that has no one from Japan involved in it's production and is just similar, with just an anime look (like for example Avatar The Last Air Bender) is just a cartoon, not an anime.
