It's just that she'd rather not do this, as she loses all reason and starts attacking everyone around. |

Servants are heroic spirits, heroes of great fame. My first question is do heroes of a choice to enter the "throne of heroes" or the "servant pool"? If I recall correctly, heroes give their soul to the world/universe. My second question is why do they give their soul? Is it for a chance to compete for the holy grail? |

No, they don't, afaik. I don't think anything's been said about having a choice. The ToH collects heroes from all of time and space. I don't see them having a choice. If I recall correctly, heroes give their soul to the world/universe. My second question is why do they give their soul? Is it for a chance to compete for the holy grail? They don't give their soul in the way you think. They still go to the throne of heroes, but they've made a contract with Alaya/[the]World to become a Counter Guardian after death in return for a favour(power or, in Saber's case, allowing to become a pseudo-HS and entering the HGW A Counter Guardian basically, in essence, keeps humanity from dying out; cleaning up/helping to clean up the mess humans make, like wars. For example When you saw Archer killing people in the desert in a flashback. Alaya is the will of humanity. (In case you don't already know that/so you get the context of what I'm saying) |

Throne of Heroes collects one version of each "noteworthy" historical figure and "saves" the data inside it. Heroic Spirits are like phenomenons tied to their legends and locations as their "saviors" in a way. A Servant is a "diminished to fit" version of a COPY of a heroic spirit. The ones capable of being in grail wars usually have a desire they wish to be fulfilled(which makes them eligible). Counter Guardian is the one who makes a contract with the world, the collective unconsciousness of humanity known as ALAYA. Its purpose is to prevent human extinction. Its like a guided missile. When something threatens human survival on global scale, a counter guardian is sent and everything is eradicated there, no matter guilty or not - Counter Guardians essentially kill everything in vicinity and are granted horrible amount of power by ALAYA for that job. They do not go around shooting ISIS terrorists in face like in that flashback. They come and then after they are done you have a new grand canyon or something in place of that location/nation/city Being a CG is a choice. It requires you to make a contract in exchange for a wish you want the world to fulfill for you now Heroic Spirit is not a choice. Unless you have a "predestined" afterlife(Ex: Saber), you become one if you are noteworthy enough. |

Right now in the point of series, she is alive in the moment near her death in her legend(when bedivere is carrying the sword to the lake) and her consciousness travels into grail wars where she can obtain the grail(her wish). If she obtains the grail, then the contract with the world is formed and she would become a counter guardian. If she abandons her goal and accepts her death(like she does in FSN) she dies a natural death in the past and goes to avalon. |

Hi, I have a question about whether or not there's romance in UBW. I'm sure this has been asked a lot already, but I'm unable to find this. It makes things a lot more difficult to find since the names are similar and there's the visual novel, then there's the TV and movie productions. From what I could find out, there's romance in Fate/Stay Night, but none in Fate/Zero. But what about Unlimited Bladeworks (TV) and possibly the movie? Thanks! BTW: is there a feature I missed that allows to search inside a thread? (it's a bit of a nightmare to go through 3000+ postings in a q/a thread) |

Initially I planned to read the whole thread but I gave up at page 14. Can someone tell me answers to the following questions? Note: pls don't suggest playing the novel, sadly I'm not having the time nowadays to get into novels like I used to. Question 1: A few weeks ago I finished Fate/Zero, was sexy. Right now I finished Unlimited Blade Works (TV) - not gonna touch the movie nu-uh. Basically I hoped this adapts the UBW route from the novel, but I read some based MAL threads and seems like it didn't, because it just merged all 3 routes for some reason. Can someone explain to me what exactly got merged and if there's a major difference between the normal UBW novel story and the anime story? Question 2: I plan to watch the (apparently) terrible DEEN adaptation just so I can get to know the FATE route, but I have no idea if DEEN actually adapted it at all and didn't pull some stupid move with the story. Did DEEN adapt the FATE route or did they pull some original crap as well skipping on the actual route story? Question 3: I know it goes: ZERO -> FATE | UBW | HF (not released) -> HOLLOW ATARAXIA (not even planned) -> ? Is there anything after HA story-wise, or any side prequels/sequels I can get into? I'm not talking about the 150% fake loli Illyasviel anime, planning to watch it either way for... reasons. But is there anything else apart from those? I see a lot of novel readers use short acronyms in threads and I have no idea what exactly those are. I'd greatly appreciate any answers! <3 |

Did DEEN adapt the FATE route or did they pull some original crap as well skipping on the actual route story? Unlimited Blade Works (2014) (TV) by ufotable actually adapts the UBW route as faithfully as possible. Fate/stay night (2006) by DEEN adapts the Fate route but is the one that tries to merge elements from the other routes without any regard to context or coherence so it comes off as a complete mess and aside from episodes 14 and 24, which should be watched after reading the Fate route to avoid spoiling, there isn't any reason to check it out. The UBW movie (2010) by DEEN is a glorified AMV, so you shouldn't waste your time with it. TheBlackAbyss said: Question 3: I know it goes: ZERO -> FATE | UBW | HF (not released) -> HOLLOW ATARAXIA (not even planned) -> ? But is there anything else apart from those? I see a lot of novel readers use short acronyms in threads and I have no idea what exactly those are. Actually it goes: FATE | UBW | HF -> HOLLOW ATARAXIA -> ZERO Those three works are the main materials for THIS story. The universe of Fate is a part of a bigger universe called the Nasuverse which includes other Fate stories [Fate/Apocrypha (Light Novel) - Fate/EXTRA (RPG game written by the author) - and more untranslated novels and games], and other stories like [Kara no Kyoukai (Excellent anime movie series by ufotable) - Tsukihime (A masterpiece of a visual novel)]. Concepts like Counter Guardians and Origin (from F/SN) and Dead Apostles (from F/Z) are explored much much more in KnK and Tsukihime. As for the story of Emiya Kiritsugu and Emiya Shirou, then those three (F/SN - F/HA - F/Z) are all you need to get the complete story. If you became a fan and want to see these characters involved in other stories then you have Fate/Unlimited Codes (a fighting game with short stories for each character in F/SN) and Fate/EXTRA (explores F/SN Archer even more). If Fate anime is all you care about, then UBW and F/Z are all that's available at this time. Hope that answered your questions :) |

If you really don't want to read the VN, I guess the 2006 anime should help in understanding the core of the route so watch, just take mind that some characters are butchered here and there and they try to mix the routes at a certain point Soundtrack is amazing though |

Woah, you guys are lovely, thanks for the explanations <3 Guess I'll take a week off from work and just grind the visual novels out someday. Didn't know the current anime line-up of fate is such a mess, a shame they aren't adapting all routes separately. Especially now I'm kinda afraid of Heaven's Feel, apparently it's the longest route and they want to put it into a normal length movie lol. |

If your time is really limited and you can get around one and only one thing, then i can't recommend finishing the F/SN VN at some point enough. It's definitely worth the time IMO. I'd take the rumors about the single HF movie with a huge grain of salt. ufotable never seemed to object to long adaptations even when their success and profitability were questionable at the time (Kara no Kyoukai), so a single HF movie just doesn't make a ton of sense knowing them and especially when more movies just means more money. |

Any Fate project will guarantee higher profitability, even when it undersells, compared to other projects ufo may pick up, so a movie series HF is just a gold mine that will keep on giving as long as they allow it to. |

Considering how over-produced ufoubw was we have NO IDEA how much of profit did the release make. And with current situation with Ufo where they can't even finish a single series without problems, it is not surprising that they would want to shy away from multiple-movie projects. Not to mention that the reception of UBW was lukewarm for COur 1 and "What are they doing?" for cour 2 in japan. While in the west UFOUBW gave exposure to FSN as some sort of otaku-pander-y action flick. Please don't pretend that the tone they had about HF has not changed in last year. Having multiple movies is a VERY optimistic outlook right now. AT best we will get one or two movies and no earlier than 2017-2018(if ever with Tsukihime vn remake coming out in those years). Financially Ufo would be more interested in actually TRYING to complete god-eater first and then maybe try to grab either mahoyo or tsukihime adaptations. The fact that there has been absolutely NO progress with HF movies so far is extremely telling. |

We don't know how much, but we really don't need to. This is a ufotable anime with Fate's name on it. It made profit and lots of it. And you aren't seriously saying that ufo is thinking: "Welp, our experimental Bandai-pre-paid commercial is having some production problems. LET'S CUT OUR BIGGEST CASH COW SHORT AND MAKE EVEN LESS MONEY.", are you? I'm gonna need to see multiple Japanese sources for that. ufoUBW won a lot of Newtype awards, and, regardless of what these awards mean by themselves, we're damn sure it's pretty accurate at gauging reaction and interest. No, their tone about HF hasn't changed because they literally haven't talked about it in almost two years now. I'm not gonna jump on any supposed piece of information i can't even hear well. Having multiple movies is a REALISTIC outlook. Corporations don't burn their biggest franchises to the ground after one less profitable installment. HF is a project we won't see or hear about before 2016 Q3, most likely, so any current mishaps (God Eater) or even possible future ones (Tales of) shouldn't affect it. And they sure as hell won't throw away the TM franchise with the biggest mainstream appeal for Tsukihime or Mahoyo. CookingPriest said: The fact that there has been absolutely NO progress with HF movies so far is extremely telling. Not really. ufo's hands are extremely full at the moment and will continue to be for a while. Movies take a LOT of time to get them done anyway. We won't hear an announcement before a good chunk of the first movie has already been animated like 90% of other anime movies. Just be hopeful HF doesn't get the Kizumonogatari treatment. |

You keep repeating the same indoctrination statements without new arguments - "biggest mainstream appeal" , "fate sells", "ufo won't abandon" , "multiple movies is realistic" Proof please? Because so far all I see is Ufotable getting a far more conservative when speaking about TM adaptations and using the cashmoney from ufoubw sales on projects like godeater and trying to focus on new things that do not involve TM. I would not be surprised if in few years the way Nasu talks about UfoUBW changes 180 degrees |

Are we really going to argue Fate's popularity and profitability? I don't really know what to tell you if you can't see how much Fate is one of the biggest dogs in the industry now, and THE biggest when it comes to TM and ufo. And about ufo's decisions regarding HF, it's basic business. And proof for what? It's an educated speculation based on past decisions and the current landscape. Fate is way bigger than Tsukihime and Mahoyo - Fact Fate has been very lucrative for TM and ufo more than any other franchise they have their hands in - Fact ufo showed that they are willing to do long projects with much higher risk even when they were a smaller company - Fact From the above FACTS, it's more than sensible to assume that HF will have multiple movies with even higher budget than past projects. CookingPriest said: Because so far all I see is Ufotable getting a far more conservative when speaking about TM adaptations and focusing on other projects I'm gonna go out on a limp here and say that you're seeing what you wanna see. So, the BDs became the highest selling BDs this weak, selling 33,000 units. Source: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2015/10/13-1/fatestay-night-unlimited-blade-works-box-set-2-becomes-top-selling-blu-ray-of-the-week Now, according to Oricon, the 2015 mid-year ranking has the first cour ranked second by June 1st at 37,829 units sold. Source: http://www.someanithing.com/3405 This all brings the total units sold to a little more than 70K units so far. Fate/Zero 1st cour sold ~43k and second cour sold ~38k (both first week numbers), bringing the total to ~81k units. Also, keep in mind that ufoUBW's box set is more expensive than F/Z's, so the total profit should be very close between the two. The highest selling BD in the last four seasons was Symphogear (15k units) BTW, so, yeah... Fate is gonna Fate, and it's on a league of its own. |

The highest selling BD in the last four seasons was Symphogear (15k units) BTW, so, yeah... Fate is gonna Fate, and it's on a league of its own. Except again, different budget. The numbers look nice but they look way below expectations ufo had and the budget they poured into it. The amount of otaku pandering added into the show is very telling on that Ufo was desperate to make it sell as much as possible. |

Also some well-animated fights and a good digital in-house team don't cost much. I can tell you several show that looks better and is animated better and sold less and still considered successful like Hibike. |

At this point that has less of a chance of being written than the Mahoyo trilogy being completed. |

Mhmmmm I see! Well, I have hopes for HF. So long as they keep to the tone of those new PS Vita vids they made ages ago. The HF vid was sooooooooo good. By the way I was thinking, how did Archer kill Berserker so many times in fate? We didn't see the fight but I still don't get it. Archer was injured and killed berserker 7(?) times in combat whilst having his core damaged. Whilst Saber couldn't kill Berserker once in a 1v1. |

I'm sure Saber would've beaten him if she was able to shoot six, not seven BTW, different rank-A noble phantasms at him. Archer being able to shave those lives off makes perfect sense. Saber should be able to kill him with her NP once maybe twice if she was at full mana, but that's about it. |

I assume Archer managed to kill Herakles in direct combat for some of those kills, but Saber didn't manage to kill Herakles ONCE in her 1v1 based on purely fighting. I just really want for Nasu to finally show the fight between Archer and Herakles :( |

SaintEmiya said: nah it should be left open as vague foreshadowing for UBW. let you're imagination run wild. remember saber's big problem here is that she doesnt have tricks.astroprogs said: SaintEmiya said: Mhmmmm I see!
