Game Setup
The players will be divided into 3 groups:
- Attorneys (5 players)
- Prosecutors (5 players)
- Side characters (6 players)
The attorneys and the prosecutors will each be invited to their own secret club. The Attorneys must defend their client as best as possible, while the prosecutors must try to get a guilty verdict.
The game will consist of 2 phases: Investigation phases and Trial phases. Each phase last 24 hours.
At the end of each Trial phase, I will be the judge and declare a verdict if either the attorneys or the prosecutors have provided solid evidence against either a client or a different Side Character, that the opposing team could not counter. If not, the game will proceed to another Investigation phase.
Side Characters
I have come up with a murder crime and chosen 1 of the Side Characters to be the culprit who did it. He/she is the only player who knows what actually happened. The Side Characters all have some relation to the crime.
1 of the Side Characters will be the client, who has been accused of the murder. The client may or may not be the culprit. When you receive your role as a Side Character, you will also receive other information such as what you were doing when the murder occurred and whether you have seen anything.
Trial phases
The game will begin with a Trial phase, but the chances of reaching a verdict by the end of the very first Trial phase is very slim.
During the Trial phase, the prosecutors will be asked to make their opening statement in which they should explain to me, the judge, why the accused should be convicted of murder. The attorneys may then make an objection, in which they should explain why the accused should NOT be convicted of murder. The Side Characters may join the discussion if they want.
Testimony
The attorneys and prosecutors may ask the Side Characters for their testimony. They can then make objections to their testimony or they can use it to support their case. If the Side Characters refuse to give their testimony, then this can also be used to support their case.
Evidence
Evidence, such as the murder weapon or fingerprints, can either be found during Investigation phases or can be received from the Side Characters. Evidence may not be forged, meaning you cannot create it yourself. However, you may give it to other players just like all other information. Attorneys and Prosecutors may present Evidence during the Trial phase to support their case. Example of Evidence:
Investigation phases
When the investigation phase begins a new location will be presented to everyone. During this phase, all attorneys and all prosecutors may use 1 of the following actions:
- Search/Inspect [X] (fx. Corpse or Inside a box)
- Use fingerprint powder on [X] (fx. Pistol or Cup)
- Spray luminol on [X] (fx. Floor or Clothes)
As there are 5 attorneys and 5 prosecutors, each team can use 5 actions. These actions might result in new evidence. I will try to keep the game balanced. This phase can also be used to question the Side Characters before the trial. External communication such as PM’s and Skype is encouraged.
