It felt like this episode had a lot of similarities to Princess Mononoke. The mountain's guardian being similar to the spirit of the forest. Seeing the new guardian at the end sit at the summit was a great visual too.

holy shit, things went from 0-100 quick. Good to see other Mushi-shi, was starting to think Ginko was the only one about xD
too bad about the old man, sadly you can't save everyone i guess and he seemed pretty determined in what he was doing.
but HOT DAMN that ending. The scene with Ginko sitting in the open field staring at this fucking terrifying massive snake curled up on a mountain looks like something straight out of some Dark Souls or Monster Hunter game. Something about the colour of the skies to the field and the change of colours of the mountains just compliment each other so well, i love it

Another amazing episode.

Btw why does every character in every episode (other than Ginko) look the same?

The episodes just keep getting amazing as they progress.

The Kuchinawa chilling on top of the mountain was great, loved the tragic story of Mujika.

Maybe.. maybe, if Mujika didn't come to that village, he won't meet Saku and his life wouldn't be that sad. Bear the consequences of Saku's reckless actions and sacrifice himself so that no one else becomes the guardian of the mountain.

But maybe it was all fate. After all he also said that he did want to live in the village and seemed to be interested in Saku as well. Although I'm sure.. he certainly didn't think that Saku would do it. Sad. Sad..

The kuchinawa.. scary but pretty cool. Hahah.

Man, this episode were really good even by this episode’s standard. If this isn’t even the mid-season, I can’t wait for the end of the the first season let alone the second. Very good

The stories of Mushi-shi aren't particularly complex, but they're very imaginative, but in a subdued sort of way. They're quiet, but they vary in scale, magnitude, and even brutality. There aren't any particular morals or lessons learned from each episode, as it's made explicit that most of these incidents occur without any fault or blame. Circumstances lead to people and mushi acting as they do, and if tragedies occur along the way, it becomes an exercise of self-restraint and understanding of mushi and the world at large. If there was anything to be learned, I suppose it would be co-existence with nature, as well as the awareness of what happens when humans mess with powers they aren't familiar with.

Major Princess Mononoke vibes here. Ginko should have an apprentice.

A GREAT episode. We meet another Mushishi, Mujika, who has more than just profession in common with Ginko. We discover during the episode that Ginko is a wanderer because he cannot stay in one place for a long time, as he finds it easy to attract Mushis. This fact made the protagonist sharpen his extermination skills on Mushis.

Mujika says that he envies Ginko, since he is constantly in the Mountain, but Ginko says that he is the one who envies him. Mujika is the God of that mountain and is trapped there, as the death of the former God of the mountain was his fault. We discovered that in the past he had an easy time attracting Mushis, just like Ginko, so he couldn't stay and marry a resident of the mountain's surroundings, unless he killed the Mountain God and took his place, thus being able to drive away the Mushi. Knowing this, the girl went there and killed God of the mountain.

It's an episode with many surprises, especially Ginko's story and how it connects with Mujika's. The latter is now dead to make room for Kuchinawa, the new Mushi God of the Mountain.

The Master-eating Mushi. R.I.P Mujika. He was an interesting old dude.

Talking about a yandere wife.

That giant snake at the end was very cool.
