| As a fujoshi, this first episode exceeded my expectations. I mean, I was more than ready for the fanservice, but I didn't think it would be this overt. I for one am pretty happy with how things turned out, and my nasty, politically-incorrect side is amused that this show is making other people uncomfortable. Having said that, even I'm going to get bored if there isn't at least some semblance of a plot in there somewhere down the line, so I do hope the second episode will deliver the goods. In conclusion: it's no Kurobasu but hey, so far so good. |

| So... I watched it... and I have to say... I think I'll die of a heart attack and nose bleeds before the show stops airing. These guys are so HOT! Makoto is my bishie. xD Anyways... I'm hooked but after seeing the first episode, I'm still a bit iffy on the yaoi/not yaoi topic... The way they talk and behave around each other was a bit... eh, but I'm considering to ignore it because I seen Kimi to Boku and the way they behaved was a bit similar to them and it was just a bromance show, so I'm okay with that. Funny moments.... Haruka... him and his love for Pool-sama... xD Makoto... <3 He's like... the mommy of the group, it will seem. xD and Nagisa... he's the hyper-cute one. I enjoy him... the skinny dipping... xD And Rin... he seems mean, but I think as keep watching it, he'll be nicer. My friend despises him, but eh... I just hope we seem more girls in the show so that way it can bit a more even and have a bit of romance for them, unless they decide to make this like K-on and exclude romance. |

| Holy arguments... 0.0 I'm not sure if I should've gotten involved in this discussion or not, but I just want to put my opinion out there. I actually enjoyed the first episode a lot. The animation was beautiful, the cast was gorgeous, and I never lost interest once throughout the entire episode. (Not to mention, the ED is the only ED I've seen so far that I won't skip). Sure the characters are a bit cliche, but I think I can live with that. And the plot isn't the most original or deep, but I found it cute the way it was. I can understand why fans of KyoAni may be upset over this anime, but many have to understand that companies have to test new waters in order to grow and better themselves. Perhaps this will fall flat on it's face, but people grow sick of the same things over and over again. Personally, I think it is a good thing that KyoAni is attempting to expand its fanbase. To those who are constantly commenting on these forums about how "gay" this anime is: Yes, there are BL undertones in this anime. Yes, there is fanservice in this anime. Yes, the anime is trying to appeal more to a female audience. I understand that you don't enjoy it, but please get over yourselves. There are plenty of other people here that actually do like this anime and you are flooding these forums just for the sake of hating on it. What are you trying to prove? |

| Ohman the mod edit on the first post is glorious. This anime's existence just asks for trolling. This anime isn't that bad at all, actually. Fanservice is just about in every anime, so the "manservice" is almost a novelty. I'm so used to ignoring boobs and scantily-clad girls. Free! is just the reverse of that. Since girls of any sexual orientation can watch anime, guys should have no problems being subjected to this, right~? All the 'I'm a straight guy and am still watching this' is silly. How many straight girls watch _____? :P That said, since it's just a reverse of the already over-rampant fanservice, it annoys me no more here than it has in the past. I was hoping it would be hilariously unnecessary. :< Instead, it's just anime, lul. I ended up barely noticing. I also found Mako (who is not worthy of the Mass Effect reference) and the blond one (Nagisa, right?) to be nearly bubble-headed lolitas. o_o Females are constantly being misrepresented in anime as such, so seeing their male equivalent is...a novelty? I'm enjoying thiis anime for all the wrong reasons...The reversal of everything is interesting but not excessively laughable. It's unexpected, but I think I'll stick with it. Also - Haru's dance in the ED totally destroyed his role as the tsuntsun. >_> Even though he has a sort of obsession with Rin (I hope it's just a weird translation or something because it did come across as weird), I guess I'll pick him to be my favorite. Even if always he wears swimming trunks under his clothes and only thinks about water, if he continues to diss the two kawaii-desu lolitas, he's all right in my book. EDIT: Why did I not mention the hairflip? I am female and keep my bangs stylishly long to play with, but nothing like Haru! And you just know he keeps it that long for the sole purpose of flipping it with all the pool water flying off in a shower of bishonen glitter. What even? | I just watched episode 1 of Free! and I thought it was a great first episode. I'd been looking forward to this since the announcement but I began to have doubts that it would be any good. I had concerns it would just be in your face fanservice but now my doubts are gone. Never once did I look down and see how many minutes were left; it only felt like I'd been watching for a minute when the ED started playing. I'm confident that Free! could turn out to be a good or even great anime if every episode after this one is at the same level or higher. I really like the cast, the animation and the music so far and it looks like there will be a story so I will definitely be watching it all unless it goes drastically downhill in the next few episodes. It might even become my favourite of this season! At the moment I can't see any reason why people should completely hate Free! and be overly rude about it. :-) |

| Wow, based on all of the homophobia and that silly "Is KyoAni finished?" thread, I was expecting an episode full of guys doing things simply to show off their muscles and please the ladies. But there was none of that! Sure, before you enter the pool, you have to take off your shirt and pants and whatnot, so why not make it look as good as possible when they do it? Other than that and I guess the bath/apron scene (both of which lasted mere seconds), there was nothing here to fuss about! Seriously, people are only watching this just to bitch about nonexistent things. As a proud moefag and kyoanifag (who can still trump anyone in a discussion, as I actually know how to argue and defend shows such as Lucky Star and K-On with actual facts as opposed to "moe? it's auTomaticAlly sh1t"), I think this series will turn out to be great. Hopefully the homophobes/haters/"losers with nothing better to do with their lives other than bitch about one of the thousands of anime out there" will shoo and begone for the rest of the series. |
